Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

I flipped on ESPNU the other day, and lo and behold USC's game against Oregon came on. Now, when I turned it on it was 34-20 Oregon with around 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and USC had the ball. USC was able to consistently gain yardage on the ground, I mean Bradford ripped off like a 15 yard run IIRC and they were just pounding it right down Oregon's throats. Then, for some reason, they abandoned the run game and had Barkley throwing the ball and it killed the drive.

This gives me a ton of confidence for what we can do on the ground against Oregon.. I already had confidence after seeing what we did against Penn St. when they stacked 8 in the box too, but this makes me feel even better.
While it looked like they could run it down our throats, they didn't and no team just ran the ball against Ore. The teams we had trouble against were teams that had good throwing QB's with good running games. The exception being the Civil War game against Ore St. Ore St QB was throwing at a 70% completion rate and they had a good running back. But as the Ducks did all season they outlasted their opponents. They are in unbelievable shape as they play a fast up tempo style football. Don't look at the TOP stats because the Ducks score fast, which means the D is on the filed a lot. But they have been doing this for several years so they are used to it. TP doesn't look like a threat to throw the ball against us so I think Ore will play the run as they have done all year. Our D plays against a running QB in practice so they will be ready for Pryor. The only team to run the ball down Oregons throat all day was Standford and their QB was having his best game of the year. Plus their running back was a Heisman candidate and is a monster of a running back. But in the end the final score was 44-20 with Oregon beating USC.

I wonder what takes more time off the clock, a quick scoring drive or a 3 and out?

I'm wondering how Oregon will respond to adversity given that everyone in the country seems to think all they have to do is show up and we're gonna let them do whatever they want.

If the ducks share their some of their fans' hubris, it could be an even longer day for them.

I'm just ready for this game to get here.

with any game, this one will be won in the trenches, and I feel good about the way our O line has gelled as the season progressed, and obviously great about the way our D line has DOMINATED all season long. Rolling out is no protection from Thad and Cam, btw. In fact, Masoli may be rolling right into them, forcing him to stay in the pocket. I mention this, because even in some of the big stage losses we've suffered in recent years, you don't just run on this D.

As many duck fans have pointed out, you have to have the pass game going, I just wonder how Oregon's offense will adjust if they have to rely on it. While misdirection has hurt us at times, we always adjust and shut it down.

This is going to be a great game!

Go Bucks!

The last time a BCS bowl with Ohio State in it had a team think that all they had to do was show up ended with that team getting their asses handed to them.

Not sure where your getting this idea from. I've only read that it's your D against our O.

I'm not objective when it comes to Ohio State, my bad...fml.

No one is.
Uh, many here are objective when it comes to Ohio State.

And I chose to be even less objective than normal due to the fact that the other guy is clueless. His post was nice and objective for ya.
At least his post didn't have elementary-school retorts. While his post was pretty homerish (imagine that, coming from an UO fan), there were no comments like "You ain't shit", "We're gonna blow you out", "Slohio", "Suckeyes", etc.
