ah yes, the Jacksonville reference should have given it away I suppose

edit: on second thought, has the Florida Georgia game always been at a neutral site?

It's just too much money to turn down. And the fans would be livid if it returned to a home/home situation. I can't emphasize enough how big of a party atmosphere it is. Both schools have their fall break centered around the weekend - plus its typically played close to Halloween

Also - most years the weather is awesome. And both teams are typically pretty good.

I think you're right to suggest that people would be pissed if it just "all of a sudden" became a neutral game - but it's always been like this, so it's a cherished traditions :)

yeah, I was mistaken

I will stick with the intensity of home games for a rivalry though, but the red river shout out and whatever you call the Georgia Florida game (biggest cocktail party on earth or something right?) has its own unique benefits I suppose

Florida assistants will make between $240K and $440K, not counting something extra for Addazio during Urban's 'leave of [strike] senses [/strike] absence".

CBS

Florida assistants to earn $2.66 million in 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's assistant coaches will earn $2.66 million in base salary in 2010, placing them near the top in the Southeastern Conference.

The contracts were released Tuesday. Each of the nine assistants will receive a $10,000 bonus as part of the school's apparel contract with Nike and have the use of a dealership car. The contracts run through January 2012.

New defensive coordinator Teryl Austin tops the list at $440,000 annually, followed by offensive coordinator Steve Addazio ($375,000), defensive line coach Dan McCarney ($340,000) and secondary coach Chuck Heater ($305,000).

Quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler, tight ends coach Brian White, running backs coach Stan Drayton, linebackers coach D.J. Durkin and receivers coach Zach Azzanni will earn $240,000 apiece.

Addazio will receive an additional undisclosed stipend for tasks done in place of head coach Urban Meyer, who has scaled back his workload since returning from a leave of absence.

Cont'd ...

Saw this article and I think Finebaum is a bit off his rocker here. Seems to me that he is totally all in for Mike Slive and the SEC, like balls slapping his chin deep.

Finebaum: SEC's Mike Slive steals mojo from Big Ten's Jim Delany | al.com

OK, Ohio State has not done well against SEC opponents, we get that. But why only show the record for Ohio State? What about the rest of the conference? I believe that it is pretty even if I recall. And the fact that he brings up Michigan's record under The Great DickRod and Barwis!!!111!!, which is like bringing up Florida under the Zooker a few years ago.

The fact that he brings up the BTN and the fact that the SEC signed their soul to ESPiN is, in his eyes, a better deal. Yet, he neglects the fact that the BTN is an open ended revenue source that will only expand as the coverage expands, where the ESPiN/SEC deal has limitations to the amount of revenue the conference will get.

I am really getting sick and tired of all the chest beating the SEC and their lemmings do on a daily basis.

OK, I am done venting. Just that these type of articles where the auther literally attacks others' character blantantly and childishly (the remark about Slive taking Delany's manhood!?!? Really?!?! You are how old?!?!) really irk me.

I see your problem.

You assumed that Finebaum had an ounce of journalistic integrity, and that as a journalist he would not display an agenda to pimp Bama and anything remotely related to Bama as hard as he could....

Couple of thoughts buxfan:

1. In response to Finebaum, I'd recommend you behave as SEC fans behave whenever he writes an article.
First, roll your eyes. Second, make a jerk off motion with your hand. Finally - promise yourself to never read anything he writes again.

2. Keep in mind who he's dealing with and where he's working. Birmingham - he's got to throw meat to the hungry masses who don't have pro-sports to hold them over till the fall. He predictably writes the same articles every year about "ZOMG - WHO'S ON THE HOT SEAT!"

3. Yes, he's kissing Slive's ass in hopes of scoring points and getting first interviews if any expansion moves are made.

Recommendation - ignore it. That's what most SEC fans are doing.

Journalistic integrity? I made no such assumption based on the fact he is a sportswriter. Being a sports writer automatically takes away any assumption of him having any journalistic integrity in my book. :)
