my guess is that sully is about 6'9". ohio state's numbers are generally not inflated, so we'll know this fall what sully's actual height is. many don't stop growing until about 20 years old; therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if sully gained an inch or less since last fall.

To add to Sully's legit 6'9+ height, he has supposedly dropped his weight to close to 270lbs (played at around 285lbs last season) and he's not done trimming down yet, he wants to get closer to 255lbs. Just think if Sully did grow to 6'10" and drops to a chiseled 255lbs. He'd be quicker, have better endurance, and could probably finish above the rim better.

The scary thing about Sullinger's game is that he has so much natural size, athleticism, and coordination to go along with the best work ethic and leadership in the country. Sully=Beast

Lord have mercy on the Big Ten when Sully is old enough to grow a full beard.

Craft obviously deserves to start but I think as a team we are best suited with him coming off the bench and being the best 6th man in the country.
!
Thought that I should add on to my response that Craft will start when you posted your starting line up. You do not take a kid who played over 30 minutes a game for you last year and was your floor general and put him on the pines for a freshman. He might not be the starting PG because Scott and Craft will probably share that responsibility when they are on the floor together but there is no way that Scott and Thompson start over Scott and Craft.

I also think you are overhyping Thompson a little bit especially when you take into consideration players that have already been here for one season and he is coming in as a freshman.

I hear you, we will probably see the Craft-Scott-Buford-Thomas-Sully starting lineup but I really wouldn't be surprised at all if Thompson got the starting spot over Scott and Scott could play a similar role to what Craft played last year as the 6th man/ hustle guy. What a helluva back-court with Craft/Scott, Craft/Sibert, Scott/Sibert- that's counting Bufird as a wing and we know that he'll play some guard too.

This is such a stacked, balanced roster this season. Thad Matta's got it going on......

UPDATED 2011-2012 ROSTER.....

Guards:
Aaron Craft 6'2.5"/205 Soph.
Shannon Scott 6'3"/185 Fresh.
LenZelle Smith 6'3"/215 Soph.
Jordan Sibert 6'4"/190 Soph.

Wings:
William Buford 6'5"/205 Senior
Sam Thompson 6'7"/205 Fresh.
LaQuinton Ross 6'8"/210 Fresh.
J.D. Weatherspoon 6'7"/215 Soph.

Bigs:
Jared Sullinger 6'9"/265 Soph.
Evan Ravenal 6'8"/260 Junior (RS)
Trey McDonald 6'9"/235 Fresh.
Amir Williams 6'11"/238 Fresh.
DeShuan Thomas 6'7"/235 Soph.

It will be interesting to see how J.D. Weatherspoon (6'7"/215 Soph.) plays this season. He has an "unlimited upside" and could be the the "6th man/ hustle guy" too.

Yea, you are so right. His biggest problem is he needs to developed a jump shot or any kind of outside game. His body is an athletic SF, but his lack of pure basketball skill puts him as an under-sized PF. The good thing about Matta's system is the 5 guys in the court don't necessarily play a typical PG-SG-SF-PF-C style. Matta is just as happy having 3 or even 4 wings out there with a big if atleast 2 of the wings can ball handle well.

Typical lineup, PG, 3 wings, big

I don't see where J.D. fits in this season Script-O but I would love to see J.D. Weatherspoon and Sam Thompson out there together. SLAM

What do you think Script-O? Does J.D. make the rotation this season?

I know that we are going to be a young team this season but does anybody realize that Buford is the only player on the roster with more than one year in the program. That's nutz!

This should be a very good season. It will be the first time since Matta's been here that he's had two consecutive top10 recruiting classes and they all get to play together. He's never had a full class come back to mesh with a solid incoming class.

This will be Matta's youngest team yet, but will also no doubt be his most talented and athletic team in his tenure. It will be interesting to see if anybody can beat us. Should be another dominant season.

I hadn't visited the site in a few days, but I love all the offseason b-ball chatter. I too am as hyped for OSU basketball as I have ever been, and definitely more so right now than football. Thad Matta is building something absolutely special in Columbus, and he's doing it the right way.

You have to love the potential of this team, and that potential is to be just as good as last season with possibly an even better end result in April. However, the one thing that still scares me a little is a reliance on young/unproven/inexperienced players.

We've been spoiled with the Turners, Lightys, and Dieblers the past few years. Those were guys you knew you could count on because they had a track record. Obviously we still have a little of that with Sully, Buford, and Craft. But, there is always a bit of apprehension when you are relying so much on guys like Thomas (who we know can be incredible at times, but has he "reigned in" his shot selection?) and Sibert (who basically has just a little more than zero experience), not to mention the five incoming freshmen.

The great thing is, like many have mentioned, OSU is looking at an entirely stocked roster of eligible, scholarship players who were recruited by Matta (or have previous major DI experience - Ravenal). You have to think out of the 13 guys on the roster, Matta can come up with a rotation of at least 7 that he trusts and can depend on. It will just be interesting to see how this team adjusts and adapts to the new personnel and whether we see a change in the style of play. I know I'd love to see some more uptempo basketball, as I'm sure Matta would as well.

Can't wait to enjoy another great season of Buckeye basketball!

I really think that Matta's rotation will go 9-deep this season. He has a reputation of keeping a very short bench but if you look back at his rosters, he's used his depth when he had it ('05).

Matta had a tough stretch with unexpected one&dones (especially Conley) and transfers (Wallace, Offut, Crater). He finally has a full compliment of players at all positions. I'm 100% convinced that we'll go atleast 8-deep regularly, and I'm fairly convinced that we'll have a 9-man rotation.

What I would do if I was Matta.....(in rotation)

1) Jared Sullinger
2) William Buford
3) Aaron Craft
4) Deisel Thomas
5) Shannon Scott
6) Jordan Sibert
7) Amir Williams
8) Sam Thompson/LaQuinton Ross/Evan Ravenel
9) Sam Thompson/LaQuinton Ross/Evan Ravenel

Out of regular rotation, but still solid in mop-up duty.....

J.D. Weatherspoon
Lenzelle Smith Jr.
Trey McDonald
Sam Thompson/LaQuinton Ross/Evan Ravenel

I think 2 of those 3 at the bottom of the rotation will emerge. I like all 3 players, I just don't know yet how their games will translate to the college level. My guess, Sam Thompson will be in the rotation because of his hustle, length, and his defensive mentality on the court. Thompson is a great shot blocker and rebounder for a SG/SF.
