2009-2010 Men's Basketball (Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament Champions)

The way I see the rest of the season playing out

This is the way I see the rest of our regular season playing out. Wins in Green and Losses in Red.

No. 16 Wisconsin - Should be a good battle. I don't see us losing this one at home with a healthy ET and Wisconsin missing Leuer.
Northwestern- An improved BigTen team, but the Bucks should be able to pull this one out in front of the home croud.
at No. 9 West Virginia - A big game for building our resume. I'll give it to WVU on the road. They are a damn good team.
at Iowa - Bottom dwellar of the BigTen. Not a very good team
Minnesota - Revenge game! Westbrook and company looked a little dirty on their home court with their fans backing them. Let's see how they like it in Columbus!
Penn State - Battling with Iowa for last in the BigTen
Iowa - See above
at Indiana - We handled them in ET's first game back. I don't expect this one to be much different.
at Illinois - If we can shut down McCamey,(no easy task, but I think they'll be up to it) Illinois won't stand a chance.
No. 6 Purdue - They will be after Revenge in this one. I honestly think this game could go either way. If my other predictions come true and the Bucks are on a 9-1 run entering this game they will be hard to beat
at No. 8 Michigan State - Good team, on the road, late in the season, BigTen title possibly on the line for MSU and maybe OSU. I don't feel realy optimistic about this one.
at Penn State - Still not good, and PSU basketball is an easy road environment to play in
Michigan - Beat the weasels down at home. They never should have beat us this first time. Even with ET out of the lineup
Illinois - I think we will win this one big at home to finish the regular season

This gives us a regular season record of 23-8 with a BigTen record of 13-5
Probably looking at a 4 seed with that resume before we even play a game in the BigTen tourny! If we could manage to win at home against Purdue, we could be looking at a chance to win the BigTen title.

Hey! I can dream can't I

7) If Ohio State had Jared Sullinger this season, the Buckeyes could win the national title. One of the reasons why Evan Turner is averaging double-figure rebounds is because his teammates aren?t effective enough on the glass. For example, starting center Dallas Lauderdale, a 6-foot-8, 260-pound physical specimen, pulled down his first rebound midway through the second half. He finished with just two boards in 24 minutes. David Lighty is second on the team in boards at 5.3 per contest.

I don't think you are dreaming:biggrin2:

I agree with your predictions and I really think their toughest game that you have us winning will come this Saturday against Wisconsin but being at home will certainly give us the advantage.

The only one I might disagree with, and don't laugh:) , is a game at Iowa. I know they are a very bad team will we always seem to have problems when we go there. I am also glad that we do not have to play at Northwestern. They also drive us crazy or at least me.

The three that could go either way are, as you pointed out, WVU (only because it is in their place), Purdue (however I agree with you and think that the Buckeyes repeat their performance at West Lafayette) , and at Michigan State (to tough to win at their house) .

Ohio State really shot up the charts in Sports Illustrated/CBS Sports Seth Davis' weekly AP ballot (NR to 13).

Cal, UConn and Butler*helped themselves in nonconference play - Seth Davis - SI.com

One thing I continued to think about during Wednesday's 20-point win over Northwestern, was Michael Wilbon (on Pardon the Interruption) going to continue ask Joe Lunardi of ESPN to include Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament (in his Bracketology) on a daily basis.

If he believes the Wildcats should be included, I'd hope he does.

Ohio State's bench players sit and wait ... and wait
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
By Bob Baptist
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Nikola Kecman had the "greatest practice of his life" yesterday, Thad Matta said. In the words of the Ohio State men's basketball coach, the sophomore forward's performance was "off the charts."

But when asked whether it was good enough to earn Kecman minutes in a meaningful situation tonight at Iowa, Matta paused and replied, "I don't know."

Such is the conundrum that exists for Matta as the Buckeyes hit the dog days of the regular season, nearly to the midpoint of the Big Ten schedule but with March's second wind not yet within sniffing distance.

Buckeyes bench players have played 22.7 percent of the minutes in the first 20 games, which ranks Ohio State next-to-last in the Big Ten and 327th of 347 NCAA Division I teams, according to kenpom.com. The Division I average is 31.7 percent.

"I'd like to use (the bench) as much as we could," Matta said this week on his call-in show on WBNS radio.

From that:

Kecman is behind Lighty at power forward and thinks he is ready for a role.

"I come from Europe (Serbia), and in America you have that (perception) of the European style not playing good defense," Kecman said. "If you look at me, I might look slow, but I know what to do when I get in the game.

"And I think if I get the opportunity to play, I'll do good."

'Do good?' 'Do good?' Come on Nikola, it's 'Do well.'

Somebody needs to hook him up with Kathleen Salyers. :paranoid:

CNNSI columnist Andy Glockner has Ohio State as a #3 seed playing a first round game against Murray State and a potential 2nd round matchup against Cincinnati or Gonzaga.
Mid-majors scoop up at-large bids in Bracket Watch - Andy Glockner - SI.com

ESPN's brackets have Ohio State as a #5 seed playing Siena in a matchup of last year's game... that I'd like to forget.
Bracketology - ESPN

The Siena game didn't bother me nearly as much as the indignant Siena fan that was upset I kept calling that goofy 6-9 Rossiter kid a flopper.

I think I agree with you when you first posted your predictions but after watching Illinois play a few games the at Illinois game scares me a little more than the Purdue at home game. However, we really shouldn't be looking past Indiana this Wednesday:biggrin2:
