2008 tOSU QB discussion (official thread)

FWIW, if Boeckman gets replaced, for whatever reason, I would go with Bauserman, based on the spring game. I was more of a Henton guy last year, but he just seemed uncomfortable in the spring. Baus was cool as a cucumber. Rocket arm, too. I just can't see Pryor getting a start this year. If he blows it up, he could see almost equal playing time, but the switching of gears may be what makes him effective. Joe Paterno once said, "For every freshman on your starting lineup, you lose one game." (i'm paraphrasing) MoC proved him wrong in '02, but that would be the exception that proves the rule. (even though I just used it, I think that expression is a bunch of crap)

Far be it from me to go against Saint Joseph of State Park, but the games we almost lost in 02 were games when the freshman wasn't available. Ergo, you're both right and wrong.

As for Jesus, if you guys are going to crucify him on this site; I'm out of here. Think I'll go wash my hands.

Thats a nice read, entertaining. I agree with the TP paragraph, stating that people want TP used like Tebow, but Florida NEEDED Tebow to rush, TP is a luxury!

Exactly. The Buckeyes would have been contenders this year even if TP had not signed. Time will tell, but I think TP is going to be better than Tebow at all aspects of the QB position.

The always entertaining Tony Gerdeman posted a Buckeyes 20Q article on The O-Zone today. The first two questions about the QB situation sound suspiciously like whats been said here over the past week. Where's the shout out, Tony?

The-Ozone, Ohio State Football, Wrestling, Softball, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball and More

That is a fantastic piece IMO.

As for the first two questions sounding like what's been said on this board: I would say that this board is Exhibit A for the fact that many people have similar opinions about the most important questions regarding OSU football and the answers to those questions.

The only part of the article that I disagreed with is his opinion of Wisconsin. Some of you know about my personal animus for the stinkin' Badgers; but this isn't personal.

They have the 2nd best defensive backfield in the conference; but we have the best. They have the 2nd best linebacking corps in the conference, but we have the best. Their defensive line is a M*A*S*H unit; and ours is the best in the conference.

On the other side of the ball, they may have the 2nd best offensive line in the conference; then again they might not. It's hard to tell. Our OL is so far out in front of everyone else's that we can't even see #2 from where we are. Does anyone want to suggest that their receiving corps matches ours? Nobody? And the suggestion by some that P.J.Hill is in Beanie Wells' zip code is laugh-out-loud ridiculous. Their running back depth is good, but last time I checked the 'other' Wells, Saine and Boom weren't too shabby. And their QB situation isn't an Ann Arboresque train-wreck; but I didn't see anything in their spring game that worried me in the slightest.

With apologies to OregonBuckeye, I'm willing to concede Wisconsin the better tight-end. But he wasn't enough to make the difference last year. Since then, Wisconsin replaced their QB and their best DB. OSU didn't.

Even after all of this... Sure, Wisconsin has a shot. Heck, half of the Big Ten has a shot. Even Illinois has a shot. But I'm not buying that any of them is as big a threat as USC.

There is only one team in the Big Ten that is a match for USC this year. And that team gets a chance to prove it September 13th.

I agree that we have a better team than Bucky, but playing there at night is probably the worst atmosphere for any visiting team. USC is a good team, but I don't think the crowd will be much of a factor, considering the experience our boys have. Camp Randall at night is like Mardi Gras in Beirut (if they observed lent in Lebanon).

He went to the sidelines to clear his head and get his shoulder screwed on right after Whilhelm put him in the dirt. He wasn't the same, missing a wide open TE (Winston, I think) badly. Cruddup hit a critical 4th down pass while DOrsey was out.

A minor correction. On the play after Dorsey got nailed by Wilhelm, Crudup hit Quadtrine Hill for an 8-yard gain on 3rd and 11 from the 26. After a pair of timeouts, Dorsey returned to hit Winslow for 7 yards on 4th down, with a 5-yard facemask penalty tacked on to make ot 1st and goal at the 6. Interference on the next play made it 1st and goal at the 2. The second down play was then the one where Dorsey missed on open Winston in the right flat.
