jwinslow;1570171; said:They torched a lot of redshirts this year for garbage minutes, see stokes. I realize they are a young team right now, but I think they'd be well served to get a 5th year for some of these guys.
I always thought UM had good RBs, including shaw/smith, but it's hard to put much stock in a team that made Kelvin Grady look like Maurice Clarett.
Tate is the guy for now. We'll see what happens in their next tough game if he struggles as a passer and continues to be an average running threat, the bread and butter of this offense. I like him as a player, I just think the hook is getting shorter by the game.
jwinslow;1570201; said:I don't see why Smith should have been a lock to play this year. They have Minor, Brown, Shaw, Cox & Robinson. Why do you need Smith? That's a wasted redshirt chance imo. Sure he can contribute, btud do you really need him to do so?
jwinslow;1570241; said:That is true, and he could easily be your starting back next year, particularly with his ability as a receiver. It just seems like UM isn't very interested in redshirting anyone with a pulse.
They're mortgaging their future (year 5) to protect the present. The flipside of that is that its pretty easy to find good backs, particularly with the flexibility of using slot/rb hybrids.

Leon Hall (starter for the Bengals, absolute stud)

Justin Feagin arraigned on drug charges
Feagin could face 20 years for role in Florida-to-Ann Arbor cocaine deal
Former Michigan football player Justin Feagin was arraigned Monday on three felony drug charges stemming from an ill-conceived plan to ship cocaine from his home state of Florida to Ann Arbor.
Feagin, 20, was charged in district court in Ann Arbor with conspiracy to deliver less than 50 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to possess 25 to 49 grams of cocaine, and conspiracy to possess less than 25 grams of cocaine, according to U-M police officials. If convicted of the delivery charge, Feagin faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000. The possession charges carry a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000.
Feagin was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary examination Nov. 4. Feagin was a sophomore receiver when coach Rich Rodriguez kicked him off the team in July for "a violation of team rules."
Using U-M Department of Public Safety reports obtained under Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, the Free Press reported in August that Feagin's downfall started with a plan to have a friend in Florida send cocaine to Ann Arbor for fellow student T.J. Burke to sell on campus.
:bicker:Police said Feagin told investigators that he took Burke's money, but the cocaine never arrived. Burke was later convicted of setting a fire in a U-M dorm to get back at Feagin
Feagin played wide receiver in one game at Texas Southern this fall. School sports information director Rodney Bush said Monday that coach Johnnie Cole kicked Feagin off the team when he found out about Feagin's past.
cont'dAnn Arbor -- Michigan athletic director Bill Martin will retire Sept. 4, 2010 after a decade in that role.
Martin made the decision official Wednesday, according to University of Michigan athletic department sources. He sent a letter to U-M president Mary Sue Coleman and was to inform the athletic department at an all-staff meeting at Keen Arena.
Martin officially became athletic director on Aug. 1, 2000. Earlier that spring, he had been named interim athletic director, replacing Tom Goss.
Among his most recent achievements: the renovation of Michigan Stadium, which will be officially unveiled next season, and the approval of plans for a basketball practice facility adjacent to Crisler Arena.
Martin hired the two most prominent coaches in Michigan athletics -- football coach Rich Rodriguez in December 2007 and men's basketball coach John Beilein in April 2007.
He's been dinged up in almost every contest. Not that believable, nor is this:In a teleconference Tuesday, Forcier said his sprained right shoulder ?feels great? and he has no ill effects from the concussion he suffered in his final snap against Iowa two weeks ago.
"My arm, my head, everything?s great,? Forcier said. ?I finally got to practice on a Monday. It?s been a while. I?m having a full week of practice, I have full range on (my shoulder). I can actually snap my arm down on some of my passes. I?m happy to have it back.?
Forcier, who played just one series last week against Delaware State for precautionary reasons, said he didn?t have a problem with Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez?s decision to play Denard Robinson in the final minutes against Iowa.
?I didn?t even question it,? Forcier said. ?It was his decision to put him in and like I said I supported it. He thought Denard was playing well and Denard kind of had a thing going with them. He drove them down on the series before. Like I said, I didn?t even question it. He?s the coach. I let him make the decision."
There goes RR's security blanket, particularly given how many big wigs up north aren't "all in" for RR like Martin is. He'll still get a full 3 years, if not 4-5, but the leash will be shorter with a replacement if RR isn't delivering. Martin knew RR was his legacy and would give him time to succeed.LightningRod;1572899; said:
