2011-2012 Men's Buckeye Basketball (Final Four Season)

I never watch ESPN anymore (outside of OSU and soccer games), so could care less about the show, but it would be funny if ESPN is even afraid to step foot on Ohio State's campus for basketball.

2012 Site Schedule
The 2007 appearance with Greg Oden's class is still the only appearance in Columbus. A night game (8 or 9 p.m. start) has to coincide with the visit.

Regardless, at least Jay Bilas can make a tangible, perhaps even objective, thought that doesn't have a basis filled with buzzwords such as "Speed, Athleticism, Plays in Space, or South" and doesn't go out of his way to bash Duke to show his objectivity.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid "fear of coming to OSU" doesn't have anything to do with ESPN's choices of where to host basketball GameDay. I think the main thing is they're trying to get a variety of places to host GameDay, with only 8 sites a year it's hard to diversify and they want to spread it around - almost all of those locations are new for GameDay. OSU hosted GameDay back in 2007, so it's not a "new" place for them to go. Now, the second most-likely reason is there wasn't a great turnout for GameDay at the Schott back in '07, and they want to go places where they're going to get the best fan response ... I'm sure they don't think the Schott is one of those places, and I'm afraid that belief on their part is fair.

As long as their isn't a snowstorm whenever they would've decided to come, I'd have to disagree with that. There were a lot of students at the games last year and they all know we got another great freshmen class coming in.

The games last year were very good. I am impressed by the increasing student and fan support of the basketball team. Thad has done wonders for our program. I look forward to going to a few games each year and I love the atmosphere. Go Bucks

My older brother is around the basketball program on almost a daily basis (a managers roomate) and he told me this morning that the most impressive players in shoot arounds and pick up games has been Weatherspoon. He said he's unbelievable at handling the ball and getting to the rim and is making every shot, especially good at mid range game and backing defenders down from the perimeter and posting them up, good turn around jumper. Maybe he can play some 3 at OSU??

He also told me that Scott and Thompson look like the quickest players on the team but the freshman that is the best all-around looking prospect is Q. Ross.

He said that Sully, Deshaun, and Lenzelle all look like they've lost 15+ pounds and are in great shape and that Jordan Sibert is much smaller than Buford and Smith. He told me that Sibert and Scott are basically built the same, I don't know if that means that Scott is a bit bigger than his listing or if Sibert is smaller but it's probably a little of both.

Also said that Amir and Sully go head to head and Amir blocks Sully's shot around the rim but doesn't score much one on one against the shorter Sullinger.

I'm going up to C-Bus to watch a shoot around next week, can't wait to see what these guys' game looks like if my bro can get me in, I don't think anything is organized right now, he said I can watch them practice, we'll see.

If that's true about Spoon, big ups to him. From academically ineligible to possible rotation player? I've never seen him with handles. If he would just move his feet on defense who knows what's possibly with his athleticism.

Sibert is closer to 6'2", Scott and Lenzelle are closer to 6'4", and Willy is around 6'6" from what I can tell.

I'd say Spoon has probably developed some better ball handling and shooting. These highlights are from his Sr season in HS so he's had 2 years to develop some better skills. He looked like he had solid handles in HS, I'm sure he's only better now.

It just shows how deep we are that J.D. is projected as our 11th or 12th man off the bench.........

I played against him his junior year and have watched him in HS and in garbage time last year. His ball handle and shooting form was pretty mediocre and his ability to jump over people covered it up. If he ends up getting good handles and good shooting holy jebus.

Bucks shouldn't get lost in title discussion

Ohio State Buckeyes shouldn't get lost in national-title discussion -- college basketball - ESPN

Bucks shouldn't get lost in title discussion

By Andy Katz,
ESPN.com

Ohio State lost three games last season.

One to Wisconsin on the road. One to Purdue on the road. One to Kentucky on the final possession in the Sweet 16.

"We won 34 games, were the No. 1 overall seed and we had the No. 51 player drafted in the NBA and that was it," Ohio State coach Thad Matta said of the team he has returning.

The reference is to Jon Diebler, the sharp-shooting 3-point specialist who was taken by Portland late in the second round.

The Buckeyes also lost big man Dallas Lauderdale and David Lighty, the lanky, veteran all-purpose defender. But there's no denying the talent remaining in Columbus. With all the talk and debate surrounding mega-talented teams at North Carolina and Kentucky, and with serious repeat chatter taking place at UConn after the late addition of Andre Drummond, it's easy to forget about Ohio State.

That's not advisable.

The Bucks return the best big man in the country in sophomore Jared Sullinger, one of the top scoring wings in senior William Buford, a heady point guard in sophomore Aaron Craft, a rising talent in sophomore Deshaun Thomas and another stellar group of newcomers led by McDonald's All-Americans point guard Shannon Scott, center Amir Williams, small forwards Sam Thompson and LaQuinton Ross and Boston College transfer Evan Ravenel. That is without a question a preseason top-five team.

Ohio State doesn't even start school until Sept. 21 under the quarters system, but can start to work out with the coaching staff Thursday. So as other title contenders are already nearly a month into their pre-preseason grind, the Buckeyes haven't even begun.

I thought Drummond was a 2012 prospect, thus he wouldn't be playing this year...

You must have not been paying attention when the news came out about a month ago that he decided to attend college instead of going for an extra year of HS. Drummond always could have been in the '11 class and had the credits but he had most everyone thinking he was going to come out of HS in '12, until he abruptly changed his mind (or Calhoun's check cleared) a month ago. I guess we should wonder why he wanted to go to prep school for a 5th year of HS instead of college in the first place - perhaps to help make it harder for his NBA stock to drop since he could go pro out of prep school?

We don't have much longer to wait until practice starts up and we will begin seeing some more updates on the B-ball team and their progress/promise.

I know it gets said quite a bit, but it is amazing what Thad Matta has done with this program. He seems to find those top-shelf recruits to build around, and those detail-oriented players who do the dirty work to make Matta's teams successful. Not only does he bring in talented players, he brings in good people.

I sincerely hope the basketball program receives the support they deserve from the OSU faithful. If we begin making the Schott an amazing atmosphere along with the talent Matta has accumulated, the sky is the limit.

:oh:
