2010 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Michigan's defense is so bad that it makes their own QB look better.

:so:

I was referring to the "best season ever" claim. But, leading the nation in rushing doesn't win you games. TP could have 20 yards every week, but if he scores 4 TDs, that's fine. TDs > yards. Period.

And Denard threw three picks in the biggest game of his career, as someone else said. If he keeps doing that against solid defenses, I don't care how many yards he has. He was part of the reason they lost against MSU. Heisman winners don't take part in losses. They win.

I would argue 19 tds playing QB for a top 5 team and blowing most every one out is much much less impressive then having 17 tds while playing in close games. Its just a matter of opinion.

Obviously he can't throw 3 picks every week. IMO if he leads the nation in rushing its a 1000% lock and it will be one of the widest margins ever.

Even if he gets 1800 rushing yards but doesn't lead the nation and his passing yards are above average(they are well above average now) he is a 99% lock.

Guarantee you his numbers are going to drop off. It's obvious that he's not going to continue to do what he did in the first 5 games. So this debate is pointless. He won't rush for 1,800 yards.

All he needs to do is run for 134 yards a game in the next 6 games before yesterday he was averaging 181. 1800 rushing yards is very likely.

That's the thing. It will be tough for him to do that. Look at the defenses he has left. They aren't UMASS and Bowling Green from here on out. The easiest team they will play will be Penn State. You've got Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, hell even Purdue. These are schools that actually have athletes on their team. Did you see Robinson last year? It's not like he got faster, and he was in their games last year too, just not as much. Just watch, he's gonna get bottled up and forced to throw a lot from here on out. Bye Bye heisman.

Once again, he put up those video game numbers against one of the siftest schedules in the nation. Saturday, he finally faced a decent (not great, mind you...decent) defense and his numbers, though still good overall, came back to earth. His schedule continues to get more difficult the rest of the year. Not sure why you can't grasp that he's not going to continue to average huge numbers. MSU showed the blueprint...containment and pressure to force him into bad decisions. You watch too much e!spn. It's gonna keep happening. Name the bet.

What blue print? Hope Michigan drops 7 or 8 passes? Every team has tried to contain him keep him in pocket blah blah. Michigan doesn't drop 7-8 passes(at least 3 would have been long tds) and Robinson doesn't miss 2-3 routine throws Michigan makes it a shoot out.

Stop it already. DR fattened up his stats against absolutely [censored] poor defenses. MSU has a decent defense and DR reverted back to his normal self--not even coming close to dominating a game, and shooting his team in the foot by throwing 3 picks. From here on out, he'll face even better defenses. Do you think a QB is going to win the Heisman when he throws three picks a game?

Eric Crouch is on line 3

We get it. You like swinging from hairstring's jock strap (NTTAWWT). The rest of us are looking at the upcoming schedule he will face and see that he will only face better defenses, as well as the fact that upcoming teams have a ton of film on the kid now and can gameplan to bottle him up.

Is he still in the race? Sure, along with about 20 other players right now.

Will he be invited to NYC? IMO, no, but feel free to think otherwise, it is your right.

Now, stop with "I AM SO RIGHT AND YOU ALL ARE TOTALLY WRONG" crap and let's see how this plays out. M-kay? :wink2:

You're kidding with this, right? What you're essentially saying is Michigan would've made it a contest if they hadn't had any incompletions or turnovers. Well, tough shit! WRs drop passes. QBs miss routine throws. It happens. You overcome, go to the next play, and win anyway.

Unless you're Michigan, where the margin for error was already established as being razor-thin.

I very much disagree. Robinson has played in 5 4-quarter close games + 1 quarter against BG. Pryor has played in 4 blowouts (~3 quarters), plus 2 full games, one of those being in poor weather conditions. UM's offense, which completely revolves around Robinson, has been going full bore every possession. OSU's has buttoned it up in the 2nd half against Marshall, OU, and Indiana, as well as most of the game against Illinois.

If OSU's defense was as bad as Michigan's and OSU knew they had to have touchdowns almost every possession, Pryor's numbers would be even better than they are.

Were the 3 boneheaded intereceptions that played a major role in the loss the results of drops? It's easy to complete little five yard tosses, throwing 15-20 yards downfield, which he's gonna start having to do, is a little more difficult. Granted, he did have the one nice throw dropped prectically at the goalline, but he was misfiring an awful lot on anything other than those quick 3-5 yard darts. And the blueprint is to play good assignment football (which the D's he's about to begin facing regularly are capable of doing) and make him beat you with his arm. His longest run was 16 yards Saturday. He was largely contained on the ground as evidenced by scUM's 3rd down conversion rate (which was astronomical until Saturday).

MSU's defense is just decent...Wiscy, Iowa and Ohio State are all considerably better and Illinois and possibly PSU are on par. What you saw Saturday is what you're about to start seeing regularly. He's a good young qb and possibly a better kid, but he feasted on horrific defenses for over a month and learned what a real defense is last weekend. He'll still put up solid numbers because he is their entire offense, but his 200/200 days are over (except maybe vs. Purdue). He may well finish with 2300-2500 yards passing and 1500 yards rushing, but he's gonna make some costly mistakes and on a 7-5/8-4 team, that won't win the Heisman when QBs like Martinez, Moore and Pryor are putting up hefty numbers on National Title contenders. Like I said, stop watching e!spn.
