My (early) top 20 for Ohio:

1. Johnny Simon DT: Amazing explosion, great athleticism, extremely strong, and is not near his ceiling imo...easily #1 imo
2. Marcus Hall OL: Great size, long arms, good strength, good athleticism, and great upside...debatable here with Klein
3. Storm Klein LB: Amazing explosion through tackles, great lateral agility, good instincts, a playmaker, and versatile...interchangable with Hall
4. Marvin Fellows DE: Great strength, long arms, good athleticism, and prototypical size...close to the top 3
5. Chris Fields WR: Good to great speed, great hands, good change of direction, good acceleration, and is a playmaker...could move up with combines
6. C.J. Barnett CB: Great size, great range, amazing athleticism for his size, great hips, nice upside, and a ballhawk...needs to work on his tackling
7. Justin Turner S: Could go up and is usually mentioned as a top-5 player...I need to see his film
8. Jack Mewhort OL: Great athleticism, engages very well, has a big meantstreak, good technician, very physical, great size, and versatile...another player that could move up
9. Devontae Payne QB: Great size, great arm, fairly accurate, and mobile enough...needs combines to improve stock
10. Julius Ferrell DE/LB: Physical specimen, great athleticism, hits like a ton of bricks, and moves well laterally...grades could be in question and he could certainly move up
11. Will Studlien LB: Simple here...Studlien is a gamer. Very intense and always is focused. Has nice size and while he lacks some measurables, I want to see Will in this class
12. Fitzgerald Toussaint RB/WR: Blazing speed, great lateral acceleration, amazing moves, decent size, good vision, and versatile...another I want to see us offer but size could be a factor
13. Chris Freeman OL: Prototypical size, good athleticism for his size, huge wingspan, and obvious upside...really hoping to see us take Chris
14. Bud Golden RB: Great downhill runner, good speed, great size, and great burst...I expect to see Bud in this class
15. Darrell Mason S: Good size, decent athleticism, but mostly makes plays...I didn't like his junior film but his sophmore film was amazing. I think if he looses some weight, he could move back up into the elite players at safety.
16. Patrick White: Good athlete, great hands, and great size...looking forward to see how he does in camp
17. Ryan Spiker OL/DL: HUGE meanstreak, great size, good first step, and good athleticism...look out for him during camps
18. Ricky Harris DT/OL: I personally like Ricky at DT for now
19. Adam Homan FB/LB: Good size, good instincts, decent athleticism, and I think he will pave the way well at FB for the Bucks
20. Dale Peterman DB: Good range, good size, nice athleticism, and fairly physical...I will be watching out for Dale at camps and combines

I really like Toussaint. Does anyone know if he has any favorites yet?

Good work here...Now for mine...

1. John Simon - Kid is a stud, Small concern about his frame being about maxed out, but not enough to take him out of the top spot...
2. Melvin Fellows - True DE and will push Simon all year for the top spot...
3. Tank Carradine - See Fellows, these two are both tOSU worthy...
4. Marcus Hall - Very good Tackle prospect...Put some nice numbers up at the combine...
5. Storm Klein - Great hitter, you go down when he hits, gets to the ball fast, no lack of speed, and makes plays behind the line, Tough nosed kid as well...
6. Justin Turner - Great athlete to roam the defensive backfield...Has great size and speed combo for S...
7. CJ Barnett - Has great cover skills, and great size for a corner...
8. Chris Fields - Top WR in the state...Great speed ran the fastest time at the combine, Needs to work some on route running but great after the catch...
9. Jack Mewhort - Nasty olineman...Inside lineman, very good quickness...
10. Darrell Mason - Has a prototype body, but the game needs to catch up to the body...
11. Bud Golden - Top RB in the state, great moves, always falling forward, does a good job getting into the hole and shows good speed...
12. Devantae Payne - Top QB in the state...Honestly tough to get a read on him off film, competition not very tough...
13. Will Studlein - A warrior is the best way to describe him...Makes plays, not your prototypical frame for a lb, but can't overlook his toughness and ability to make plays...
14. Fitzgerald Toussaint - My favorite rb on film, but overall his size at this point hurts him a little...He gets bigger and keeps his speed he could be a top 10 player in the state...
15. Chris Freeman - Has some big offers, big kid at 6'8'' 330...Haven't seen him in person, but might need to cut some weight, unless he holds it well...
16. Adam Homan - Another tough nosed kid...Makes plays whether on offense and defense...Has the bloodlines...
17. Ricky Harris - Deciding which position is his best is the question right now...
18. Adam Bellamy - Really liked his film, moves like a DE, but has the frame to play Dt...
19. Ryan Spiker - It is becoming the cliche for him, but he is just truly a violent blocker, and knocks people out when he blocks them...
20. Dale Peterman - had him higher till I saw his 5'10' 168 frame at the combine...Still a very good corner...

Other guys to watch...Jonathon Newsome(haven't seen film yet),Julius Ferrel, Patrick White, Jamie Wood, Jeff Duckworth, Jeff Walker, Tyler Soctt, Nate Cadogan, Denicos Allen, Nate Klatt...

I could keep going and I know I probably missed some really good players, but it is still early...

A very deep year this year in terms of guys that are tOSU caliber...I wouldn't be surprised to see us take 12-15 guys from instate this year...

No mention of Mark Mays, cbf40? He's probably my top Ohio RB.

I could of put him on the watch list, and I knew there were guys that I had forgot...Don't think he is a top 20 player at the time...

Keep in mind he also has Ringer in the same backfield with him, and the holes he is running thru are pretty big, due to a very good oline...

I really like Golden and Touissaint right now, and they have some offers to back that up...

Not saying Mays won't get offers, and honestly he could have some, but at the moment that is how I see it...

