TP's game vs Illinois and now Denards game vs MSU will both be hits toward their campaign. Even though Denard still put up some numbers, the three picks will hurt.


No, right now, if anyone is in the "drivers seat" it's James out at Oregon. Then that Martinez kid at Nebraska.

Well, Denard lost, and Pryor didn't. As others have pointed out, Denard's good games didn't include a D as good as Da U, or a bad weather game.

I don't think Pryor is the front runner as of now, but I do think his hype pushes his expectations a bit higher. The HT is rarely won by a few big games, it is usually awarded for a consistent performance over an entire season. If TP and the Buckeyes win out, he will have a good chance, even over the best players from Pac-10 or Big-12 teams, because the Big Ten is proving to be the better conference, so far.

Shoelaces' game against the Illini will settle a lot of arguments, I'm guessing in favor of TP.

that's the biggest driver, i'll agree with that. Doesn't help that Miami lost again. They may be a bit overrated and could lose again and fall out of the top 25 by seasons end.

I thought it was a longshot last year for Suh to get invited to NY and wasn't Ingram a Soph? I agree it might be a longshot but the next 3 weeks with the Huskers facing Texas and two top 25 opponents (Mizzou and Okie State) this is certainly an open stage for T. Magic to give his credentials.

Not if he has 19 fewer TDs than Tebow. TDs > yards

And if his team has 5-6 losses, no way he wins. He has ridiculous numbers because his team blows. If Pryor plays every snap every week, I'd imagine he'd have some pretty stupid numbers himself (probably comparable total yardage to Denard). And he still has more TDs than Denard.

(Not saying TP is the leading candidate, just using him as an example because I'm most familiar with him)

But he threw 3 picks in the biggest game of his career. I'll reserve judgment when he faces defenses even tougher than Michigan State's in the coming weeks.

And the fact that his team isn't that great only makes him more impressive IMO and I think voters opinions too

I was referring to the "best season ever" claim. But, leading the nation in rushing doesn't win you games. TP could have 20 yards every week, but if he scores 4 TDs, that's fine. TDs > yards. Period.

And Denard threw three picks in the biggest game of his career, as someone else said. If he keeps doing that against solid defenses, I don't care how many yards he has. He was part of the reason they lost against MSU. Heisman winners don't take part in losses. They win.

Denard could have 2000 yards rushing and 2000 yards passing but if in the Ohio State game he puts up similar numbers to Troy Smith in the NC game he's not even close to sniffing the Heisman. Overall stats aren't the be all end all. Now I don't think either of the cases in this scenario are the the faintest bit likely but still it goes to show what could happen.
