2010 In-state Players to Watch

Michael's a great corner and great kid (4.3 GPA and whatnot), but he's only 5'6ish. If he had better size he might have gotten some lower level BCS offers.

Kody's an option QB, who might move to RB at Navy, but he will certainly have a good understanding of the offense.

Walnut Hills senior kicker to Illinois
Posted by mdyer February 22nd, 2010, 12:26 pm

Walnut Hills senior kicker/punter Brad Janitz has committed to Illinois as a preferred walk-on, according to Walnut Hills coach George Kontsis.

Janitz, who is 6-5 and 210 pounds, handled all the kicking and punting for the Eagles this past season. He was 2 of 2 on field goals, 15 of 16 on extra points and routinely put kickoffs in the end zone, according to Kontsis. As a punter, he averaged 35 yards per kick (net) on 29 attempts for 1,015 yards.

"The kicker for Illinois will be a senior for the 2010 season," Kontsis said in an e-mail. "Coach (Ron) Zook feels like Brad could replace him when he graduates and earn a scholarship position his sophomore (season)."

21-13 victory breaks tie in all-star series

As much as they can be in an out-of-season game that counts for nothing, bragging rights were on the line Thursday in the 35th Southwestern Ohio Football Coaches Association/Ron Woyan East-West High School All-Star Game.

The series was tied, 17-17, after three straight wins by the East, which was determined to maintain the streak.

"We talked about that for all 10 days of practice," said Madeira's Mike Shafer, who coached the East team. "We wanted to keep the streak alive."
