2009 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Carradine is a DE, or possibly an OLB in the right defense. He has a frame very much like that of Pierre Woods when he was at Glenville (6-5 215 or so going into their senior years), and is known primarily for rushing the passer. He had about 25 sacks as a sophomore, but far less than that as a junior, apparently. Admittedly, getting reliable info out of Taft is a challenge, so I'm not sure whether his drop in production is due to injury, incomplete reporting by Taft, or an actual drop in production.

Hopefully someone will be contacting him to talk to him soon, because I don't believe any of Scout, Rivals, or Bucknuts has done so at this point. Tyler Houska at Medina Highland is another player I like a lot but who hasn't been contacted by any of these recruiting sites either, to my knowledge.

Lots of Taft guys with 09 film going up on scoutingohio so maybe Carradine's will soon as well...

While i dont think the Top 3 or Top 5 kids in this class are on the same level as the 08 Ohio class... this group of players goes about 40 to 50 deep in quality players..

You look at some of these LBs in Ohio, and there are about 10 of them who are pretty darn good and hard to seperate from one another.. Teams like Michigan St. are gonna get some fine football players if they just hang around and snatch up whoever OSU, Michigan, Illinois, and ND dont want

So, I was perusing through the Rivals database to see the types of athletes from the different states so far this year... mainly because it is early and I just want to see who's out there for '09.

Anyways, I was looking through Michigan's kids and came across a kid by the name of Dan Meurer. He is listed as a Safety, but with his height and speed combination, I think he would be a tremendous goal line threat as a WR. He needs to gain a little bit weight, as he is 6'5"+ and only listed as 170lbs... but with the right Strength and Conditioning program, especially with the one we have here at Ohio state, it could go a long way in helping him develop into a solid receiving threat.

Here's a link to his Rivals profile.
Let me know if you guys feel he is worth chasing

Does he have impressive film or reviews from local coaches? Or is there some other reason to assume 6'5" = stud?

i beleive his team won the division 1 state title this year, the QB set the record for most TD passes in a state title game and the one WR for the team set the record for most TD's in the state final as he scored a defensive TD on top of his receiving ones in the game.

My (early) top 20 for Ohio:

1. Johnny Simon DT: Amazing explosion, great athleticism, extremely strong, and is not near his ceiling imo...easily #1 imo
2. Tank Carridine DE: Amazing first step, rangy, great frame, extremely athletic, a QB's worst nightmare, and he is only scratching the surface of his potential imo
3. Marcus Hall OL: Great size, long arms, good strength, good athleticism, and great upside...debatable here with Klein
4. Storm Klein LB: Amazing explosion through tackles, great lateral agility, good instincts, a playmaker, and versatile...interchangable with Hall
5. Marvin Fellows DE: Great strength, long arms, good athleticism, and prototypical size...close to the top 3
6. Chris Fields WR: Good to great speed, great hands, good change of direction, good acceleration, and is a playmaker...could move up with combines
7. C.J. Barnett CB: Great size, great range, amazing athleticism for his size, great hips, nice upside, and a ballhawk...needs to work on his tackling
8. Justin Turner S: Could go up and is usually mentioned as a top-5 player...I need to see his film
9. Jack Mewhort OL: Great athleticism, engages very well, has a big meantstreak, good technician, very physical, great size, and versatile...another player that could move up
10. Devontae Payne QB: Great size, great arm, fairly accurate, and mobile enough...needs combines to improve stock
11. Julius Ferrell DE/LB: Physical specimen, great athleticism, hits like a ton of bricks, and moves well laterally...grades could be in question and he could certainly move up
12. Will Studlien LB: Simple here...Studlien is a gamer. Very intense and always is focused. Has nice size and while he lacks some measurables, I want to see Will in this class
13. Fitzgerald Toussaint RB/WR: Blazing speed, great lateral acceleration, amazing moves, decent size, good vision, and versatile...another I want to see us offer but size could be a factor
14. Chris Freeman OL: Prototypical size, good athleticism for his size, huge wingspan, and obvious upside...really hoping to see us take Chris
15. Perez Ashford WR: Attacks the ball well, amazing hands, good to great speed, and Santonio Holmes is a comparison I heard that I liked
16. Bud Golden RB: Great downhill runner, good speed, great size, and great burst...I expect to see Bud in this class
17. Darrell Mason S: Good size, decent athleticism, but mostly makes plays...I didn't like his junior film but his sophmore film was amazing. I think if he looses some weight, he could move back up into the elite players at safety.
18. Patrick White: Good athlete, great hands, and great size...looking forward to see how he does in camp
19. Ryan Spiker OL/DL: HUGE meanstreak, great size, good first step, and good athleticism...look out for him during camps
20. Adam Homan FB/LB: Good size, good instincts, decent athleticism, and I think he will pave the way well at FB for the Bucks
