In this defense, the spinner takes the place of one of the 2 "true LB'ers" on the outside in a normal 4-3, which in turn means that there will only ever be 2 "true" linebackers on the field, which in turn means the need to recruit as many "true linebackers" is reduced and the need to recruit more Spinner/Hybrid types is increased.

In terms of numbers, Rodriguez only needs 1 more "true" linebacker recruit. What he needs now is DT's, he needs to bring in at least 2.

Threet didn't want to stay either. And as already pointed out, there are a lot of freshman who want to leave after things get tough (competition, practices, demands on their time, home sick, cold weather, conditioning, etc). Handling those discontent youngsters is a big part of their job.

I'm not sure if Mallett would have stayed if RR had truly tried to retain him. But he made a lot more effort to keep Threet.

Dude, you scUM fans need to get your heads out of your asses! Whether Mallett wanted to be there is not the issue, most would probably agree that he was leaning toward leaving. The point is that RR didn't even TRY to get Mallett to stay, which the vast majority of new coaches (who aren't assholes or idiots) would do so they wouldn't end up starting a Threet, Sheridan, or Cone. None of those QBs were EVER intended to start under Carr.
