2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

I don't doubt it. As Stanford improves
He secured verbals from Tai-Ler Jones, Torrian Wilson and others coming off of a 5-7 season. He has recruited well above his school's reputation & prestige. RR has not.
UM is marred in scandal, I am not surprised.
UM is mired in losing, not the scandal, which is a byproduct of his failures. If RR doesn't lose all of those bad games in 08 & 09, this thing never surfaces.

If Jim Tressel was sanctioned for practicing too much, there would be some trivial articles condemning him for it, but most of the HS coaches and recruits would laugh it off.

The only reason the sanctions carry any weight is because the word is out that RR is on the edge of losing his job, if he hasn't lost it already.

that would be an epic fail. I just don't see it happening, but if it did, I'd be all aboard the firerichrod train.

the only way I see it happening is if the team completely falls apart and quits after some embarrassing early losses, which I think is entirely possible given the head coach, the lack of proven leaders on defense, and the rotating QB situation made worse by the fact that Forcier is a little bitch that is going to cause locker room problems in the almost guaranteed scenario in which he is directly responsible for one of the embarrassing losses via turnovers and has his play time cut

IMO, Michigan only has 2 games that they cant possibly lose

that being Umass and Bowling Green

I'll second that, here is how I see it playing out:

Demoralizing, close loss at home to UCONN.
Blown out at Notre Dame
Less than two touchdown victory against UMASS.
Close loss to BGSU
Win at Indiana, but barely
Steamrolled by MSU - fire RR gets loud
Barely lose to Iowa - firing RR seems like it is inevitable
Lose close to Penn State
Illinois trounces them - RR's last game as head coach
Purdue is a should win, but mistakes cost the game
Wisconsin runs for 400 yards on them, easily winning
Ohio State backs off after the first half, but still wins by three scores

I don't see them going 2-10. I think they should be around .500 plus or minus one or two games. Looking at their schedule again:
Home against UCONN-
At Notre Dame-
Home against Mass- Win
Home against Bowling Green- Win
At Indiana- Win
Home against MSU-
Iowa- Loss
Penn State- Loss
Illinois
At Purdue
Wisky- Loss
At Ohio State- Loss

To me, there are only 3-4 SURE losses on Michigan's schedule. The bolded games are games that I put their win percentage between 40-55 percent. Assuming they win half of those games, that still gives them like six losses.
I think they start the season off like last year, winning against UCONN, Notre Dame, Mass, BG, and Indiana. The MSU game may be the biggest game of Dick Rod's coaching career at Michigan. If they win that, they may be able to beat either PSU or Wisky, giving them a solid year. I see them losing either against Illi or against Purdue before losing to both Wisky and OSU.

However, a loss against either UCONN or Notre Dame will probably wreck this team and start a downward spiral pretty quickly.

W - CN - Shootout win, neither team with much defense.
L @ ND - Close loss, ND's inexperience is nullified by UM's inability to cover. Floyd, Rudolph & Allen all have big days.
W - MA - Blowout victory
W - BG - Win handily
W @ IU- Win by a healthy margin after a close first half.
L. - MS - Loss, Nichol no longer there to slow down Cousins, who picks apart UM's secondary. Boosters & alumni want him gone.
W - IA - Quality upset, though Iowa loses 2-3 more after that game. This makes things even messier, given the contrasting weeks.
L. - PS - Royster & PSU's defense are too much for Michigan. Newsome's youth keeps it close.
W - IL - UM beats a bad ILL team by 10, like they should have done last year.
L. - PU - Robert Marve beats them through the air, and Keith Smith has his way with Floyd & Woolfolk's 10 yard cushions.
L - UW - Clay, Ball & Hendricks beat up on UM's undersized defense.
L - OS - With a shot at a heisman invitation & NC bid, Tressel does not set the offensive cruise control like the last three years*

* - some UM fans will try to claim he ran it up in 08, what with punting frequently on their 30 yd line and calling predictable run, run, pass sequences to close out the 2nd half.

Unless they absolutely implode, I can't see less than 5-6 wins. I expect them to win 6-8 ballgames, but still lose some inexcusable ones that will make it tough to retain RR, like Michigan State.

UCONN is a HUGE game for UM.

I feel that if they lose this first game by 10 points or more, the team gets totally deflated and we see 3-4 wins on the year and coaching search.

If it is a close, hard fought loss, I think we maybe see 5-6 wins and a coaching search.

If they win, their confidence could carry forward and they could very well rip off 7 to 9 wins on the season, but lose in a bowl game. This will net RR one more year to, you know, "get his players in for his system and start dominating the Big Ten".

Of course, they could roar out to a 4-0 record just like they did last year which turned out SO well for them.

With what defense and special teams? Hagerup may be the most important piece of the wolverine puzzle. If he doesn't measure up they are in serious trouble. They do not have a punter that will average over 36 yards per punt besides him...if he is what he bragged up to be. The shitty fucking defense their 3rd string QB tore the shit out of.

UCONN...Loss The power run game of UCONN will wear the wolverines down.

ND...loss

Umass...Win

BG...will be a close game

Indiana is a loss...hell they should have lost last year. No Brandon Graham

I watched their spring game...linebackers are slow and out of position...same with the DB's...DL is decent but lacks depth...special teams a fucking train wreck.

Offensively their WR's are better but RB's are not as good. Offense may be better but the special teams and defense are worse.

4-8
