2009 tOSU QB discussion (official thread)

You know what I don't get?

All you people spending all this time talking about 3rd stringers and 4th string emergency QBs...

...and not one word about the starter.

You guys have debated for pages and pages about the merits or lack thereof of guys that don't even show up on the two deep; and I haven't seen one argument about who anyone thinks the starter should be. Don't you think the starter might be a little more important?

Seriously, it's like you guys are just assuming that whoever the starter might be is some sort of foregone conclusion. Your priorities are way out of whack.

I'm going back to the ESPN boards. At least I can understand those without having to take a course on them.

Terrelle is a world-class athlete with tremendous upside. He was also very raw in the passing department, whether you wish to admit it or not. That's where the comparison to Guiton popped up.

All of this is completely true. To add to it....why the hell are OSU fans whining about getting QBs? We won a championship with Craig Krenzel. Todd Boeckman took us to another title game.

Name me the last QB who won a NC. Tebow? No...check the defense. Matt Flynn? I had to look it up to remember his name. Chris Leak? Oh yeah....it was Vince Young. Who does he play an awful lot like?

Comparing Guiton to Pryor is laughable. Guiton is a skinny kid (6'2''180?)with a nice release.
Pryor came in at 6'6'' 230lbs and just needed to work on his feet.

I was comparing the two in the passing deparment. No one ever mentioned size until you. And like alot of players I would think after a red shirt year that Guiton's body will look alot diffrent. Guitons mechanics are far better than Pryor's mechanics when he was back in his Jayhawk days.

Any chance we can get a 1000000:1 bet on wo the starting QB will be?

It isn't for next year. It's for a couple years from now when TP and Joe are gone, and you need a new starter. You want to have a guy who has been in the offense a few years. You don't want to have to start a true freshmen like OSU had to last season. Or even a RS freshmen like Braxton Miller could be if TP leaves after his Junior year. Make Braxton earn it by beating out someone instead of having him be the only viable candidate on the roster.

I don't for a second think that the Bucks started a freshman because of a lack of experience and skill at the QB. The problem was the offensive line, especially at the tackle slots. The switch to Pryor was necessitated because of the inability of last years OL to protect a pocket passer. Given the choice of an outstanding tackle or an outstanding QB in this year's recruiting class I'd go with a tackle. That's where the Bucks have proven to be weakest in the last three seasons.
