Welcome to another year of Ohio State Basketball. As you can see, I have a made a few but minor changes to the design of the site. The biggest change is the web link. Instead of Buckeyefastbreak.com, you will be able to connect to the site via Ronstokesfastbreak.com. As always we thank our great sponsor WOW! Internet Cable and Phone. Without them, this site would not be possible.
I had the opportunity to watch this year?s team, practice on several occasions over the last few weeks. My immediate take away is that there is a blend of experience and flat out raw talent. The two most popular questions that were asked of me by fans were: who will handle the point guard duties now that Evan Turner is gone; and who would the starting five consist of. I will answer both questions with one answer. I believe that Coach Matta will go with the three seniors, William Buford and Jared Sullinger, which would put David Lighty at the point for now.
Although David Lighty has rarely played this position at the college level, he did play quite a bit during his high school career at Villa Angela-St. Joseph. I know, I know? high school is different from college, but keep in mind that Matta has done an outstanding job in putting players in certain positions to succeed.
Back in the fall of 2006, I thought that Jamar Butler -after coming off a sophomore season when he was third team ?All Big Ten? ? would be the starting point guard instead of Michael Conley Jr. Boy was I wrong. There were doubters on whether a turnover prone Evan Turner could adequately lead a team. A Big Ten regular and tournament championship plus a Naismith Player of the year honor later, again proved that Thad knows his players? potential better than anyone.
Remember that there are two ends of the floor and what Ohio State may lack offensively at the point position, could be made up with their defense. Jon Diebler, Lighty, and William Buford are all 6-5 or taller. That length on the perimeter, alongside Dallas Lauderdale who led the Big Ten in Blocks could be very intimidating. Oh, by the way, Sullinger will be in the middle taking up space as well.
