2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

My Michigan dong has been punched so many times
It's officially female.
My new course for hope: a hell of a lot of patience, with Mike Stoops/Arizona results. Forget dreams of national prominence in 2010 or 2011, but there is still reason to believe that Rodriguez will get the program where we want it to be, given time. There is also little reason to believe that a coaching change would lead to immediately improved results; the issues with the program will take some time, whether with Coach Rod or Coach X.
(Ask me again this time next year if I'm still willing to be that patient).

Michigan Recruiting Classes- Transfers/Dismissed

2008- Cissoko, O'Neill, Brandon Smith, Taylor Hill, Sam McGuffie, Marcus Witherspoon, Justin Feagin, Kurt Wermers. (8 out of 24 players that year)

2007- Ryan Mallet, Toney Clemons, Zion Babb, Artis Chambers, Avery Horn, Marell Evans, Vince Hellmuth. (7 out of 20 players)

2006- Justin Boren, Jason Kates, Cobrani Mixon, Quintin Patilla, Quintin Woods, (5 out of 19)

2005 class had a lot of busts, some transfers, and some injuries that hampered some good players. Antonio Bass could have been a special player and had All American potential. He would have been a perfect fit to run the spread.

From the 2006-2008 classes there were 20 transfers/dismissed players out of 63 players. Defense doesn't have many bodies and we have a few walk ons as starters or backups. It would be nice to keep a few players, but hey what do I know. Can't blame them for wanting to go somewhere else and win.

Zwem...I am sure that was painful for you to share. That is some startling information right there.

And I just have to ask you: As a UM fan do you see something happening in the program that makes you think everything is heading the right way?

As an outsider I can't help but wonder if there is a plan...a direction. It looks so chaotic..I just think RR is in over his head and doesn't know what to do next.

I don't see any development or direction that indicates he is working toward turning the corner. Instead things appear to be regressing.

Am I being hasty when I say I think it is clear the RR hire has been a disaster for both Rich and UM?

The D, as bad as it was...looks to be even worse next year..and I just don't see the influx of recruiting talent needed to make it better. There is a hole that looks to be about 3 years big on defense...and it will take several strong classes to fix it..and I don't think the next incoming class helps much...nor do I see an emphasis from the staff on bringing in big time defensive players.

The O still looks unsettled and lost to me. No established QB and you will be losing some quality talent at RB. It is clear to me now that RR is a one trick pony..with no idea how to adapt or modify his system to suit the talent..and I don't see the necessary talent...nor do I think that one trick is as impressive as it was 5 years ago.

If you were the AD...what would you do?

Would you give him another year? If so..what does he need to do in 2010 to keep his job? Would you be putting feelers out NOW to selected HC candidates to see if there is any interest..and if there was..would you pull the trigger and change horses? What if Harbaugh, Kellly, or Urban..or what ever HC looks good to you... said they would take the job right now?

UM just looks like a cat trapped in a cardboard box right now with no idea how to get out. If you disagree please educate me about what I am not seeing/perceiving.

Not technically a transfer, but wouldn't Marquis Maze look good in a Michigan uniform right now? Was an early commitment for Michigan in the class of 2007, then he started looking around a bit and Carr dropped him. This season, he had 25 receptions for 423 yards (16.9 average) and 2 TD's for the run-dominated Alabama offense. At 5' 10", 180 lbs, with excellent quickness, he could've been perfect in RichRod's spread.

Then again, he might have transferred out by now anyway....

I was just going to write that until I read it

WR recruiting is going to be tough for UM to do nowadays, at least with the top flight guys. Michigan is going to have to prove that they can truly showcase their wide receivers for any of the big time recruits to think about going there.

The number of players on those lists are cause for concern. But if you sort the 25 man class from 2008 by Scout's national ranking, that is UMs #1, #2, #4, #6 and #10 recruits. For 2007 it includes their #1, #3 and #7.

And don't forget the commits who didn't sign.

I want michigan to be good all year and then beat them. I think the best chance to have a dominant team again (most quickly and consistantly) is to hire Harbaugh.

Regardless of my opinion the real question is;do michigan fans want RR to "succeed" next year? What if they go 8-4 or 9-3 and look decent i get the feeling there may be a lot of disapointment and the "now what" haze. You are still stuck with a guy who has lost 20 players to transfers and has the first major NCAA investigation in football, rips on players, is whiny, and is on the boarder of blaming players for losses...

The only way this is resolved next year is if they go 5-7 or 11-1. I don't think 2 years is enough to assess on field potential but it is plenty long enough to judge wether this is the person you want running the program.

Wolverines anxiously await three upcoming announcements from recruits | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Chula Vista (Calif.) Eastlake linebacker Tony Jefferson and Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon wide receiver Kenny Stills made their official visits to Michigan on the same weekend and now they will make their college selections at the same venue. The 6-0, 196-pound Jefferson and the 6-2, 180-pound Stills are set to announce their college selections this Friday, Dec. 18, on KUSI TV in San Diego at 9 p.m. PT.

Jefferson, ranked as the No. 49 player in the country by Rivals.com, will select between USC, Oklahoma and Michigan. Stills, the nation?s No. 135 overall prospect, has Florida, Oklahoma and Michigan as his finalists.

.....

The day following Stills? and Jefferson?s announcements, Millersville (Md.) Old Mill athlete Josh Furman will announce his college selection at the Maryland Crab Bowl. Furman is unable to play in the Crab Bowl due to a sprained Posterior Cruciate Ligament, but he was selected to play in the event and will still be in attendance to announce his college decision.

The 6-3, 194-pound [linebacker] Furman narrowed his list of finalists to Michigan and Virginia Tech in November. He has also said that his decision is already made, and he is just waiting to reveal the selection until the day of the Crab Bowl.
http://mgoblog.com/

Furman's decision, between UM and Virginia Tech, is expected to go in favor of the Wolverines.

....

Jefferson is supposed to be a package deal with CA WR Kenny Stills and has dropped Florida, leaving both players considering Oklahoma and Michigan, with Oklahoma the favorite.
