2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Exactly. I could care less who UM or osu play. Personally, while it may be entertaining to watch, I think it's ill-advised for osu to play anyone the likes of USC. It's high risk with a reward that just ain't much better (in BCS terms) than a W over youngstown state.
I personally disagree....

Ohio State lost little in losing to Texas at home in 2005. Fell from... 3 to 5 if memory serves. Big games define the program... a kid who wants exposure is more likely to consider playing for Ohio State against USC than for Ohio State against YSU... likewise, USC v. Ohio State... or Ohio State v. Texas is ALL OVER the sporting news for weeks.. exposure to the program is never bad.

When OSU ended up with such a week 07 schedule, I did not defend it... if OSU had been shut out of the BCS National Title game as a result of the competition being poor, I would have no leg to stand on.....

I agree with you, relunctantly, that there is something to the "win is a win" mentality... I just hate to see that mentality in College Football.

That was one person. And he continues to write like that the whole thread, while most people appose his opinion.
The horror really scarred you, huh?

Of course, there were many people admitting that UM is padding their schedule with easy teams. Looks like they were being "fussy" too, but somehow you didn't ride to defend UM's glory.
I saw Army beat them a couple years ago, we can take 'em.
I agree with what you are saying. Until the BCS penalizes teams for scheduling patsy OOC games, bring on North Dakota State school for the gifted.
UMass would be a good opponent for UM early in the year.

Anything is possible (App State / Toledo), but I like Michigan's chances vs. the Minutemen.
has anyone........
thought of the fact that its hard to schedule a good non-conference team.
Then again, M&B wasn't as alone as you are trying to sell
There's a big difference between UM and Florida. Florida can win the national championship playing The Citadel because if they win the SEC they're going to be ranked above any other school with the same record. If Michigan ended the season with the same record as 1 or 2 other schools and had UMass on the schedule, they're going to get hosed because of the "strength" of the Big 10. A middle of the pack non-BCS conference team or a bottom feeder from a BCS conference team would be way more respectable.
If the NC was determined by a playoff system that incorporated
conference champions, then teams wouldn't be automatically penalized by playing tough OOC teams and losing a game.

Unfortunately, it's also a question of maximizing the number of home games for financial reasons, so we've always got the search for a team that doesn't demand a home-and-home. What I don't buy is that there are no teams among the mid-level D1 conferences that wouldn't require a return home date. Bill Martin will have to provide concrete scheduling evidence that there is no team from the MAC, WAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt, or Conference USA that doesn't have an open date at the beginning of the 2010 season before I'll believe for one second that the only recourse is D1AA or whatever the hell they're calling it now.

I agree that you can't single out Michigan for this without also criticizing all the other major schools that are doing it. However, it undercuts the common Michigan fan assertion that we're somehow a cut above all other programs simply because we're Michigan and we're awesome.

This is a buckeye board. You seem to struggle with that concept.

We're not going to be forgiving when talking about UM. Getting bent out of shape and calling us fussy and then falling back on how UM owns OSU all time is not the ticket to stick around here.

reag, he was absolutely brutal last year, and was not even proficient at throwing bubble screens. With time to develop, perhaps he can reverse that, but this is not like getting Ryan Mallett, a raw but very talented RR departure.

Put it this way, he was a 6'5" pocket passer who was better at running the read option than he was passing.

I'm shocked ASU would waste a schollie.....he has zero chance at being an efficient Pac 10 QB.....weak arm, little mobility, and was just dreadful last year. I'd be a bit confused as an ASU fan......

ASU just had 2 QB's quit/transfer so they are looking for some added depth. ASU was also looking at the Marve guy that was transferring from Miami, but I guess he's going to Purdue.

Hopefully this Threet guy can turn it around and atleast compete for the starting job in a year or two.

Since Rudy Carpenter is gone, ASU is probably going to start a senior Danny Sullivan this year and then the other guys behind him are all very green (no NCAA starts). So Threet probably thinks he has a shot at earning the starting job next year when all QB's will be unproven.

He lost out to Nick Sheridan in fall camp. Some assumed it was because of Sheridan's added mobility (since he didn't really have a decent HS level arm, let alone college), but it turned out he was simply that bad.
