Pryor, Boeckman To Split Snaps...............Pryor 65% and Boeckman 35%.

Jim Tressel said both Pryor and Todd Boeckman will see significant playing time this weekend -- and who will start is up in the air.

I just may become a vBillionaire on Saturday...

whatever the outcome, i hope that it is realized you have 4 years of playing time to make an impact, the legacy and those you teach/pass down can last longer than that. whatever may happen i hope that todd continues to grow and work with pryor and pryor looks to todd and his experiences. often time this isnt clean and pretty but i hope the two work and compete to make this team and future teams better.

It has been said that the two have become good freinds, and Todd seems classy enough to mentor Pryor without any self-regard...

After a few days of chewing on this whole situation I think a few things have become clear:

1. There are many people high on Pryor right now and rightfully so. But the fact remains, the body of work we have on Pryor to evaluate his ability to lead this team is not complete. He has yet to throw the ball downfield more than 10-20 yards. Not to say he can't...he simply hasn't been given the opportunity in the game. Moreover, he hasn't had the task of leading this team from start to finish. He has been nothing more than a change of pace from Todd. This in and of itself gives him and advantage over defenses and allows him to keep them off balance. If in fact the reigns are given to him before season end, doing what he does for four quarters is something all together different. Again, not saying he can't he simply hasn't had the experience.

2. Todd is a Buckeye. More importantly he is a fifth year senior and a captain. I think we can all agree that we want nothing but success for him. Unfortunately the last six games have not exactly showcased his strong points. This lends itself to confidence issues which he clearly has fallen prey to. I think Todd without a doubt is a great "practice" quarterback. He understands the offense as any fifth year senior would. He has proven to Tressel in the offseason that he knows exactly where to go with the ball. If you walked up to him right now and presented a hypothetical defensive look, given a certain blitz and progression, he would know exactly where to go with the ball. The reality is, he has lost his ability to do that in a game under real pressure. He has not only gotten the confidence bug, but he's getting worse. And it's painful to watch. I can't explain why this happens. Take Justin Zwick for example. The dude was a high school phenom. Unbelievable in almost every statistical category. He understood the offense and practiced good enough to win the job. But for some reason the results on the field didn't jive. After an injury the job was turned over to Troy. Troy had the gift. Again...unexplainable but real. He knew how to make a play. This is the same gift we all think Terrelle has but again, we don't have enough information to make an educated guess.

3. The results of Saturday night have brought us into familiar territory. Another quarterback controversy. The third in the Tressel era. I think if the power is given to Pryor he will undoubtedly make many of the same mistakes Todd is making right now. He is a freshman. He WILL make mistakes. The fact is I think many people are already assuming he will come in and be spot on all the time. It's not going to happen. I think the more important point is that if we are able to accept that Pryor is going to make many of the same mistakes as Todd, the real question is, who would we rather make these mistakes? The veteran or the freshman. In reality it makes more sense for the future of the program to go with Pryor. If you're going to make mistakes it is better to make them with the investment rather than what is already supposed to be paying out. We simply don't have time to wait for Todd to get back on course. We don't have the luxury of having him back next year. It isn't like we can work these kinks out and he'll be Peyton Manning next year. Terrelle still has the advantage of age.

4. My only concern with moving to Pryor is what the effect will be on Todd and the rest of the seniors. As other people have mentioned, senior captains being benched for the freshman doesn't happen that often. I heard Spielman say earlier that the players should be worried about doing there job, not with what the coaches decide to do with playing time. While I agree and hope that is their reaction, I am worried this won't be the case.

At the end of the day I feel bad for Todd. I think the wheels are in motion and it's only a matter of time. I trust Tressel knows what's best for the team better than any of us and I'm optimistic the seniors have enough class to embrace whoever gets the starting job. Finally no matter what the outcome, going back to the Zwick/Smith issue, I was impressed with how Zwick stuck around and supported the team with Troy at the helm. That was a classy thing to do and I'm confident Todd has just as much class should Pryor take over. I do respect Todd and I am grateful for the good things he's done for this team. Should Terrelle take over because of the negatives in Todd's game, I hope he will stick around and be an influence on Pryor. He has a lot to help Pryor with and the kid will need it.

I share that concern. And players have made it clear - even post USC - who they see as the leader.

But if you want leadership pay attention to Tressel's comments since the game. He has been as direct in laying responsibility for certain mistakes on Boeckman's shoulders as I have ever heard him with any player. This is very un-Tressel-like. Why? Perhaps to address the very issue you have identified.

If I'm a coach on a team playing us I blitz Pryor till he demonstrates he can get the ball down field. This sounds contradictory to what we saw Saturday but we know Boeckman is an accurate down field passer given time. And few teams will have USC's talent. TP has not done it, yet. I gamble more on getting to Pryor before he can make a read.

All that said, you won't see Boekman benched this season. I don't think Coach Tressel has that in him.

Which, with respect, is arguably why we lost against Texas in 05'.

Tressel was slow in getting a slipping QB off the field. I love Pryor, and I think he'll be a great starter..... next year. Keep giving im doses of the offense, we won't be seeing USC talent in the Big10 schedule (though I admit, I'm far more worried about Ill, Wisky and Penn State now) keep raising his confidence and giving him more and more of the play book.

Couple that with reps and once he's ready - you can unleash him on the world.

Now should we need to replace Todd as the starter, I believe Bauserman should be that man. He has the mobility to evade rushers, the presence of mind to either get up-field or throw the ball away - and the arm not to underthrow or lock onto any of our receivers.

I was extremely impressed with him in spring, and I think if he had the 1st team offense - we would see more of the same in the regular season.

I would be more encouraged to see him start then Pryor (for now) he's had more time in our system and understands our offense very well.

I have to admit, Mili was spot on in his call about Beockman - and it looks like he may become Bill Gates because of it.

The true leaders of this team are not Seniors.

You have some Seniors trying to be leaders, but they do not have that dynamic presence.

Agreed. Every time the camera panned the sideline Saturday night, it was TP hopping around screaming and getting his team up, while Todd just hung his head. I have no qualms with Todd but that's just the difference in players and it's the fire that we need on this team and that's just not him.

Not sure why you'd not have Pryor as the starter if you're going to bump Boeckman from the starting position and you feel that Pryor is the future of the team. If anything, have Pryor start and give Bauserman reps at #2...

Please tell me you'll be the DC for Troy this week.
