2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

And it will be what the fall of 2010 before he shows up to help and then is just another talented true freshman getting ready to feel some growing pains? 2010 OSU team looks to be loaded and The Game is in Columbus. Ask Henne how that works for freshmen QB's.

I think by 2010, all the offensive pieces (OL, RB, WR) should be in place for Gardner to have some controlled success if he does unseat Tate. I do think he will play as a freshman. I really think his talents will be too hard for Rodriguez to keep off the field. Forcier can make some minimal plays with his feet, but he doesn't have the athletic ability to make a defense pay with a 50 yard TD run like Gardner does.

I think Tate is a good talent, but I'm not quite as crazy about him as most Michigan fans are, and I'm going to play the wait and see game in regards to him.

I AM crazy about Devin Gardner though. I think he can really become something special in this spread option offense (or whatever you want to call it) if he is surronded by the right players.

Gardner is not making Detroit level competition pay for many 50 yard runs.

He's a talented dual-threat, but he's not a dominant runner.

Please stop saying "by the way" every 4 sentences.I don't think his film looks like a 4.5 guy. It takes him a little while to cover ground and he doesn't pull away from the defenders very well. Perhaps his senior film will change that.
I have no idea what value this adds.:so:
Gardner has the chance to be a very good QB. I think his junior film showed an above average runner, not a great one... but combined with his size, arm strength and RR's system, he can develop nicely.

BTW, I'll say BTW as much as I damn well please, thank you.

As far as his JR film goes, he certainly looks like a 4.5 guy to me with that long stride and deceptive speed. His performance at the Scout.com Cincinnati Combine where he did in fact run a 4.57- 40 on what was described as a slow-surface, says that he is in fact a legit 4.5-40 type athlete.

If you have no idea what value his accomplishments as a high school football player adds to his evaluation as a prospect than, wow, I just don't know what to say.

What I was implying by bringing up Gardner's accomplishments as a high school football player, is that Gardner is not like a Robert Bolden or a Joe Boisture who have rankings based off of measurables, potential, and camp settings. Unlike players with obvious potential and talent but no production- like Bolden and Boisture- Gardner has actually proven himself in actual football games. If he in anyway replicates his JR year as a SR, you are looking at a QB that will have accounted for nearly 100 TD's in just two seasons.

I believe the film you are referring to must be his Soph. film, because if you have actually watched his JR. film and came to the conclusion that he is only an "above average" runner, well then, you are as blind as Stevie Wonder.

Good grief, you're a piece of work. Instead of coming on a tOSU board and being a complete tool, why don't you stick to the scout boards where your type fits in better. :roll1:

1) Gardner doesn't play against Detroit competition.

2) His 1,400+ yards rushing and 20+ scores on the ground as a JR. suggests that he is a dominant running QB.

1) He was at camp

2) HS numbers don't always automatically translate to big time CFB. He's dominant because he's as big as most HS LB's and some HS DL. That won't be the case in the Big-Ten.

He's a good runner, but not in the league of a VY or even a TP. I don't see the shear speed you do in his film. It's certainly enough for plenty of escapability, but not the type to rip off long runs on a regular basis against D-1 defenses.

What new found love of Gardner are you referring to?

I think Michigan fans have been crazy over Gardner from day 1.

There is A LOT to like there by the way.

Now, in no way do I think he's as good as Terrelle Pryor was in high school, but I do think that he is about as close as you can get short of Pryor himself.

Gardner is definitely super-talented and a legit QB, and IMO unless Tate just lights the world on fire this year it'll be almost impossible for him to hold Gardner at bay come 2010.
The new found love of michigan fans jerking off over every elite11 update.

but my question has been answered. next year, tater tot will play the first 4 games, robinson/gardner will play the next 4 after tater gets hurt, and the other one will finish it out after he gets hurt. no need to worry about a 13th game.

Me likey Michigan fans. They funny.

What about Denard Robinson? I thought he's fast and a good passer as well?

So Tate Forcier is Savior 1a
Denard Robinson is 1b
and Gardner is #2. At least until he arrives on campus. Then I get real confused! Eleventy.

Here we go again. Funny how its always the kid actually the farthest from playing that gets scUM fans all worked up.

Already laying the ground work for the back peddle on Tater Tot so they can spend the next 12 months running their mouths about the next wonderkid recruit.

Bad news is the season starts soon. On the field results tend to take the wind out of the sails of fans who live for off season self delusion.

Try nearly 300 more yards and nearly 10 more TDs on the ground as a junior (Pryor)...now that's dominant. Oh yeah, let's see if Gardner can get 1,900 yards and 36 TDs rushing in his senior year like Pryor did while leading his team to a state title. Somehow I doubt it...
