2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

The player losses from Rich's first class, 2008...

Boubacar Cissoko, CB (kicked off the team)
Marcus Witherspoon, LB (failed to qualify)
Kurt Wermers, OL (academically ineligible, transferred)
Dann O'Neill, OL (was buried on the depth chart, so he transferred)
Sam McGuffie, RB (transferred at the end of 2008 because of family issues, was a concussion waiting to happen and although was only here for a brief time, never exactly lived up to the extreme hype)
Taylor Hill, LB (transferred mid-season in 2008)
Justin Feagin, QB/WR (kicked off the team for being a drug dealer)

That's a lot of attrition from one class. Wow.

Gonna hurt even more down the road. People love to point at the attrition from the 2005/06 classes as a reason for the current struggles, well, it's setting up again. What's more, if Warren leaves after this year, who does that leave to play corner? Turner, Floyd, T. Jones (a converted RB)? That's a major dearth of experience...

Woolfolk is pretty solid at CB, so we'd be OK at one spot, but losing Warren is going to really suck. I am just hoping that he does what Marlin Jackson and Leon Hall did and say to himself, "man, I want to play one more year!".... but I doubt it.

I think we might actually be better off playing a RS Fr. Turner, RS Soph. Floyd, and a Soph. Jones in place of Cissoko next year.

As bad as Cissoko has been off the field in his short time at Michigan, he's been worse ON the field. He was not a good player. Not even close to being a good player. He was one of the worst CB's that I have ever seen at Michigan. Made Morgan Trent look like Marlin Jackson.

I thought the plan was to move Woolfolk back to safety? If he has to stay at CB, that further hurts the depth at S. Yeah, Cissoko struggled, but he was a guy a lot of people were hanging their hats on at that position. There's a lot of spinning going on right now.

Vlad Emilien will take one of those safety spots next year, IMO.

The only reason he isn't starting this year is because that knee acted up on him in fall camp and he fell behind. He's still not 100% all the way back yet. Those knee surgeries can take a good year and a half to two years before players can come all of the way back. If his the knee is healed he'll be a starter next season.

Turner could also wind up playing safety IF Donovan Warren returns.

A lot of "insiders" on the Michigan boards also seem to be very high on Thomas Gordon's prospects at safety. Many of them kept saying in the fall that out of the 4 kids we have from Cass Tech (Cissoko, Jones, Campbell, Gordon), that Gordon was the best football player and that he seemed to have the best "football IQ" of the bunch.

Well your fanbase keeps saying its another open schoalrship...my o my...your defensive recruiting is gonna fizzle down the stretch kid. Michigan has at least 2 losses coming their way...I wouldn't count out Purdue either. Your defense/team are in shambles. RR is my favorite Michigan coach of all time.

The problem isn't just having talented starters kid but depth as well. OSU lost Larimore and plugged in a good replacement. Kurt Coleman suspended and we had a good replacement. OSU's depth is amazing. You guys are starting walk-ons...plural. Without Brandon Graham you guys are 3-5 right now.

The best players on your team are leaving and the depth left over is pedestrian. Your defense is giving up 31 PPG in B10 play...ouch...explain how your defense will be better next year...I want to hear it...no excuses please.

Did he say the defense would get better?

If anything, you wouldn't think it could get much worse, but I don't really care either way.

I found this pretty funny... gee, I wonder who was responsible for building up such extremely unrealistic hype for him??
