2010 TSUN News (in-season)

The delay is based soley on DickRod's buyout clause in his contract: According to CBS sports, if Brandon and school officials decide to fire Rodriguez without cause on or after Jan. 1, the buyout drops from $4 million to $2.5 million.

This factoid from ScriptOhio above, plus the quote from the AD that stated he wouldn't evaluate RR until after the season (which included a bowl game for a change) is what convinced me that if they lose the bowl game, RR is out.

Three years in and Rich STILL doesn't have a signature win. What is Rich's signature win?

Damn, you guys are tough to please. It was the game of the year, as voted by the Big 10 Network. Held the Texas Bowl Champs to 65 points and earned a Big 10 victory. If that doesn't have signature win written all over it, I don't know what does. RR is doing an outstanding job. Once he gets all of the pieces into place, watch out. UM just needs to be patient. :wink2:

Can't wait to hear Brady Hoke named the new HC up there.

I don't think it's Hoke.

Lots of smoke out there that it's Harbaugh.

Schefter and Clayton of ESPN both said today that it's looking like Harbaugh to Michigan is all but a done deal.

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network has been saying he's hearing Harbaugh is leaning to Michigan for the past week.

Michael Lombardi excused himself from the 49ers GM position publicly on the NFL Network, and Lombardi was probably the best chance the 49ers had of getting Harbaugh, as Lombardi is close to both Jim and John.

Also, Tom "Killer" Kowalski, the Lions beat writer said on his radio show today that according to his sources, that Harbaugh isn't nearly as hot of a commodity in NFL circles as the media (ESPN in particular) is making him out to be. He said that the 49ers may want Harbaugh, he doesn't know for sure, all he's saying is that Harbaugh isn't this super-hot commodity on every short list for coaching jobs in the NFL like ESPN would have you believe.

Also, the big bust up between Harbaugh and Lloyd Carr happened when Jim lobbied Bo to get the QB coach position that was vacated when Stan Parrish left. Jim wanted that job badly and Lloyd went with one of his guys, Scot Loeffler. Jim wanted to coach here really bad, and if you'll remember one of the things Mike Hart said in response to Jim's "comments" was that Harbaugh was mad because he wanted to coach at Michigan and he didn't get too...and Hart was right in saying that.

Another thing to consider...Dave Brandon was coached by a one Jack Harbaugh in his last two years at Michigan when he switched from QB to DE, and from what I've heard Brandon is friendly with Jack and has maintained a solid relationship with him over all of these years.

I really think it's Harbaugh.

someone said on another board that several NFL coaches would be interested in the Michigan job if it was available. I can't really see someone going from the NFL to college by choice.

NFL head coaches, probably not. But NFL assistants might want to make that move, it happens fairly often.

Do you know who they were speculating about?

I can.

So long as Michigan is willing to pay in that 4+ million range.

There aren't that many coaches in the NFL that make ridiculous amounts of money. I think the average salary is around $3.5 million in the NFL.

Belicheck and Carroll are the only ones making $7+ million, but Belicheck can name his price, that guy is worth every penny, and well the Seahawks owner Paul Allen has more money than god and could probably pay a coach $30 million a year if he wanted to.

The NFL is a pressure cooker, and way less satisfying IMO.

If a coach succeeds at a place like Michigan - or Ohio State or Penn State - or any big-time NCAA program, he's a god. He owns the city, the program, the everything.

In the NFL? Not so much. Tom Coughlin just won a Super Bowl in 2007 and has his team in play-off contention and he's on the hot-seat. The NFL is a different animal.
