2009 tOSU QB discussion (official thread)

Not really. We'll have Pryor for at least two more years, Bauserman for three, and Guiton for four. Now, getting Braxton from the '11 class is important...
Guiton is a project who probably won't be ready to see the field for 2-3 years at least, that leaves us with two viable QBs, and then there is the chances of Pryor getting hurt considering he's a dual threat QB who is going to be asked to do a lot.

And a true freshman like Graham (or any other '10 prospect) gives us a better chance than Guiton in 2010? Guiton has this year to get spun up on the offense and to take some reps with the team, whilst all the '10 prospects are still playing high school ball. "Project" or not, I think Guiton will be as viable an option in the 2010 season as most of the '10 QB prospects with whom we have a reasonable chance. Guiton was picked as a QB, not an ATH, so he'll be groomed as a QB and may just surprise folks.

Bottom line, IMO, is that we can get by without a QB in the 2010 class, although I would like to see us get one if possible.

I have to completely disagree.

There is always the threat of injury to your starter. Like I said before, there are many out there (including one of the most recent articles by DL) that feel Bauserman could possibly leave the school to start elsewhere because he realizes he might not start here. He also thinks Guiton could be more fit to be a WR than QB, only in emergency cases.

You don't go through a season with only 2 or 3 QB's, one being average at best in Guiton. Injuries can hit, and if they hit us like they did Oregon last year, there goes the season.

The staff realizes they need a QB and are going after it aggressively. A QB is a must in this class.

Uh, we went through last year with three scholarship QBs on roster after Henton and Schoenhoft transferred, and we had to struggle just to get Bauserman some playing time. Hell, the walk-on QB who played in the spring game (Siems?) looked as good as some of the true freshman QBs we've had. Gone are the days of having five scholarship QBs on roster, and I think four is unlikely except for when one or more of the QBs has only a year left.

Agressively? Three QB offers is not "aggressive".

I agree with Mili.. I would love a QB in this class, but I wouldn't call it a "must". As raw as of a prospect as Guiton is, a year can do a LOT of work. No matter how polished you are, being a freshman QB is one tough task. I would trust a RS frosh more than a true frosh, no matter how unpolished he may be.

Guiton will never play QB here unless someone gets hurt and we have no other options. Guiton is an athlete who will play WR.
I think a QB is a "must" for this class.
TP is the franchise and if he gets hurt running we are in deep ****! Say goodbye to this years season.

Graham may end up being our only option in this class. And Graham says he likes a Pro Style offense. Uh Oh!

IMHO, I think your selling Guiton a little short. I think was a solid pick up and could very well play one day at QB.

A) So because one year we didn't have any QB injuries, that means next year we won't have any? I'm sorry but that's a horribly foolish statement to make. Injuries aren't annual (unless you are the Browns), they come up and you have to be able to handle them. If Pryor is out for some games and Bauserman is your new starter, still feeling good about our backups? Exactly.

B) Aggressively in recruiting doesn't always refer to the sheer number of offers you've put out there, but how you go about it. We went hard after Montana and in the past it seems we'd sit and wait until he decided, but this year we moved quickly and aggressively once it appeared we wouldn't get Nick and moved to Hendrix very fast.

Obviously a year in the system will help, but only so much. Do you really think one year will take Guiton from a "project" to a tOSU quality starting QB? Troy had better tools to work with and he was still returning kicks as a redshirt frosh. (Yes, I realize he had Krenzel, Mullens, and Zwick there)

Guiton was picked as a QB, not an ATH, so he'll be groomed as a QB and may just surprise folks.
He was picked as a QB after all other options were gone. I think Guiton has nice potential but he's really raw IMO, he'll take some time to develop. I question whether or not he will ever start here because of the Pryor, and the possibility of adding Hendrix and Braxton to the mix, but thats for another thread.

Bottom line, IMO, is that we can get by without a QB in the 2010 class, although I would like to see us get one if possible.
Sometimes, teams can survive without injuries at QB, Florida in 2006 being a prime example when they only had Tebow and Leak. But there has been talk of Bauserman leaving in the past and still today (And Duane Long still thinks it may happen, one of the mods can refute this though if they know because I obviously have no clue), Pryor is going to be the focal point of the offense so you have to account for a chance he may get injured. Should anything happen to Pryor, we need more than a guy who has thrown 6 career passes and a project who was a last ditch option in January.

I don't know why you insist he's a "project"...

So? Doesn't change his ability or potential at all.

Back to Graham. Solid offer list (going by the head coaches and offensive coordinators who instigated the offers) and a legacy born at the OSU hospital, this offer is a no-brainer.