Turner is too low IMO on your list.

I'd for sure have him top three with Simon and Hall. Klein at 4, and Fellows at 5.

Edit: Homan also way too low IMO. He's at least top 15, if not top ten.

I haven't seen Turner yet, so I'm just going on hear-say mostly. I'm sure he will likely move up on my list. I have seen Homan and while he is a good player, his position as a FB doesn't really help him out much. I don't think he is top 20 in Ohio at LB in terms of potential at the next level.

Great list cb40...I'm going to have to check Carradine's film out if you have him that high because generally we tend to agree, as our lists are fairly close  Definetly agree on Payne though...I want to see him go to some camps and combines because he is such a tough read.

As far as comparing the '08 vs. '09 Ohio crop, that is a legit question. It is early but I think the top-end talent was richer in '08 but the overall depth is better for '09. I think the top 10 in '08; Adams, Rudolph, Posey, Torrence, Stoney, Zordich, McCarthy, Beachum, Koger, and Williams, tops the (roughly) top 10 in '09. I think it fits OSU's recruiting perfectly because we caught the high end talent year when Ohio had more high-end talent, and now we have more schollies to give in a deeper year.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot Ashford and he is definetly top 20, probably in the 12-16 range imo. Combines and camps will certainly help him as well. Fixed Ashford and I added Carridine after seeing his film and raised you one cb40

Now THAT is an excellent list...glad to see some names like Jones, Duckworth and Bomar...you've obviously done your homework.

I think you could make a strong case for each player and where you have them ranked (I admit I have not seen any film of Carradine yet so I am just going off the hype on him).

Mason and Ferrell are the two guys I would have a hard time ranking...Mason because I have not seen him produce on the field like a upper tier talent should and Ferrell because I have no idea what position to project him at.

From what i'm seeing this year instate class is better than '08. What made the 08 class so special was the OOS recruits; Brewster, Gobel, and so on. Supplement this instate group with a few OOS studs and we're once again on our way:)

I agree that is a great list..Still early and lots of kids haven't got their names out there and no film yet...

Agreed, and do yourself a favor and get over to scoutingohio and check it out...

Agree on both guys...Very tough...Also agree on your earlier statement about Ashford...Totally slipped my mind...Would of liked to see what time he posted at the combine tho, as he said he wasn't happy with it and didn't disclose it...

I like Ferrell, i just have no idea what position he's goin to play, and he had the injury bug last year.

Mason, I felt was a Top 3 player as a soph, but he's lost a step.. he could easily find his way up my list if he gets that extra gear going again his senior yr..

The kid I absolutely love who I think is underrated by most people is Denicos Allen.. I like Duane Long's comparison to Mike Doss.. but he's even quicker than Doss I think.. he's a beast around the LOS and a great blitzer.. runs like a 10.8 100 meter at well over 200 pounds I believe.. is a great wrestler.. I just think he's one of the best players in Ohio

Toussaint I love.. Ashford catches everything and plays bigger than he is.. i love both these guys..

Jamie Wood is another guy i think is great.. not sure what position he will play, but he could be a very good safety, LB, or athletic TE type down the road..

Snook is a beast.. he impressed at the combine the other day and everyone in Ohio seems to love him.. I saw Powers or one of those guys over on scout say he's the best LB in the state behind Klein.. I dont think we're gonna get involved with him, but somebody is gonna get a very good LB..

Some of the lower ranked guys i think can fly up the charts are Jeff Walker if he can work on his speed.. i think he ran a 4.55 at the Cleveland combine, so that is an improvement.. his highlight reel shows great height and great ability to go up and make the tough grabs.. Danario Gray is supposedly a real nice receiver.. im waiting for tape on him, but he could be an explosive WR despite his size.. Alex Jones, this kid is a monster, has pretty good feet and was second team All Ohio I believe.. not sure why he isnt more hyped..

Anyway, i could go on and on about some of these lower ranked guys because this class is so deep it's crazy.. much deeper than last yr.. and i think alot of these kids could blow up cause they got measurables u cant teach.. just a matter of putting it together and showcasing at the camps..

I try to search through the various Rivals and Scout databases and find guys I think could be players down the line for us, mainly in Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania where we have had a great deal of sucess recently... but certainly not limited to these states. Anyways, much like I noted FL RB Carlos Hyde, FL RB Lonnie Pryor and GA LB Nigel Mitchell-Thornton... here is another RB name I think we should keep a close eye on.

FL RB Adarius Bellamy
Dunedin (FL) Dunedin

605857.jpg

Height: 5-foot-9
Weight: 220 lbs
Class: 2009 (High School)

Hails form Dunedin, Florida... which is very close to Gulfport, Florida on the west coast where Ohrian Johnson is from. He is a 5'9" 220 bruising back with speed to burn (although I am still searching for some speed numbers on him). Right now, claims to have Wisonsin and Florida as his leaders. He loves the "big time football" (his words) in the Big 10. He sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders and Ohio State embodies everything he says he is looking for in a school. I know how much we all hate Mike Hart but you have to admit he was one hell of a tough back... judging by Adarius's measureables, he could mirror Hart quite a bit. So, just a name I thought we should keep an eye on.

Well, you wouldn't be boring me!! Lot of work, I know, but just think of the work you'd save a poor backwoods country bumpkin like ME!! Then I could act like I know what I'm talkin' about that much faster, thank you very much.
In fact, if I could, I'd pay you to 'bore' me with this stuff all the way to my grave (speaks volumes for my social life)! I would LOVE to know your opinion in a sentence, two or more about EACH & EVERY ONE of these guys, in order especially, PLEASE!!
Then next to 45, you would be my newest and best-est hero!!

Thanks again, Buckeyecty4 for this list!
