Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

For the most part we don't have to shut them down, because we out score them. Thats why I think OSU will have trouble in keeping up with Oregon if it's a track meet.

This post is completely based on statistics only:

Please keep in mind that Ohio State ranks 5th in the country at preventing total 1st downs.
Oregon is 39th in the country for making 1st downs.

Also.....we've faced one high powered offense that has a shorter TOP than Oregon, one team that has a better red zone offense than Oregon, 1 team with a better rushing attack than Oregon, 10 teams with a better passing attack than Oregon, and 1 team with a better total offense than Oregon.

Oregon hasn't faced a rushing defense better than Ohio State, faced 1 passing defense better than Ohio State (and lost that game), hasn't faced a better total defense, hasn't faced a better scoring defense, hasn't faced a team better suited at causing turnovers, hasn't faced a better team than Ohio State at stopping 3rd down conversions, and hasn't faced a better red zone defense than Ohio State.

Buckeye78, I'm wondering how Oregon will respond to adversity given that everyone in the country seems to think all they have to do is show up and we're gonna let them do whatever they want.

Not sure where your getting this idea from. I've only read that it's your D against our O.

have you been paying attention?

When we step out on the field against the mighty ducks, our flatfooted midwestern players will be so awed by how quickly oregon comes out of the tunnel and sets up on the sideline that we're just gonna throw in the towel at that point.

Seeing as this offense is the most prolific in the history of college football, there's absolutely no way we can stop them, even by your admission. If that's the case, then we're screwed. Case in point for you though,

Last year, Oklahoma set an FBS record for the most points scored in a season, making them the most prolific offense in the HISTORY of college football. I'm not sure what the average was, but it was around or just over 50/per I think.

What happens when an explosive offense faces a defense that is not only aggressive, but is disciplined and tackles well?

They are held to 14 points and given a sad face on their report cards :(

Not to use the transitive property, (but I will) we had held texas to 14 points last year too, until the last painful seconds of the game. Similarly, Colt McCoy, who was completing over 70% of his passes, along with the texas offense, couldn't be stopped.

If you don't see all the "Ducks are gonna walk all over them, they're way to explosive on offense, there's no way the Buckeyes can keep up"

You're not paying attention.

You will be on Jan. 1.

The whole country has a nasty surprise coming. This Defense is FOR REAL and is gonna punch OU in the mouth like NO ONE HAS. Not saying we blow you out (which we might), or even win (which we will), but NO WAY YOU DOMINATE OUR DEFENSE.

Isn't going to happen, period.

Go Bucks! only a couple of days away!

Oh, and for the record, Mr. Blount demonstrated how well the ducks handle adversity so...if we frustrate the ducks early. well, I guess I just answered my own question.

Is it Friday yet? This is almost as bad as spring/summer and waiting for fall to get here so we can start football again. I'm tired of the speculation and the what ifs, lets just play the damn game and go out there and kick some Oregon ass and shut everyone up.

How about head to head competition? UO beat Purdue and USC. OSU lost to them. That is really the only way you can compare these two teams. Stats are misleading, because teams play different styles of football, injuries and other factors come in to play. Oregon and OSU have stats that are not even relevent, like OOC games. Or if you want a stat how about SOS, Oregon 6th, OSU 61st. Do you think BSU's stats are relevent considering they only beat Oregon and the rest of the WAC is full of cup cake teams? Lets face it, Oregon and Ohio St won their conferences, which are both good conferences, so by all accounts it should be a hard fought close game. This game will come down to QB play and which QB makes the right desicions the most times.

Stats are misleading but the transitive property is not? OK. :roll2: So you'd have no problem with a fan of Wake Forest (who beat Stanford, who beat Oregon) claiming that Wake (5-7) is better than Oregon?
