2009 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Texas QB Cody Green
Dayton (TX) Dayton

CODYGREEN6_13200.JPG

Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 220 lbs
Forty: 4.6 secs
Bench max: 315 pounds
Squat max: 360 pounds
Vertical: 33 inches
Class: 2009 (High School)

So, it looks like I found Pryor's heir apparent in the form of TX QB Cody Green. Big kid, strong arm (though he does have sort of a funky, shot put motion), and has plenty of speed to burn. Looks great in the open field when he takes off, but will also sit in the pocket and find the open receiver. Already hold offers from Miami(FL), Baylor, Houston and Texas A&M. Says he will leave Texas for the right school and the right situation. I would not be surprised to see him get some pub when the recruiting gets rolling for 2009. Hey, he already looks good in the Scarlet too.

Note: With no responses from the last prospect (Florida RB Adarius Bellamy), let me know if you guys think I am cluttering up the board or if you like seeing these "under-the-radar" kids right now. We know for sure that the kids we are looking at right now will not be the same group we are hearing from later on in the process. I am just trying to bring attention some kids I come across that I feel could be a good fit for the program.

Bgriff- good work, I'd love to read up on some lower-profiled guys that might find their way to Columbus. thanks!
These are guys that don't warrant their own threads yet (although great kids with great skills and potential... the threads are made when there is evidence of mutual interest and the kids are possible recruits to look out for). I will try to sift through the absolute tons of recruits out there right now and hopefully find a hidden gem

Appreciate the effort BGriff. I for one think it adds alot to the thread early in the process. It will be cool, and a stroke for you when one of these guys moves to the front burner for OSU.

Qb Cody Green looks like an interesting prospect. With his offers not really an Anderson Russell type secret. If we get Pryor, I think it will take a unique set of circumstances to get another top-tier qb in here for '09. A full fledged Buckeye, or a hidden gem along the lines of the A. Henton-M. Stafford scenario, would be my two guesses.

I haven't seen much tight-end talk in this thread to date. Most of you in the know posters aren't showing much on your top 20 lists. Have seen a few blurbs of a player out of Cinci, and a 6'9" player out of Indiana. What about Dion Sims out of OLSM? Care to make a few predictions about who gets the TE offer for this class? Thanks...

At this point those three you mentioned are the only guys that have really been mentioned...

Jacob Green is the guy from Cinci...Not sure he is tOSU material...Hazlett has great size at 6'9'', but other than that not much info out there...He is still playing basketball, so that could be slowing down his process a little...Same team as Walter Offut...

As for Dion Sims not sure on interest in him...I have heard grades, I have heard bball route, so really not sure...

BTW for the top 20 lists, I think that Desmar Jackson could be on there in the top 15 until he declares that he is not playing football this year or in college...

Since most here are now wondering about the Tight End position, I figured it would be my next stop. I would imagine 2 is the likely number here in 2009. We are graduating 2 (Rory Nicol and Brandon Smith) of our 4 scholarship Tight Ends on the roster, leaving only Jacob Ballard and Nic DiLillo. Of course, we did recruit Andrew Miller for the position, but he seems to have been moved to the Offensive Line for a reason and would only be moved back to add another body, not quality depth.

Illinois TE Shaun Pratl
Oak Lawn (IL) Richards

Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 230 lbs
Forty: 4.6 - 4.7 (according to his coach)

Shaun is a midwestern kid. Had a pretty big Junior year, recording 33 receptions, 690 yards, 9 TD to go along with 5 2-pt conversions, 2 blocked punts, and he is the team's long snapper. He can also play Defensive End. His father was a LB Michigan. Shaun is also a pretty athletic kid, as he is a legit D1 basketball recruit as well. Shaun's coach states that he is a great blocker, a huge target, deceptive speed and great hands... with a mean streak. I like his potential a lot. Shaun loves to block, it's "his favorite thing to do." I would compare him to Jacob Ballard almost to a tee.

I'm happy to say that of the kids I have seen my opinion of them seems to be roughly in line with where others are rankings them

One thing I find interesting is Duane's ranking of Fellows as #1 in the State.

Is it just me or does it seem like he has a very strong love for Ends? It seems like most years he has a kid at DE bumped up higher than just about anyone else has them.

Anyone else have a similar perception or am I just sweating out Taos' shrooms?

I never saw anything to indicate he was. His AAU team is also coached by former scUM WR Tai Streets. No offers yet. He visited Notre Dame for the first time for a game and says he was impressed... and also that he has never really been a fan of them.

Thank you. Where do you see him lining up? If TE, do we need one in this class? Do you think we'll offer? He's pretty fast to be THAT big. Did Jake have 4.6 speed?

I for one find it a very disturbing visual for the big man to have a love of ends.

Aside from that I like Fellows a bunch and thought his performance against to other under classman all-stars (including Hall) was outstanding. Great speed to the corner. Played low. For my untrained eye, if he isn't #1 he at least belongs in the same conversation. I really like Fellows.
