10 Reasons Why Michigan is where they are right now....

In nor particular order

1. Carr was allowed to rely on his 97 National Title for far too long... he got lazy in recruiting his last 5 years or so...We had an AD in Bill Martin who was all about developing new venues on campus (Go figure real estate background) which was partially great but made us suffer in other areas...IMO Carr should have been gone in 05 after that 7-5 year and we could have avoided where we are now... He was quickly becoming the mark Richt of the B10 and never getting over the 9-3 hump which as well all know was becoming not acceptable at Michigan which is why we hired RR as a complete shift in mentality

2. Our D recruiting has been poor for the past 8 years.... we have landed a few top heavy kids like Woodley and Graham but outside of it nothing

3. Too many scheme changes in recent years on D (sadly we will have another one on D this year one way or another and I am hopeful this time around for some odd reason

4.LB recruiting has been piss poor... in fact a lot of guys in the mid 2000's did not even end up here or transferred out (poor talent eval on D by both the Carr Regime and RR

5. Lack of focus on special teams by this coaching staff...and by Carr as well at PK

6. the coaching search in 07 was botched from the start thus giving the media something negative to feed on and they have run with us and kicked us with it ever since...RR has been doomed from day one

7. We have not beaten Ohio State more than once in the memorable future for high school recruits these days...it is hard enough to bring kids from the south to the north to play and when that happens they want to play for a winner (ie: osu) The what have you done for me lately mentality.

8. We have not had a playmaker at running back since Chris Perry... yes I know mike hart I am thankful for everything he did here and the kid is one of my favorite all time wolverines... but he was not a game changer in the sense that he could break it any time he touched the ball... we need some success in the NFL from past guys so high school kids jump on board and see what they could be (maybe this changes with Dee coming in)

9. We got spoiled with great DE's and WR's for so many years that I think we jsut thought they would always be there and stopped recruiting elite level players at those positions

10. Our culture has been soft for the past 10 years... Carr ran a country club and RR does the opposite, but i dont think his other coaches do the same... they all come off as quiet guys for the most part.

I could go on but these are my basics

:roll1: It would appear this schtick is getting old to a growing number of scUM supporters:

How did I know your first response would be "It's Lloyd Carr's fault" Please people stop with this rubbish. It is not Lloyd's fault.

Re: 10 Reasons Why Michigan is where they are right now....

No it is not Lloyd's fault. This is year three and you name me 5 defensive recruits that are good or honestly say you think the 3-3-5 will work in the big 10. Scott Shaffer is doing fine at Syracuse so i guess that is not RR"s fault either making him run a defense he did not believe in or coach with guys that would not listen to him as the defensive coordinator.. The only defensive recruit that you can name is Mike Martin. A Lloyd carr recruit. The fact is RR is in way over his head. This is not the Big East.

Re: 10 Reasons Why Michigan is where they are right now....

blamin Lloyd for this is utterly pathetic, and you should be ashamed, Lloyd brought us a National Championship team several Big Ten Championship, Big bowl wins over Alabama, Auburn and Florida, Rich Rod hasn't beaten a legit top twenty five team.

As bad as our Defense is RR is still trying to bring in more slots. Don't we have a ton of them. Can we convert them to Db's

RE: 10 Reasons Why Michigan is where they are right now....

you can come up with 200 excuses or 200 facts. At the end of the day Rich is 4-16 vs the Big10. Dave Brandon will fix the mess Bill Martin created with his coaching decisions.

Looks like the carr excuse is running out of gas...

IMO Carr should have been gone in 05 after that 7-5 year and we could have avoided where we are now...

What a moron....didn't Scum come into C-Bus the very next year undefeated and #2 in the country????

Don't give them any fodder!

Next thing you know a 7-5 season is a preempting of a title run!

But then again, nobody would be crazy enough to think that...surely...

To me, if we struggle offensively against Illinois, Wisconsin, and OSU you SERIOUSLY have to ask yourself what we're doing here.

You hear the phrase, "that's a big if". Well, this is about the smallest if in the history of mankind.

They keep talking about the points they've scored at the end of the game. What they fail to mention is that they've fallen behind so far that the other team becomes disinterested in playing defense.

**Another thing I have to keep saying is this**

I keep getting scary inboxes and email saying it's my fault somehow - that I'm a Rich-lover and so its my fault, or whatever the weird logic is.

SO, once again I say this:

-- I reported the anti-RR headwinds that he's faced ... because it's true ... that doesn't make me a RR-lover or anything else, just a reporter
-- RR is nice to the press, and that's been nice, my IMO ...
-- I love the spread when it's well-played, I think it's the most exciting O, but that's just a personal preference
-- however, whatever RR does or doesn't do as far as wins and losses, especially in Year Three ... hey, I want to win too ...

-- **Don't misinterpret and think I'm standing up for the losses**
However, at this point there's 1/3 of this season to go ... you have to play it out, then, after the season, you decide if it's working or not, what to do, etc. Now's not the time for that -- that's just emotion speaking.

**And try your best, please, not to blame me for the bad-D
