Last year the schott was pretty well filled. Other than the some of the non-conference cupcakes, it was packed. It seems like if Columbus knows the team is good people will go, and with the football team down people might be looking for their OSU competitive fix :)Bulls-Eye;1995718; said:I sincerely hope the basketball program receives the support they deserve from the OSU faithful. If we begin making the Schott an amazing atmosphere along with the talent Matta has accumulated, the sky is the limit.

We averaged 15,125 a game last year, and I think it holds about 19,000. Considering 10 of the 21 games at home were against cupcakes last year, I'd say that's pretty damn good.

Matta has been here for 8 years (?) now, and he's quite frankly transformed this basketball program into something we've never seen in the modern era.
I think this program deserves the best from the fanbase. Last year was an incredibly good start to making that happen - moving the students was something many had talked about for years, and when it finally happened I think we saw an incredible change in the atmosphere.
I'm just saying I hope it continues. People complain about the Schott, that the noise is lost and it seems too quiet at times, but I've heard it rocking before. It's never going to rival St. Johns as far as pure loudness, but if the fans are into the game, it can be pretty intimidating.
I'm splitting hairs here, but at least we are here discussing our excitement for Buckeye basketball, even during football season. That alone shows the impact Matta has had/is having!

perhaps. unlike many (most?) coaches, though, he caters the system to the players' strengths and limitations.MaxBuck;2000011; said:What Matta always has in mind.

My first overall impression is that the Bucks are especially long and lean this year.
I am particularly impressed with the transformation of Sully and Deshaun Thomas. Sully looked more explosive and lean while Deshaun was sleek and much more committed to hustling at all times without Thad's "encouragement". Both have completely reworked their physiques.
Craft looked to be the vocal leader as well as the leader of each of the drills. First in line for everything. He and Scott went to war one on one. Added some muscle in the off season.
Sibert was explosive and shot the ball well.
Scott was lightning fast. He and Craft gave each other fits; each turning the other over in one on one drills. Michael Conley/Dee Brown type quicks.
Sam Thompson was explosive. Really quick off the floor. Different type of dunker than 'Spoon, but still very explosive.
McDonald and Williams were both lean and developing. Definitely not polished like Sully but also not complete projects. Skill sets were so close that I actually couldn't tell the two of them apart in drills. Still learning how hard they have to work.
Ravenal was in great shape and ahead of McDonald and Williams in offensive development. May grab some minutes this year.
Buford looked great but didn't stand out (unlike last year). Says quite a bit about the new talent.
Smith, 'Spoon, and Alex Rogers worked hard but doubt if they see many relevant minutes. 'Spoon had a sick dunk that he banged on the backboard before throwing down.
Paulus was working with the Craft and Scott. Very intense instruction.
Boals and Dickerson mostly worked with the post players. Dickerson can lay a beat down with the football pad. (esp. with McDonald and Williams)
Jent may be the best pick up (other than Sully) in the last several years. Challenged players in shooting drills, super intense, detail oriented, hard butt. Really kicked up the intensity for the whole group (this is not the first OSU team I've seen practice).
Matta was great. Challenged players to beat personal best in drills, really kept on the freshmen, was very positive without inflating egos.
Richardson ran some conditioning drills and made them redo drills that didn't meet his expectations. Deserves much more credit than he receives...
Overall the Bucks look more athletic, stronger, and quicker than last year. Looked to be a rather close knit group as well. I have very high hopes for the season. :osu:
