2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Another Forcier on the street | mgoblog
As reported by InsideUCLA, Chris Forcier (brother to Jason and Tate) has requested his release from UCLA. Interesting that he and Jason both requested releases from their programs this year. Anyone know what the plans are in the family?
Am i the only one it worries that for all three being raised to be quarterbacks there entire lives not one has been the starter at the program they joined. Maybe Tate will change that since his only competition is someone who doesnt even have a playbook yet.
For those keeping track at home:

2004 - UM signed Jason Forcier, who had a BP thread.
2007 - UM released Jason Forcier to Stanford.
2009 - Stan releases Jason Forcier after poor play.

2007 - Chris Forcier signs with UCLA.
2008 - A rash of QB injuries forces a walkon to start and lose, moving ND to 1-5 on the year. No action for Chris.
2009 - UCLA releases Chris Forcier... (to UM?)

2008 - Tate verbals to UM after Newsome backs out of his verbal
2009 - Tate signs with UM as the only decent QB on roster in the spring

The other irony here is all the Clausen family bashing that UM (& OSU) fans enjoyed during his recruitments, pointing out how the elder Clausens were washouts (though better than the elder For-see-air's).

I just have trouble watching Woody speak about Bo at a banquet shortly before Woody's death (as seen on the HBO special on the rivalry) and not think that all of the hatred and bravado aimed at Michigan from Woody wasn't at least partially an act to motivate his players or to increase interest in the rivalry or for some other end only known by Woody.

The amount of respect and admiration that Woody clearly had for Bo is incredible and I have a hard time believing that if Woody truly hated Michigan as much as you older folk seem to think he did that he would be able to admire and respect Schembechler as much as he clearly did.

I think Mili made an important distinction. Woody hated the whole state of Michigan. Absolutely hated it. When you are prepared to push your car to get to the state line rather than spend a dime in a state. It's hatred.

I might add that it was not put on and it was not in his interest. Woody was consumed by hatred of TSUN to the point that the media constantly stuck him with pins just trying to evoke his emotional response. In the end, his emotions are what did him in.

The warmth toward Bo started first from Bo. Don't forget that Bo was a Woody assistant and he took a playbook or two to TSUN that helped him get that first upset. Woody was livid that someone he supported and mentored would end up at the place Bo would know would show the greatest disloyalty to Woody. Bo admired Woody and respected what Woody had done to develop him. And, Bo controlled his emotions much better.

Bo could never have wanted to see Woody come to his end as a result of punching some kid in a bowl game. Whether he has become your rival or not, whether he spits hatred of you and your team or not, nobody wants to see a mentor who they respect get completely disrespected and dishonored as Woody was by that firing.

When Woody was fired, when the whole world turned away from him, Bo reached out to him. As he looked back on his career, Woody realized that the war with Bo was the finest part of his career. That is why Woody showed him the respect and friendship you saw in that excerpt. It developed after the playing days were over.

I'll say one other thing. As much as most folks around here proclaim their hatred for TSUN, I'm willing to bet that if they found themselves in a foxhole in Afghanistan and there were ten guys in there with them, over time it would be the guy from Michigan that would become a friend, because he would be the guy who understood the significance of The Game.

Now, let's make a deal. You can be the expert on hip-hop. There are people here who knew Woody, took classes from him, or met him. Just about anyone over 50 who grew up in Columbus would have seen him on TV more than twenty times a year ("Now Jim [Otis], what do we do in that instance? That's right. Level off. Level off. That's how you get the most yardage."). Let's not presume that because you saw an excerpt on ESPN that you understand the man better than we did, okay.

We'll give you hip-hop and Generation Y. Leave Woody to us.

If I hate the TSUN cat, what does that mean?

One of the first things Bo received in the hospital following his heart attack at the 1969 Rose Bowl was a letter from Woody Hayes.

With all due respect, kiss my ass. I don't like hip-hop and I don't know what the fuck generation y is. Am I not allowed to study and understand the Roman Empire just because I wasn't alive then? Jim Tressel came to my high school and spoke while he was still the coach at YSU, I shook the mans hand, does that mean I know him any better than anyone else on this board? Absolutely not.

Like I said to Mili, you can think whatever you want about Woody, but so can I. Maybe being alive at the time gives you a unique perspective on the man, but aren't most things best understood looking back after the fact?

Like you said, lets get back to talking about TSUN and mocking their recruiting, but this whole 'I was alive then and therefore , I know better than you' attitude is ridiculous. I don't understand how watching an interview on TV or even taking a class with the man is any better than reading what his players and the people who knew him best have to say about Woody many years later after thinking their whole lives about what the man stood for and what he had meant to them.

Half the people on this board grew up wanting to play for Woody. They all sing from the same sheet of music where Woody is concerned.

But that's no match for youthful arrogance.

You win.

I wouldn't say I win just yet, senile stubbornness is a tough nut to crack :wink2:

just one last volley here though, does growing up wanting to be an astronaut automatically make you an expert on astrology? or more specifically, an expert on how Galileo felt about Jupiter?

okay, I'm done
