2010 In-state Players to Watch

Curious about something. Winton Woods QB Dominique Brown absolutely tore up the D-II state playoffs this year, and looked like a heck of an athlete in doing so. I know he committed early on to Cincy, but I never really saw much of anything on here about him. I don't think he's a QB at the next level, but he has good size and seemingly great speed. Is a Cincy offer about right for this kid, or do others think he could turn out to be something special?

When I see him I see Free Safety, all the way. 6'3", frame of a safety, good speed, thick through the middle. Could end up as a 225 lb Safety.

At Cincinnati, I see him having the possibility of playing QB.

However, when I see him, I see a more maxed out Verlon Reed. Reed has all the same qualities, but has much more room on his frame to add "good" weight. Weight you put on in a college S&C program is alot better than that put on in H.S.

At this point, I take Verlon Reed. In this case, we simply cannot take both.

I think he is going to be special...at Cincy. Brown is simply one heck of an athlete and competitor. I think he can play offense or defense (not at QB but WR), but I think he could end up at LB as well. I'm a tad more surprised some of the bigger schools haven't started throwing some offers his way. Personally I hope he sticks with Cincy if OSU doesn't offer (which I wouldn't oppose if some guys fall through).

Any insight about Youngstown Boardman WR Chase Hammonds' abilities? He just committed to Wisconsin. Last time I asked for info about a commit from Ohio here...it was Big 10 Frosh of the Year Chris Borland.

He's tall and has a nice frame, but isn't fast enough for OSU.

He got a lot of hype this year b/c of his size(6'5'ish) and his team threw to him a lot this year, especially the WR middle middle screen which they ran about 5 times a game, b/c he really was the best athlete they had on O (they had a solid team defense which let them win/stay in all of their games).

He will fit nicely at Wisconsin, b/c they really like possession wideouts and i guess thats what he will be.

Thanks for the information.

However, I think that ___ isn't fast or big enough for ___ school; is too rigid of a philosophy to have. Not that OSU are hurting in general, but everybody wants an edge. Football players are football players. The aforementioned Borland was deemed not big or fast enough for OSU, but I'm sure if given the opportunity again, Tressel would pull the trigger. Not that it would have made a difference, he was a Badger and Irish fan growing up, but the only thing it would have hurt to try was pride.

I think he's feeling just fine with newsome, not to mention 5-star Simon exceeding expectations and talented redshirts in fellows and bellamy.

Jamel Turner was coming in the next class, Steve MIller the year after, etc.

There is too much talent and too few scholarships to take every ohioan.

If he had it to do all over again, he'd do the same thing.
