2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Locker hasn't done squat worthy of a high NFL draft spot. Bradford's injury issues will come into play. Tebow is a great college QB but still hasn't shown he's worthy of being a first-round NFL QB. That leaves McCoy and Snead as true draft competition, and Snead hasn't exactly been lighting it up this year.

Snead is terrible. He is not an NFL QB. He is J.P. Losman all over again. I like McCoy, Bradford and Clausen to be the top QBs drafted. Maybe a smaller school, or lower D-1A schoole QB that I don't really know of right now will come along, but these are the top pure NFL QBs in the draft.

Positive vibes coming from the scout board (per insiders) on Hankins and Floyd. Hankins I'm luke warm on (at best, not that I'm some guru or anything), but Floyd would be a monster get...
Hankins is gonna surprise some people, Tressel sees something that others dont. These under the radar players have been some of Tressels best. It sounds like he is going after Hankins I hard. I like it:biggrin:

I feel more comfortable with Mr. Floyd.

We went from nowhere in the discussion to having a possible lead. I love it.

Hankins has the kind of size to plug the middle that is hard to come by, question seems to be how hard he's willing to work (on and off the field). If he puts in the work, he'd be a great addition, if not, they're better off looking elsewhere. I think we have the wiggle room to take a guy like him though. Floyd, to me, would be as big a get as Joyner for this defense.

NFL scouts are very, very high on Locker. As are many other scouting services, i.e. scouts at NFL Network, ESPN (although I don't consider Kiper or McShay's input very valuable), etc. I do like Mayock's recruiting though.

I can understand "high" as in Matt James High (no pun intended). He's a helluva an athlete, but next level QB is not likely IMO. Besides, I imagine he'll weigh going MLB since he's already under contract.

Los Angeles Angels sign Washington Huskies QB Jake Locker to contract - ESPN

I am VERY high on Hankins. He has massive potential and the physical tools are all there. If the consistency, grades and motor were as well, my guess is he would be a top 100 player minimum, likely a 5 star. If Tressel feels fairly confident that Hankins will make it in and work hard, he is certainly worth taking in my books. As for Floyd, he would be the biggest get in terms of both talent and need imo. If we can land both, I would be very, very pleased with the DT class.

It's pretty crazy to think that OSU has a decent shot to close with 5 guys in Rivals top 18.

Tressel Can't Close!!!

I actually wouldn't say that too early this season...it's quite conceivable that we could end up missing an all five. I do agree that it is exciting to be in the race for the five but I just hope it doesn't end up burning us if they go elsewhere.

Josh Freeman didn't exactly win anything in college football either but look where he was drafted?

Locker will be one of the first 3 QB's taken off the board, and a lot of people have him going as the 1st. Huge difference between the college and pro game in terms of QB play. I think Locker will fare quite well in the league personally. He hasn't had any talent around him at UW since he's been there keep in mind. Dudes a gamer too.

I don't know if Snead is terrible. He's playing on a VASTLY overrated team, which lost their best OL. The media was in love with them at the beginning of the season but they lost some key parts. Snead is still throwing over 56% completion and has a solid arm, his team just sucks! Just like when Jay Cutler was at Vandy and even when Matt Ryan was at BC, his starts were pretty mediocre. He had 19 picks his senior season. I don't think during a college football season you can tell who's gonna be successful in the league yet. CFB is a gimmicky game where few QBs make it because most of them play in a cute, gimmicky system like the spread which is never played in the NFL
