2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

2009:
Campbell (no OSU offer, but he's a top caliber recruit. Look at what your own people say in the William Campbell thread)
Lalota
Turner
Emilien

2009:
Marvin Robinson

To say you get a win for Campbell, Turner and Robinson is like saying you should get a win for a 100 yard dash when you have a 50 yard head start.

Lalota will be a OL. The only people that don't that are you and Lalota. ( And by the way I count RR among the people that do know)

I give you Emilien, but as jwins points out, even that is a little complicated.

I do think Roh will be a nice pick up for you.

Pretty much. Not surprised at all.
This. If you're opening with Georgia or Oklahoma State or even Wake Forest you come out with the name first. If you're opening with UConn you come out with the "It's a BCS school" first.

I actually forgot about them having a football program, or that would have been my guess instead of Syracuse.

I'm reading that UM will open the 2010 season against UCONN. Beano Cook on his ESPN chat mentioned it. It appears to be all but confirmed right now. Can't say I'm thrilled with the matchup. Better than some, but quite a bit to be desired. I was hoping for something a little more marquee since it was rumored that they were looking at teams that had to juggle an existing game to open up that date. Oh, and it's supposed to be a home and home, for what it's worth.

M*ch*g*n is going to UConn?!

I'm surprised you call 2008 "outstanding". I actually prefer the 2009 class.
Fitzgerald, Koger, Stonum, Martin, Cissoko, Smith were all major pickups. McGuffie, Odoms, Shaw, Omameh, Witherspoon were all good next tier pickups. Outstanding is probably a bit strong (pretty good works better), but he set RR up with a lot of young 3-4 contributors in that class.
Players not "gift wrapped" by Carr, and who there's no way anyone could call "gimmes":

2008:
Barnum
Feagin (grrrrr)
J.T Floyd [mixed reviews]
Odoms
Omameh
Robinson [mixed reviews]
Roundtree
Michael Shaw
Kevin Koger
Why is Koger on this list? That list has some nice steals, but is all offense other than Floyd (who is so-so), which was my point.
That hurts, though. Like rubbing salt in relatively fresh wounds. Should I bring up Ben Martin and Tennessee? And Fred Davis? Feel the pain!
I'm not aware of any prospect named Ben Martin. Then again after December it all gets hazy :p
But you bring up a good point. RichRod may have "lost" Nick Perry to USC in 2008. I don't know if I buy it, since Nick Perry was very tightlipped, and there's certainly no indication at all that Carr "had" him before RichRod came to town. But someone could argue that he was a "gimme" that wasn't signed.
I don't mean he failed where Lloyd would not have done so, I just mean no USC battle is a gimme. They've actually gone in the other direction too many times lately.

The sensible tsun fans, all joking aside I know there are plenty, HAVE to see what he's doing to them. He's turning the all time winningst program/Harvard of the West yadda yadda yadda into a second rate mid major.

A very good friend of mine while growing up chose the dark side. We've recently had a few discussions about tsun and yeah, you pretty much summed up his feelings. Die hard he is, won't give up those season tickets even tho he lives in Columbus, but sees the situation for what it is.

Being one who wants to have a competitive tsun program, that we consistently stomp into the ground, I do have some mercy for those see the situation for what it is.

Just my nature I guess. Kind of like geese, those tsun fans are. I can hate 'em all fucking day long, chase 'em with golf clubs and hit balls at 'em, but when push comes to shove... I still couldn't drive my car over one of 'em if they were in the middle of the road.

Stadium capacity 40,000....wow. Can anybody even remember the last time OSU or any other marquee team played a non-conference game in a stadium that small?

Texas will play at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyoming on September 12th.

Capacity 32,580.

They got a 2-for-1 deal there (away-home-home in "Mili-speak"), but I'm still surprised they agreed to that.

Looks like DE Marcus Rush is a silent UM commit right now. From mgoblog:

DE Marcus Rush's coach may have let the cat out of the bag in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal this morning. When asked to speak about one of his rising Junior prospects, Coach John Rodenberg said:

"The one thing he's got is every day in practice, he's going against a kid who's going to sign with Michigan, and the other (defensive tackle) is only a junior who already has been offered by N.C. State," Rodenberg said. The senior is Marcus Rush, the junior is Jesse Hayes. "Marcus hasn't committed to Michigan," Rodenberg said. "He's either going to commit to Michigan, Virginia or Michigan State. Jesse will probably get offers from every school in the country by next year."

Problem is, UConn is actually good enough to beat Michigan right now, even without Donald Brown. Of course, they're no Toledo or Appalachian State, but then again, who else is?

Of course it is a Big East team. Obviously, it's no harder to coach in the Big Ten than the Big East. Even better, Rich Rodriguez has Greg Robinson now.

At least DickRod knows who his spread offense will work against. Hard to blame the guy! 66-21 w/ 42 second half points.

I personally wouldn't cross the street to piss on scUM nation if they were laying in the gutter with their collective guts on fire BUT if I were a little more sensitive I would feel bad for the arrogant bastards.

That said, sensitive isn't something I'm often accused of being. Fuck M*ch*gan.

+1

Washington State has also been to a Rose Bowl or two and were a decent team on the national level when that was scheduled. Until they lost Mike Price, a win in Pullman would've actually meant something, so the Buckeyes would've had some sort of return for playing out there, even in front of a small crowd.

I know UConn has had a relatively fast rise from I-AA to the Big East, but I would hope that if the Buckeyes scheduled a road game like that they would buy it out unless the opponent somehow quickly became a powerful team, which I don't think is gonna happen w/ UConn.

Syracuse? They play football?
