Kovacs is basically the same player he was last year. He is a good tackler, but only a drag down guy. Two times he filled the hole nicely, only to give up 4 yards after contact to freshman spread running backs bowling him over. This becomes a lot more problematic when Saine, Hampton or Clay come rumbling through the hole.
After being bowled over twice, he lost containment on Tate on a rollout juke move. The no-contact jersey gave Kovacs a bailout call, because he only grazed Tate with one hand as Forcier began to gain the edge outside. They let those one hand flails go uncalled on other plays.
Did a nice job sniffing out the double screen, slicing through to hit the WR as he caught it, but bounced off after the hit. Fortunately for him, his teammates cleaned it up.
Final play on the drive he was blocked to a standstill on the sideline, giving up a big running lane for Cox around the left side for a 22 yd scamper. Floyd tried to dive and cover for him but was too late, and Gordon couldn't make the play in the last 5 yards, although both of those were desperation attempts.
He's the kind of scout team walkon you want on your squad, not one that should be one of the better tacklers on your defense.
