Move on to Troy Smith and you have a QB that developed into an NFL QB. Who knows if he ever has success at that level, but he was prepared to play football at the next level.
You can't say that about Pat White. And Rich Rodriguez has only turned out 5 or so offensive players for the NFL in his entire CAREER. While Steve Breaston didn't light the college world up statiscally, he at least learned the basics of playing in an NFL type system. If Stokes goes to UM, it's like a double-negative come draft day. A guy who didn't put up huge numbers, and a player that hasn't learned basic techniques and route-running at a high level.

Washington Decision Soon
By Phil Kornblut
OL Quinton Washington (6-4 315) of Timberland made an official visit to Miami over the weekend and is just about ready to make a final decision, perhaps as early as Monday aftternoon. "I asked if this (the Miami visit) juggled this up a lot and he said not really," Timberland coach Art Craig said Sunday night. "He and I are going to sit down tomorrow and talk and hopefully there will be a decision tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday morning. He's not going to make a big deal of it. When he decides, he will let me know and I'll call all the proper people." Craig said the decision appears to have boiled down to USC and Michigan. "Michigan did such a good job recruiting him," he said. "What kept them in in play is their position coach recruited him the whole time. But, we had Hat Dat on Thursday and he wore a big Carolina cap. That didn't mean that much other than he picked up a hat and wore it, but he did seem at ease on Thursday, like he's made his mind up. He didn't seem real nervous." Craig said he and Washington will meet early Monday afternoon.
9. Q: Just how much are Mark Dantonio and his Michigan State staff able to take advantage of Michigan's down season? What's the biggest area of need for MSU to hit this recruiting season?
A: From Mike Fowler, Managing Editor and Publisher, GoSpartans.net
The Spartans coaching staff really took advantage of Michigan's ill-advised decision to turn away from Bo Schembechlers style of football - a brand of football that brought them forty years of success - and dominated the in-state recruiting scene.
Of the top ten prospects in the state, MSU got seven of them. Two went to Ohio State, only one to Michigan. The big names in this class for the Spartans are four-star linebacker, Christian Norman of Detroit Renaissance along with four star running backs Edwin Baker of Oak Park and Larry Caper of Battle Creek. One of the two running backs will likely play immediately to replace Spartans all-time great Javon Ringer.

5. Q: Is last year's disaster a plus in any way, since now Rich Rodriguez can tell recruits they can play right away? What's the biggest area of need for Michigan to hit this recruiting season?
A: From Tom Beaver, from GoBlueWolverine.com
No disaster is a plus; if anything the 3-9 season opened Coach Rodriguez to even-more-excessive negative recruiting than ever, which only winning can stop. Nevertheless, Coach Rod and his assistants are super-recruiters, so things look good regardless.
The five biggest needs:
(1) quarterbacks
(2) quarterbacks
(3) quarterbacks
(4) safeties
(5) any great players, at any position.
As far as quarterbacks go, U-M has already enrolled a top-notch run-pass signal-caller in Tate Forcier, plus the Wolverines look to be in a strong position for yet another top-player in the Wolverines' new prime recruiting ground of central-Florida in Deerfield Beach's Denard Robinson.
As far as safeties go, U-M has already enrolled central-Floridians Mike Jones and Vlad Emilien, and Ohio commitment JT Turner is a 5-star guy DB who can play either safety or corner.
As far as the "great players at any position," instate lineman William Campbell fits the bill -- he's the only guy who has ever played both ways in a U.S. Army All-American Bowl game.

Montgomery Cuts List To Final Three
By Phil Kornblut
DE Sam Montgomery (6-5 240) of Greenwood cut three more schools from his list Monday night leaving him with a final three he will carry to Signing Day morning when he will announce a final decision on ESPN. According to his mother, Clemson and Michigan were informed they are no longer under consideration. Mrs. Montgomery said she's not been able to reach the recruiter from the third school and would not say which school that is. So, USC, North Carolina, LSU and Tennessee, at least publicly, are still on the list.
Barring a last second change of hear, Under Armour All-American offensive lineman Quinton Washington (Saint Stephen,S.C./Timberland) will sign with Michigan on Wednesday. The Wolverines are the choice ahead of South Carolina and Miami. According to sources, Michigan sold Washington and his family on the number of linemen they put in the NFL and also on various programs that the university offers.
The in-state Gamecocks were considered the strong favorites throughout but sources indicate that an in-home visit with Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez sold Washington on playing football in the Big Ten.
