2011-2012 Men's Buckeye Basketball (Final Four Season)

I sincerely hope the basketball program receives the support they deserve from the OSU faithful. If we begin making the Schott an amazing atmosphere along with the talent Matta has accumulated, the sky is the limit.
Last year the schott was pretty well filled. Other than the some of the non-conference cupcakes, it was packed. It seems like if Columbus knows the team is good people will go, and with the football team down people might be looking for their OSU competitive fix :)

We averaged 15,125 a game last year, and I think it holds about 19,000. Considering 10 of the 21 games at home were against cupcakes last year, I'd say that's pretty damn good.

No question, the attendance and support was much better last year. But I'm talking about taking that to a whole different level. Matta has been here for 8 years (?) now, and he's quite frankly transformed this basketball program into something we've never seen in the modern era.

I think this program deserves the best from the fanbase. Last year was an incredibly good start to making that happen - moving the students was something many had talked about for years, and when it finally happened I think we saw an incredible change in the atmosphere.

I'm just saying I hope it continues. People complain about the Schott, that the noise is lost and it seems too quiet at times, but I've heard it rocking before. It's never going to rival St. Johns as far as pure loudness, but if the fans are into the game, it can be pretty intimidating.

I'm splitting hairs here, but at least we are here discussing our excitement for Buckeye basketball, even during football season. That alone shows the impact Matta has had/is having!

Good post. My first bolded part can also be said about the Shoe, because at times the Shoe is way too quiet for my liking but it happens.

adding the student section in the first 5-10 rows last year was a huge boost...those seats were filled by old alumini who have paid for those seats for years, and basically got more excited about Antique Road Show then the game they were watching...now if we can fill the other 5-10 rows on the opposite side (the side where TV camera's do not capture the students) then we are on to something...a few years ago i watched Oden and Conley play YSU at Nationwide Arena...and the atmosphere was a hell of alot better, soley because of how that stadium is designed...the schott is designed for many more things then besides basketball....thats why you have to try hard to get that place loud...but it can be achieved and im glad someone is finally making steps to do that...this years team could be Oden and Conley good...im even going to go out and say we make it further in the tournament then last years team...i am also excited for basketball season considering the state of ohio state football and the browns currently...let me know when its november

You're dead on. But, this is Ohio State. We should be able to sell out EVERY home game and there should be a hell of a waiting list to get tickets. I just don't understand how we have trouble selling out games, especially when the team/program is as good as they are, even against cupcakes.

I do understand that not everybody loves OSU basketball as much as we do but dang people, show up to the games.:mummy:

By the way, I really like the idea of adding 10 rows of students on the opposite side of the court. That would be intimidating. But there's way too many things involved to just simply make that switch in seating. :osu3:

Just checked the sked and we're playing a home hoops game the night before we play football versus PoSU. Excellent. I'll get to see both.

Same here Jake. I think tickets can be purchased on November 1st. I'm betting they'll be crappy seats but I'm buying anyway.

First beer is on me!

The Schott is big but from the Shoe to the Schott tOSU has alot of fannies in the seats but from a noise making go all out the whole 60 or 40 minutes its not going to happen all the time that's just the way it is now..I don't know why... its become a little like Wrigley..ppl on their cell look at me I'm in the shoe..

Buckeyes @ OHSBCA Clinic

I had the opportunity to watch The Ohio State Men's team run through some conditioning drills yesterday at the OHSBCA's coaches clinic.

My first overall impression is that the Bucks are especially long and lean this year.

I am particularly impressed with the transformation of Sully and Deshaun Thomas. Sully looked more explosive and lean while Deshaun was sleek and much more committed to hustling at all times without Thad's "encouragement". Both have completely reworked their physiques.

Craft looked to be the vocal leader as well as the leader of each of the drills. First in line for everything. He and Scott went to war one on one. Added some muscle in the off season.

Sibert was explosive and shot the ball well.

Scott was lightning fast. He and Craft gave each other fits; each turning the other over in one on one drills. Michael Conley/Dee Brown type quicks.

Sam Thompson was explosive. Really quick off the floor. Different type of dunker than 'Spoon, but still very explosive.

McDonald and Williams were both lean and developing. Definitely not polished like Sully but also not complete projects. Skill sets were so close that I actually couldn't tell the two of them apart in drills. Still learning how hard they have to work.

Ravenal was in great shape and ahead of McDonald and Williams in offensive development. May grab some minutes this year.

Buford looked great but didn't stand out (unlike last year). Says quite a bit about the new talent.

Smith, 'Spoon, and Alex Rogers worked hard but doubt if they see many relevant minutes. 'Spoon had a sick dunk that he banged on the backboard before throwing down.

Paulus was working with the Craft and Scott. Very intense instruction.

Boals and Dickerson mostly worked with the post players. Dickerson can lay a beat down with the football pad. (esp. with McDonald and Williams)

Jent may be the best pick up (other than Sully) in the last several years. Challenged players in shooting drills, super intense, detail oriented, hard butt. Really kicked up the intensity for the whole group (this is not the first OSU team I've seen practice).

Matta was great. Challenged players to beat personal best in drills, really kept on the freshmen, was very positive without inflating egos.

Richardson ran some conditioning drills and made them redo drills that didn't meet his expectations. Deserves much more credit than he receives...

Overall the Bucks look more athletic, stronger, and quicker than last year. Looked to be a rather close knit group as well. I have very high hopes for the season. :osu:

excellent stuff there, ehumphries. really appreciate and enjoy reading your take.

i think we'll see some msu-style of conference play this year from the bucks. i expect that we'll see plenty of fast breaks and secondary breaks. whereas our offense was based on the pass and half-court sets last year, i see this year's offense as being based on the dribble and the full 94.

buford's bulking up and sully's slimming down tell me what matta has in mind: press, run, and harass.
