What was he suppose to do kick a field goal with a 46 point lead? Really Winslow.

the competition was not good obviously, but I was very impressed with the young trio of RB's in Mike Shaw, Mike Cox, and Vincent Smith. Not the first time those guys have impressed me.

I think the future of RB is pretty bright. Fitzgerald Touissaint redshirted because of a shoulder injury. He probably would've been playing this year if not for the injury. I think he's going to be a pretty good player as well.

Denard made some nice throws, but still has a long way to go and I'm not sold on him at all to be honest. Tate is still "the guy".

They torched a lot of redshirts this year for garbage minutes, see stokes. I realize they are a young team right now, but I think they'd be well served to get a 5th year for some of these guys.

I always thought UM had good RBs, including shaw/smith, but it's hard to put much stock in a team that made Kelvin Grady look like Maurice Clarett.

Tate is the guy for now. We'll see what happens in their next tough game if he struggles as a passer and continues to be an average running threat, the bread and butter of this offense. I like him as a player, I just think the hook is getting shorter by the game.

Stokes red-shirt was burned far before this game. So was Smith's. Stokes and Smith were never going to red-shirt from the very beginning. Both of them played great in the fall and Rich said back then that they weren't red-shirting.

Most of the guys that burned their shirts, we pretty much needed them to play and get experience for depth and their shirts were burned long ago.

As far as our RB's go, I was impressed with Shaw, Smith, and Cox well before this game based off of what I had seen of them in spring, heard/read about them in fall, and what they did when they got spot time in previous games. All this game did was add to that a little.

As for Kevin Grady, it's not as if he is absent of talent completely. He wasn't a 5*, Top 20 player in the nation because Rivals and Scout were trying to play a prank on everybody.

Tate is still the guy, but he's still a true freshman. I think his problem is that he tries to be superman sometimes. The hook is getting shorter because he's making some really stupid risky throws, he's mis-handling the ball, making bad reads on the zone-read, or he's bailing on plays and his first read too early and running out of the pocket too early and running into pressure whereas if he would just settle in the pocket he'd have time to make his reads.

Again, he's just a true freshman though. A lot of this is to be expected I think. Freshman are going to make mistakes and bone-head plays at times. I think the message Rich is trying to send him is that he's got to play better, smarter, and the job isn't automatically his. He's got to earn it with his play.

I don't see why Smith should have been a lock to play this year. They have Minor, Brown, Shaw, Cox & Robinson. Why do you need Smith? That's a wasted redshirt chance imo. Sure he can contribute, btud do you really need him to do so?

Grady has no business bouncing a play outside for 30 yards. That's what I'm getting at with my previous posts.

Well Minor and Brown are gone after this year, and Smith showed the coaches he was good enough to play in the spring and fall. I like that they are getting him some work in this year, because he's probably going to be a big part of our rotation next year with Mike Shaw and Mike Cox. I would rather have him get some live action and reps with the first team now and get his feet wet now than for him to have to wait an entire year.

That is true, and he could easily be your starting back next year, particularly with his ability as a receiver. It just seems like UM isn't very interested in redshirting anyone with a pulse.

They're mortgaging their future (year 5) to protect the present. The flipside of that is that its pretty easy to find good backs, particularly with the flexibility of using slot/rb hybrids.

Well, Jwinslow when you recruit so many slot/rb hybrids like we have you cannot afford to redshirt all of them.:wink2:

Braylon Edwards (probably not well liked around here, but has shown himself to be an absolute stud in he NFL when he wants to be)

Leon Hall (starter for the Bengals, absolute stud)

The rest of the list, I don't have much problem with, but these, I disagree.

Edwards had one great season and has been mediocre at best the rest of the time. The talent and ability is all there but the drops are ridiculous.

Hall has been better than he expected he would be, but an "absolute stud"? I don't think so.

Justin Feagin arraigned on drug charges

Feagin could face 20 years for role in Florida-to-Ann Arbor cocaine deal

Former Michigan football player Justin Feagin was arraigned Monday on three felony drug charges stemming from an ill-conceived plan to ship cocaine from his home state of Florida to Ann Arbor.

Feagin, 20, was charged in district court in Ann Arbor with conspiracy to deliver less than 50 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to possess 25 to 49 grams of cocaine, and conspiracy to possess less than 25 grams of cocaine, according to U-M police officials. If convicted of the delivery charge, Feagin faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000. The possession charges carry a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000.

Feagin was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary examination Nov. 4. Feagin was a sophomore receiver when coach Rich Rodriguez kicked him off the team in July for "a violation of team rules."

Using U-M Department of Public Safety reports obtained under Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, the Free Press reported in August that Feagin's downfall started with a plan to have a friend in Florida send cocaine to Ann Arbor for fellow student T.J. Burke to sell on campus.

Police said Feagin told investigators that he took Burke's money, but the cocaine never arrived. Burke was later convicted of setting a fire in a U-M dorm to get back at Feagin
:bicker:
Feagin played wide receiver in one game at Texas Southern this fall. School sports information director Rodney Bush said Monday that coach Johnnie Cole kicked Feagin off the team when he found out about Feagin's past.

I would say that the person replacing Brandon Graham has some pretty darn big shoes to fill. Without him that DL would be an even bigger joke.

On offense Michigan takes some serious hits. The 2 best backs Michigan has are gone...3rd best back isn't even in the same zip code as them.

Losing 3 starting OL is not gonna help either.

Alot of the most talented Wolverines leave this year. Both OL and DL next year will be something to watch...I think the running game is a close second.

IMO Tate doesn't make it through the PSU game.

Robinson will not win you games...he cannot throw H.S. level passes.

Michigan athletic director Bill Martin to retire in 2010

Ann Arbor -- Michigan athletic director Bill Martin will retire Sept. 4, 2010 after a decade in that role.
Martin made the decision official Wednesday, according to University of Michigan athletic department sources. He sent a letter to U-M president Mary Sue Coleman and was to inform the athletic department at an all-staff meeting at Keen Arena.
Martin officially became athletic director on Aug. 1, 2000. Earlier that spring, he had been named interim athletic director, replacing Tom Goss.
Among his most recent achievements: the renovation of Michigan Stadium, which will be officially unveiled next season, and the approval of plans for a basketball practice facility adjacent to Crisler Arena.
Martin hired the two most prominent coaches in Michigan athletics -- football coach Rich Rodriguez in December 2007 and men's basketball coach John Beilein in April 2007.

Tate Forcier feeling good, looking forward to playing Penn State - AnnArbor.com
In a teleconference Tuesday, Forcier said his sprained right shoulder ?feels great? and he has no ill effects from the concussion he suffered in his final snap against Iowa two weeks ago.

"My arm, my head, everything?s great,? Forcier said. ?I finally got to practice on a Monday. It?s been a while. I?m having a full week of practice, I have full range on (my shoulder). I can actually snap my arm down on some of my passes. I?m happy to have it back.?
He's been dinged up in almost every contest. Not that believable, nor is this:
Forcier, who played just one series last week against Delaware State for precautionary reasons, said he didn?t have a problem with Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez?s decision to play Denard Robinson in the final minutes against Iowa.

?I didn?t even question it,? Forcier said. ?It was his decision to put him in and like I said I supported it. He thought Denard was playing well and Denard kind of had a thing going with them. He drove them down on the series before. Like I said, I didn?t even question it. He?s the coach. I let him make the decision."

There goes RR's security blanket, particularly given how many big wigs up north aren't "all in" for RR like Martin is. He'll still get a full 3 years, if not 4-5, but the leash will be shorter with a replacement if RR isn't delivering. Martin knew RR was his legacy and would give him time to succeed.
