Nice to be #1 now but starting this coming Saturday the schedule gets a little bit difficult going Illinois and unlike that other sport it really doesn't mean much now but it does bring some very nice national attention to the :osu: program.

Ohio State is the second team to hold the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press Top 25 this season.​

The Buckeyes (18-0) moved up one spot to replace Duke, which was No. 1 in the preseason Top 25 and the first nine polls of the regular season, including six weeks as the unanimous pick of the 65-member national media panel.​

The Blue Devils' loss at Florida State on Wednesday opened the way for the Buckeyes, who are No. 1 for the third time in school history. Ohio State was No. 1 for all of 1960-61 and 1961-62, a run of 27 straight polls, and for the last three weeks of 2006-07. ​

Buckeyes back at No. 1 in Top 25

David Lighty, the Ohio State Buckeyes' sage veteran who started his career in 2006-07 as part of the acclaimed "Thad Five" recruiting class led by Greg Oden, is seeing his fifth year shape up a lot like his first.

But Lighty has been here before. As a freshman in 2007, he averaged 16.3 minutes per game as Ohio State went 35-4, finished the regular season ranked No. 1 and lost to Florida in the 2007 national championship game.
