Hankins isn't really that big of a project to be honest. He's got some quickness, he's got great size, he's got great strength. He's a very good player, but his conditioning is an issue. He's listed by Rivals at 326 pounds. He's probably more like 350 pounds. If he was in better condition, like say 310 pounds, he'd have offers from everybody.
Which was my point. His work ethic has been a big question mark from the beginning. Despite um's need for DT's, they've already declined to offer him after getting a close look. The raw ability is there, whether he has the drive to utilize it is another question. Maybe "gamble" is a better label than "project".

Roh looks skinny, sure but he's a 6'4, 238 pound true frosh. Like a lot of true freshman, he needs to fill out and add 15 or 20 pounds and he will in time.
I'm just saying I don't see the same kind of body type from Roh. I'm not disputing that he should develop into a pretty good, complete player... including size.
Campbell de-committed, visited other schools. Rodriguez still had to recruit him up until the very end. Rodriguez just didn't sit on his hands and knees on that one and wait for Will to sign his LOI. He kept recruiting him, as he should have.
Campbell also "dropped" Michigan almost immediately before verballing to them. Did RR still recruit him? Sure, but that was a transparent game.
I don't know that Terrence Robinson or Roy Roundtree can be considered offensive gambles at all.
I think a 155-160 lb wr with average speed/quicks is a reach for a school like Michigan. Yes I know where they listed Roy in HS, but after seeing him in person, it was apparent that listing made Tate's look accurate. And no, I'm not willing to concede that Griffen's could have been inflated :p
I also disagree with you on Drake, because watching his high-lites and looking at the numbers he's putting up as a senior in a very tough district in Texas, that kid looks like a player.
Drake is different than Roundtree, but he's more of a sleeper than some of RR's recruits. Drake really isn't a problem, it's the volume of slots & aths taken in these classes without much beef at all for defense.
Holmes Onwukaife, and he's a 3* on Scout and Rivals in the 2010 class.
Thanks. He strikes me as the type that could grow into Graham's spot.
They already had Kinnard and Paskorz as Quick. Are they going to take a third quick?
I guess that gets to the heart of what I see from RR. He'll take more QBs, RBs & slots in a class even if he has enough. I'm not sure he'll do the same on D.

I agree with you 100%.

Even if Hankins didn't drop the weight, I could see him being an effective back-up role player as he'd likely run out of gas way too early and way too often to ever start. As a defensive tackle though, he does show good pad level, he's able to get very low despite being almost 6'4, and he uses his hands pretty well to shed blockers. I don't think he's as much a project as say Talbott. I think Talbott probably has a lot more to learn about playing defensive tackle than Hankins does, but he does bring more quickness and a better work ethic to the table. Both of them have improvments to make in the weight department, Talbott having to add 20-30 pounds minimum and Hankins having to lose that much minimum.

Wow. Great statistic from ESPN, which goes back to the reports from spring that Tate couldn't see over the line.

Penn State must keep Forcier in the pocket - Big Ten - ESPN

10+ yd Throws

In Pocket: 4-25 16% 06.8 ypa
Outside: 15-26 57% 12.7 ypa

All Throws:

Tate Outside:: 34-55 61% 14.7 ypa 3 td 2 int
Clark Outside: 16-27 59% 14.4 ypa 1 td 2 int

This doesn't really surprise me at all. Tate looks uncomfortable in the pocket right now. He's gotten himself into some trouble and has run straight into DE's by leaving the pocket and bailing on his first read too quickly and then deciding that it was time to improvise. He's only a freshman though.

TRUE FRESHMAN defensive tackle.

How many true freshman defensive tackle dominate from the word go? That is one of the hardest positions for 18/19 year old freshman to come in and play.

Admittedly this doesn't fit the definition of "dominating", but John Simon has clearly shown the ability not only to contribute as a TF at DT, but he's downright disruptive when he's in the game. It's not common for freshmen to have an impact at DT, but it happens. Just not with Will Campbell.

Campbell has shown flashes at times of being a very good player in his limited role.

Another thing to keep in mind, Simon comes in with another tackle next to him and 2 DE's in the 4-3.

Campbell comes in as the NT in a 3-4.

I think it's wayyyy too early to write off a true freshman defensive tackle. A lot of people were calling for Mike Martin to be the best DT from Michigan in some time based off of what he showed as a true freshman.

I think it is safe to say that Martin has been pretty solid this year, but he's still nowhere near that level and likely never will be. He's more than likely just a very solid starter for the rest of this year and the next 2 years.

People that follow sports just tend to overreact these days, and in a bad way I might add. I think we can blame ESPiN and their hype machine for a lot of this.

I.E., The Bachelor and the Gang rambling on and on about the death of Florida State football during the Thursday night game. A game in which Florida State mounted a comeback in the 2nd half and won.

Finally someone shares the same thoughts as me this week. This has nothing to do with UM football, but I totally agree with this point. The hyperbole going on today in college football is out of control! Everyone is either the best-ever or the worst-ever with no in between. Especially this past week concerning Ohio State and JT....I simply cannot stomach that people are calling for him to be fired. Duane Long has a coaching candidate list up on his blog. It's madness!

Sounds like Tate, the RBs and virtually the entire UM squad is as healthy as they have been in several weeks.

I don't know if they have the juice to beat PSU...but PSU needs to execute and play sharp...nits mess around and turn it over a couple of times..and miss an assignement or two and we will have a hell of a ball game....

Michigan football draws NCAA letter of inquiry

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)?University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman says the NCAA has given the school a notice of inquiry and will keep looking into allegations against the football program.
Coleman said in a statement Monday the school and NCAA will continue to work together on an ?objective investigation.?

The investigation stems from an August report in the Detroit Free Press in which anonymous players said the amount of time they spent in the Rich Rodriguez-led program during the season and in the offseason exceeded NCAA limits.

Molk is out for the year...torn ACL...ouch.

This one really sucks. Timing of this injury means that Molk will probably miss spring practice. If we're lucky he'll be ready to go in the fall. This sucks, as Molk is our best lineman by far and David Moosman is just terribly awful. How he starts is beyond me.

Rich Rodriguez is really a stubborn coach. Probably as stubborn as Lloyd.

Stubborn like a mule

A mule is like a jack ass

Therefore, RR is an ass.
