  • Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Five-star prospects commit to Army AA Bowl
    (free)

Ten players that have been ranked by Rivals.com as five-star prospects have declared their intentions to play in the 10th annual Army All-American Bowl, which will be played Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The list includes all five of the nation's top prospects, including No. 1 ranked Seantrel Henderson, an offensive tackle from Saint Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall.

Other players that have been previously announced that they will play in the game are McDonough (Ga.) Henry County receiver Markeith Ambles, San Diego Mission Bay running back Dillon Baxter, Chapel Hill, N.C., offensive lineman Robert Crisp, Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps and Palatine (Ill.) Fremd offensive lineman Christian Lombard.

The game that has featured legendary alumni like Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Adrian Peterson and Tim Tebow, will also include future stars like No. 2 ranked Lache Seastrunk, a running back from Temple, Texas, No. 3 ranked Darius White, a receiver from Fort Worth (Texas) Dunbar, No. 4 ranked Marcus Lattimore, a running back Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes, and No. 5 ranked Matt Elam, an athlete from West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer.

Other five-star prospects that declared their intentions to play in the game include defensive back Lamarcus Joyner of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, offensive tackle James Hurst of Indianapolis (Ind.) Plainfield, running back Michael Dyer of Little Rock (Ark.) Little Rock Christian, running back Malcolm Jones of Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, linebacker Chris Martin of Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd.

U.S. Army All-American nominees show value of proximity to recruits - Andy Staples - SI.com

The fine folks at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl recently shipped over a list of the 422 nominees for the annual all-star game. During the next few months, game organizers will whittle the list into the two teams that will play at San Antonio's Alamo Dome on Jan. 9. But it's more than just an honor to be nominated. These players are providing a valuable research opportunity.

When the list arrived in spreadsheet form, I knew it was time to crunch some numbers. The list allowed me to further test the hypothesis put forth in January's recruit mapping project -- that a college football program's location plays as much or more of a role in that program's success or failure than the coach, facilities or tradition.

This list differs from the January list, which compiled all the BCS-conference signees from 2004-08, because that list included signees from schools that wouldn't have a chance of landing the players on this list. For 10 years, the Army game has targeted the best players in the nation. Though some of these 422 nominees will wind up playing in ESPN's competing game -- and though the Palmer (Alaska) High Moose managed an unusually high three nominees -- most of the big names in the Class of 2010 are on the list.

The five-year data were telling, but this helps provide an even clearer picture of the advantage certain schools enjoy when compiling talent. The five-year data examined every BCS-conference signee. These nominees are some of the nation's very best. We know their geographic distribution isn't a quirk, because it's similar to the picture painted by five years' worth of signees. (Check out the map of the nominees' hometowns here.)

Sizing up the Army Bowl rosters
    Mike Farrell

    ...
How about East five-star cornerback Latwan Anderson from Ohio matched up in single coverage against fellow five-star Dillon Baxter - who hails from California and will play receiver for the West? Or maybe jumbo wide receivers Ross Apo and Nate Askew from Texas and Marcus Lucas from Missouri from the West going against East cornerbacks like Cullen Christian from Pennsylvania, Christian Bryant from Ohio and Jaylen Watkins from Florida? No matter how you slice it, this could be the key to the game. Receivers usually have the advantage in games like this with limited practice, so the slight edge has to go to the West here.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Army Bowl announcement watch 2010

ATH Latwan Anderson, 5-11/185, Cleveland Glenville
Overall Rank: No. 18 Schools: Miami, Michigan, Mich. State, North Carolina, Ohio State, West Virginia
Farrell analysis: Anderson was a strong West Virginia lean until Ohio State offered. Miami and North Carolina have visits scheduled for January, but Anderson is expected to commit to the Buckeyes and likely end the process.

DT Sharrif Floyd, 6-3/310, Philadelphia George Washington
Overall Rank: No. 9 Schools: Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina
Farrell analysis: Ohio State, Florida and North Carolina are the big three here and it was closer between the Buckeyes and Gators before the Urban Meyer situation. Buckeyes win this one.

Just the names announcing at the game who might pick OSU.

    Update Page Rivals

Here is the homepage for all articles related to the Army Bowl. Some are free, some are $...figured this would be a handy link for all updates. Just about every article raves about Floyd. Henderson looked like he was struggling against Odighizuwa in one on one's.

DT Sharrif Floyd, 6-3/310, Philadelphia George Washington
    895761.jpg
    Overall Rank: No. 9
Schools: Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina
Farrell analysis: It's still Ohio State and Florida with UNC on the outside looking in and while Floyd said it was the Buckeyes in the lead at the beginning of the week, Florida has gained momentum in a big way. Right now it's too close to call but I'll stick with Ohio State but very slightly over the Gators and this could change as we get closer to decision day.

ATH Latwan Anderson, 5-11/185, Cleveland Glenville
    Overall Rank: No. 18
Schools: Miami, Michigan, Mich. State, North Carolina, Ohio State, West Virginia
Farrell analysis: More and more good sources tell me that if Anderson is going to decide this week it will be West Virginia and not Ohio State. He has Miami and North Carolina scheduled for January visits and Ohio State will make a push if he delays his decision, but if he decides this weekend I'm going to now fall in line and pick the Mountaineers.
