2010 tOSU Offensive Line Discussion

Mike Adams got beat a few times but other than that the line was solid. Many teams will look good against marshall, let's see how we do against miami's line

Doubt many teams will look that good. And it was a season opener which usually means sloppy play. OL gets an A.

They, along with TP, need to really work on recognizing where the blitz is coming from for the Cryami game. There were a few times a player came untouched from TP's blind side. Don't want TP to get injured 2 games into the season.

I think that in the scUM south game we'll see the true maturation of TP, and the O-Line. The O-Line needs to give TP some time to work through his progressions, but as soon as the internal clock goes off, TP needs to take off and find some open field. I haven't seen Cryami play much, other than UW smashing them, but they'll probably come in with their somewhat overdone swagger, and play overly aggressive. If the O-Line can hold their blocks, then TP could have a big game on the ground, improvising, with the overpursuit and overconfidence of scUM's D. I'm also sure that scUM's players have heard about how fast Florida players are, so I'm looking forward to seeing their faces as TP, Posey, Saine and Stoney run away from them.

Just a few observations. Yeah, Adams was beaten at least twice that I saw (only reviewed twice). The blocking sled appears to me to be alabama helmets (red with white stripe). Saine's two big runs were indiscriminate. First was over left side between Boren and Brew, and the TD run was between Browning and Shugarts. That was nice to see.

I'd just say line Sanzo, Posey and Stoney on one side and let them rip it downfield. There's your three. Also thought that Stoneburner would catch two 'fly' pattern balls, guess they're saving something for Cryami. Also Norwell was stout, and didn't take any s*** from the Marshall DE that I could see. Definitely glad to see the mean streak being passed from Boren to Norwell. The 2's weren't quite as impressive, however. They didn't move anyone off the ball, although they might have later (after my multiple glasses of cab set in) when Jordan started his rampage. Anyway, didn't get the three C-note rushers I thought, we passed more, but TP stood tall and didn't have to scramble for yardage as was his wont last year. Won't crow too loudly until OSU dismantles Cryami, then we'll see.

Adams got beat on speed rushes early, but seemed to settle down a bit.
Everyone else looked solid-good. Still not a great O line by any stretch but it's early.
Adams will have his hands full next week.

Lets give a little credit to the fact that there are several guys on the Miami line who will be making a living playing on Sundays.

But yes, there is still room for improvement

To the Offensive Line junkies/experts here, I have a question about 2011.

How realistic is it to think that to replace Boren and Browning, the staff moves Norwell and Hall into the interior for just 2011. It seems to me that would serve the purpose of having your five best on the field and also give our two future tackles a full season of valuable starting experience on a possible championship team.

Would this present problems to either guys as far as the differences in techniques and skills needed to play the interior vs the tackle spots?

Then you have Linsley as the back up C and Mewhort and Longo as the super subs

Thoughts?

I think that there will be open competition for the two spots. I would be surprised if Hall isn't one of the guys who ends up starting. Not sure who will win the other spot. Hearing good things about Mewhort, Linsey and Norwell.

One thing is for sure, nobody is going to be given the spot.

Yeah, I know there will be open competition for the guard spots(assuming the Brew Crew stays-which I believe they, as well as the entire 2008 class, will).

And I'm happy for that. If Longo or Mehwort(or even one of the incoming frosh) is better and wins the job, then great!

I think I'm just projecting my own opinion that a 2011 line of Adams, Norwell, Brewster, Hall, and Shugarts would be the biggest, nastitest, and most talented line we've had around here since O Pace and Korey Stringer in 95-96(or were they only together the one year?)

I dont know how the line could be better when you loose a 1st round draft pick in Justin Boren.

Love Justin Boren but he will not be a first round draft pick. 2nd or 3rd possibly depending on how the rest of this season plays out.

The line as a whole COULD be better with three premium talents as Senior starters in the Brew Crew and because I honestly believe that Hall and Norwell can adequately fill the shoes of Browning and Boren(who are both absolutely consistent high perfromance guys)

I dont know how the line could be better when you loose a 1st round draft pick in Justin Boren.

There was 1 play that stood out for me when I watched the Miami game video.

On the shovel pass to Boom, take a look at the positioning of the O-line at the moment that Boom catches the ball and heads upfield. 5 guys all spread out, forming a cup for the short completion, but 5 hats all on a hat.

Great execution on a play that tOSU has rarely run.

Anyone else gain a little bit of respect for the offensive line after watching Miami's front 7 absolutely decimate Pitt? That Miami's D is unquestionably legit and Pitt had no answer up front.

414 yds for us compared to 232 yds for Pitt...I think the difference in O-line play has a ton to do with that.

I was thinking the same thing. Add to that the fact that the OL did not commit a penalty against OU and we are seeing some stellar line play. Still some room for improvement, but you have to be happy after watching what Miami did to Pitt.
