If Michigan fires RR (like they should), and their two choices are Harbaugh and Miles, I think that each sends a message to the fans:

Les Miles - LSU fans don't seem to like him. It sounds like they want him fired. So if Michigan hires Les Miles, they're telling their fans that they're willing to hire the guy who isn't good enough for LSU. Basically, they'd be admitting that they're a tier below LSU. Can you imagine any Michigan fans admitting that they're a tier below ANYONE?

Jim Harbaugh - Seems to be an up-and-coming head coach. All the job security he could ever ask for. If Michigan wants him, they'd have to steal him away. They'd be telling their fans that they want guy who is on the rise, who cares about the "student" part of "student-athlete" and all that rhetoric stuff.

I think that if Michigan is smart, Miles missed his opportunity to coach at Michigan.

But here's to 3 more years of RR :cheers:

I thought his his second season was 7-5, not 5-7...my goof. Still, he took a 1-11 team from 2006 and in three years built it into a very respectable unit (with 2 wins over USC). Harbaugh's first two years were one win better than DickRod's (4-8 vs 3-8 in first season, both 5-7 in second season), and he inherited a 1-11 team, not a 9-4 team with a bowl win over Florida. Oh yeah, he coaches at Stanford, not the place that has the greatest winning percentage in major college football history. He is light years ahead of DickRod in recruiting ability and is a more sound football coach.

Harbaugh 13-12
DickRod 8-16

Harbaugh did it in a program with very little history or cache, DickRod took over one of the elite programs in the sport and has turned it into a punchline.

Harbaugh is not a top coach yet. He's a fast rising one, and would probably bring James Vaughters with him to Ann Arbor. 'Dire need' doesn't describe how badly Ann Arbor needs a player like that.

You don't know what you're talking about.... at 6-2, 232 50.1% of all insiders are saying he's just too big these days.

I will credit him for turning the program around, no doubt. I'll be watching them this season to see how they do. Like I said, if he's successful and UM has another craptastic year then let bygones be bygones and bring him in.

I think Harbaugh is showing he is a better recruiter than Rich Rod at well

bringing in some pretty good talent at Stanford this year
