Freezer is heating up
By Cliff Smith
3.14.2010

Nicholas Grigsby is hungry. Nowadays his appetite is geared toward getting recognition as one of the premier football prospects in the state of Ohio. That was not always the case though.

Grigsby?s head coach at Trotwood-Madison HS let it slip that he?s had a nickname since he was a little kid. When asked if he prefers to be called Nick or Nicholas, Coach Maurice Douglass had this to say, ?We all just call him Freezer cause that?s what his mom calls him.?

With my curiosity piqued, I had to find out more from Grigsby himself. ?My mom started calling me Freezer when I was a kid cause I was always in the fridge or freezer looking for food. I had so much energy all the time, I was always eating.? revealed Grigsby. ?I?d just run right back outside and burn it off anyway.?

Whatever his mother was feeding him all that time sure seems to have helped him develop into an outstanding football player and vital member of his high school team.

Cleveland Central Catholic WR Jeremy Whitlow has picked up his first offer from Akron.

Oak Hills LB Ben Russell has added an offer from Akron to go with an offer from Ball State.

St. Ed's OL Geoff Mogus has earned his first offer from Toledo.

West Virginia joins Cincinnati, Ball State, Ohio, Buffalo and Bowling Green in offering Centerville DE Kyle Rose. I suspect he might be the next Ohio kid to earn a Big 10 offer.

DL - Top 5 Unoffered Ohio Players

2 - Roger Williamson, DB/WR, Dayton Dunbar. This is the mystery DB I have been alluding to. I have seen a much longer video that you have not been able to access yet. He is a special talent. I think there is reason to argue he isat least the #2 receiver in the class but I would play him on defense, and he is the best in the class. I know Mark is very high on him too.
4 - Austin Traylor, Athlete, Walnut Ridge. Super athlete. If not for Williamson I would call him the best athlete in the class. He is going to make someone a great edge rusher when he fills out. I know we are loaded but I would take him.....unless there was a tackle out there looking our way.

5- Tony Davis DL, Cincinnati Wyoming. He is right there with Chase Farris. I think it more likely Davis stays at SSDE or slides to DT. He is a little more athletic and lighter than Farris who could end up at LT. There is no word on Davis grades. That is why we have not seen more talk about him. Once he is a qualifier his stock will soar and I hope we are in touch.

Newest Big 10 offer is in...and it is from Minnesota to Walnut Hills TE Benson Browne, who as I understand has only been playing football for one year. 6-6 235 with what appear to be phenomenal hands...

Fairfield LB Marquise Vann has added an offer from Ohio.

Akron has offered Akron Garfield TE Kevin Newton.

Another Big 10 offer...Jack Miller has picked up offers from Illinois and Stanford.

DE Joel Heath of Mount Healthy has been offered by NC State.

Akron has offered three in-state players...Avon Lake OT Andrew Bohan, Trotwood Madison LB Nicholas Grigsby and Zanesville DE Anthony Smith (who would have tons more offers if he had a little more size...his film is very impressive).

Rivals currently lists 54 players in Ohio with Big 10 offers (and just quickly scanning things I'm sure they're missing a couple). Only two have committed to schools other than OSU...Greg Brown to Michigan and Mike Replogle to Indiana (no surprise there).

Free - Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Young defensive tackles lead East Lansing event

Toledo (Ohio) Rogers lineman Felix Fowler was the biggest prospect in attendance. At 6-feet-6 and 360 pounds, Fowler is an intimidating physical presence. He plans to attend summer camps at Ohio State, UCLA, and Purdue.

"I am more of an aware and physical player," Fowler said. "As for a favorite school, places like Ohio State and other schools close to home."
