2011-2012 Men's Buckeye Basketball (Final Four Season)

Craft will start

Craft obviously deserves to start but I think as a team we are best suited with him coming off the bench and being the best 6th man in the country.

Much like Sully should play PF to prepare for his future because that's his natural NBA position but he will play mostly center this year because that's what's best for the team.

That's why the 2010 class is so special IMO and could turn out to be Matta's best overall class by the time they leave here because they are very unselfish, they came in to the program with chemistry, contributed immediately, and will have a 4 year impact on the program with Craft, Sibert, and Thomas.

Good time to be an OSU hoops fan!

Very good post NINJA....... Craft will start though. Have a greenie.

Thanks B.B.

I'm more excited about the start of the OSU hoops season than the football season. Don't get me wrong, I love OSU football and college football is my favorite sport but Thad Matta has something special going on here right now and I can't get enough of it.......

craft has shown to be a leader. leaders start. craft will start.

as far as what is best-suited for the team, my guess is that if you asked matta, buford, thomas, and sully if craft starting best suits the team, you would (and, in a handful of months, will) receive one unequivocal answer.

+1

Craft starts. He sends a message to play hard the entire game. I doubt the frosh get upset because they are being trained to play at the collegiate level.

Im glad im not the only one hyped for the bball season. Even before the football fiasco dropped I was geeked for these upcoming bball seasons.

I think that Sam Thompson should start at SF for us this season because he is long and athletic, and enjoys playing solid defense and blocking shots from the wing. We all know, to crack Matta's rotation, you have to put in the effort on the defensive side of the court and Thompson will.

When you think Sam Thompson, think - Evan Turner body, David Lighty's motor, William Buford's mid-range game, J.D. Weatherspoon's athleticism, and Aaron Craft's intensity on defense.
Thats pretty high praise for Thompson. I've seen two whole games and lots of highlight clips and I like him but he has some major work ahead if wants to match your description.

He has a good natural looking jumper but like most players his age it needs to be way more consistent. As far as Lighty's motor and Crafts intensity those are areas where he needs the most work. He seems to have a laid back personality on the court. He'll go for a stretch where he's playing like you described then the next five he's passing up open looks and floating around on the perimeter. If plays whistle to whistle with that killer instinct he'll get major minutes.

That said there is no way Craft doesn't start. Brings too much to the table to not be out there at tip. His handles, energy and defense alone will keep him on the court.

apparently, sully is also at least 6'10", too. at the recent nba and nike camps, he measured 6'10" both times.

That's surprising to me because he looks about 6'8". That's great news if accurate not only for OSU this season, but also for Sully's future. The NBA gets caught up in measurements too much sometimes but if he's a legit 6'9.5/6'10", he'll have no issue with that.

During a couple games last season the broadcaster stated that Sully was actually closer to 6'7" than his listed 6'9".

I'm interested in seeing if he improves his face-up game this season. If you watch his high-school highlights, he has good ball handling a solid jumper for a big man, we just didn't have a need for that last year with all of our solid wing players; really no different this year.

my guess is that sully is about 6'9". ohio state's numbers are generally not inflated, so we'll know this fall what sully's actual height is. many don't stop growing until about 20 years old; therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if sully gained an inch or less since last fall.

I was honestly more excited about the hoops season than the football season even before the violations too. I'm so amped to see this year's team. Returning Sully, Buford, Craft, and Thomas is enough alone to win the B1G before we even get in to Sibert (who I really like) and the 3 or 4 freshmen that will have a solid impact this season.

I do agree with you that I may be over-selling Sam Thompson a bit with my description/comparisons with him, but this kid possesses so much raw talent and lenghth that he has the potential to be the best player to ever play for Thad Matta if he works as hard as he possible can, and sticks around the program for 3 or 4 years.

I beleive that Sam Thompson has the potential to develop into a Rudy Gay/Andre Iguodala type player at the next level.
