2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

two underthrown balls landing right on the defender... both the #1 defense & #2 defense both feature DBs panicking and simply trying to interfere (including cissoko) with the WR rather than turning and picking off the pass. Result: two tds.

of course that has to be taken with a humongous grain of salt considering it has been #1 versus #2 all day
The RBs are getting 7-15 yards upfield without being touched or making any moves. This defense has taken a big step back so far, and it wasn't very good last year.

 Everyone assumes someone else is going to tackle Grady, and he somehow emerges from a mob of people and runs for a TD. It just keeps getting uglier vs the run.

Will Tate be wearing long sleeves in the fall as well?

Only watched for 10 minutes or so, but the few important things I learned:
1) The offense is better. I have little doubt that it will be better than last year- maybe even significantly so- and in a few years (if RR is still around), it will be quite good.
2) The defense is outrageously offensive. I'm not talking "bad", or "really bad", or "awful". I'm talking an embarrassment to football. The most glaring mistake I saw was simple attack angles, from every position on the defense. They still can't tackle. And they aren't even that athletic. It's simply atrocious. Like the offense, I'm sure it will improve... But I can't see any way we don't put up at least 42 again on them this year.

I don't even think that you can gather very much from that game. The defense looked terrible, the offense looked okay, but how much of that is them actually being okay and how much is the defense being awful? The first time that offense plays a defense with a pulse they are not going to know what to do, they certainly don't face much of a challenge in practice from week to week.

Also, someone should go through and find out how many dual threat quarterbacks they face, because just like in years past, they are going to cause serious problems for that defense. Switching your defense to three down lineman because you are so thin in the trenches is one thing, but that combined with your back eight not being able to tackle, consistently taking horrible angles, and over pursuing on almost every single play is going to be hilarious to watch, even against teams that don't have a dual threat quarterback.

Also, Cone is awful (Threet 2.0 at best) and in the extremely likely scenario that they have injury problems at QB they are in serious trouble once again.

The "official" attendance that was announced to the crowd: 50,000 people.
they didn't sell tickets, correct? so that number is almost certainly from someone saying, "the stadium looks half full... 50,000 people are here" (I'm sure that exactly 50,000 people showed up :roll2:) which is flawed since people are infinitely more spread out for spring games than when they are sardined in for real games (like Jwins said)

#2 should make anybody very skeptical about #1. I just cannot grasp how a major program like tsun can be so awful on defense. It's not a system thing either, they are just deplorable with simple fundamentals. If I'm Greg Robinson, I'm wondering just what the hell I've gotten myself into.
