2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

It's going to be interesting to see how they use wideouts next year, particularly if Tate returns as an experienced starter. So far RR inherited Stonum and had a legacy in Ricardo, but he needs to utilize that talent for more than blocking or misdirection passes.

Will they develop into weapons in this offense? Or will Stonum still have to wait for kickoffs to get the football? Outside of MSU & ND's atrocious defenses, Stonum caught 0, 1, DNP, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, DNP, 1 passes in each game.

Roundtree looks like big time. Stonum is going to be solid. Without Tater hitting the midseason wall next year, expect the offense to be pretty solid. Of course, defense will be their downfall.

Roundtree looks good. Big time's a bit much at this point.
Stonum is going to be solid.
Stonum does not get the football.
Without Tater hitting the midseason wall next year
Tate hit the 'not playing WMU & ND's awful defenses' wall. I'd really like to see how he'd run a passing spread instead of one that requires him to take routine shots to his slender frame. While the offense may become more effective through the air, it's pretty clear that RR is committed to a running system. Next year he'll finally have the size to do it with Devin.

You know what they say. Big time players perform brilliantly in big time games. Roundtree's big game against us was actually an extension of end of the year hot streak, with 400 yds of his 434 total coming in the last four games.

Agreed Stonum doesn't get the ball, but with better pass pro and one more year under Tater's belt, you better believe that he and Koger are going to get more touches.

There's a freshman wall that almost all freshmen go through. Especially one that the whole offense relies upon. Will be interesting to see how he does, but if history offers any clue, the jump between first and second year is usually significant, especially when there's a good surrounding cast coming back.

I think he's showed plenty of promise, but we're not talking about dominating like Braylon did. I guess that's my definition of big time.

No, I don't. It's not the protection that is stopping them from getting the ball. It's the clearing routes, blocking assignments, and focus on the guys off the LOS that gives him OSU TE level production.

That progression also varies significantly based on where they are as a player. If they are still struggling with basic QB skills (Pryor), that doesn't necessarily happen. Conversely, if you've been coached professionally for a decade, there's always the risk that you're closer to your ceiling than many freshmen.

Rich does not have the time to start over with another freshman at Qb. It's put up or shut up time!

I agree with Jwins big time here. RR offenses haven't had an impressive passing attack since his Clemson days, and I don't even know how impressive that was as far as scheme. Everything I've seen of him at UM and everything at WVU makes me believe he wants to run his specific vision of his system no matter what.

That means Koger/Roundtree/Stonum aren't going to get the ball that much.

Agreed, but if Devin can run the zone read, he may just do that unless Tater can turn in ND/MSU outings all season long.

When you make Threet a read option QB, as well as a frail finesse freshman passer, it makes it hard to argue otherwise.

I think Roundtree was used in the slot, however.

Then he needs to put the for sale sign up.

Hat off... well said. If you guys end up on QB3 in 3 like that he may as well go all in (sorry) holding a pair of threes and jack high. QBs are supposed to ride pine for their first couple of years... not their last couple of years (before transfering).

I know that this may really happen... but still I have to scratch my head and ask w.t.f.

TROUBLED CISSOKO: If former Michigan cornerback Boubacar Cissoko is trying to return to the Wolverines, he's not making things easy.

U-M coach Rich Rodriguez said last week Cissoko has a lot of academic work to do first.

And Cissoko seems to be in trouble in the courts. According to Ann Arbor court records, he was cited on Nov. 19 for driving with an invalid or improper license. He failed to appear before Magistrate Margaret Currie at his Dec. 23 arraignment, so a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
