2008 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Good list cheetah...I think that looks like the best PA list I have seen all year. I pretty much agreed with everything he had to say. Hale has the better ceiling but Sweat is the better player at this point. I can't believe rivals doesn't have Sweat in the top 100, especially with his offer list. His list is as impressive as anyone in the country...I think if Florida and some other southern schools were among his finalist and they actually stood a shot, he would be there.

I have said it many times, and I wil chalk this one up as me be totally wrong, and I am just going off a little film, and everyone else has probably seen him play, but Brandham does not strike me as being that domianant and I don't think he is anywhere near the best player in Florida...

He has the size and the build, but that only gets you so far, at some point you have to drive thru the ball carrier to take him down, and he would get run over in college, and ran around, and trampled by lineman as he doesnt read fast...

Bradham's video on Rivals doesn't do him justice, even J.C. Shurburtt said that. Check out his SunshinePreps video:
http://64.237.99.126/clips/2008FL0013.wmv

Yeah I will say that video is much better...He shows much more explosiveness and tackles with some authority, but even with that said I wouldnt put him as the number 1 player in Florida, and I would have some other lb's ahead of him, but I think after seeing that film, that he is a top 50 type player, and top 5 in Florida...

Even if that highlight film isn't as good as his sunshinepreps one, the other videos show his weaknesses and they are some pretty serious weak spots. He has to really work on his tackling and aggressive play before I would even consider him a top 50 player in the country. I honestly think both of Jordan Futch and Nigel Carr are much better LB's in Florida. They are super explosive and are Carr is going to be a very good one at F$U imo.

Really like PGH's list...they have shown me nothing but very solid info and rankings. You can tell those guys do their homework. For those that didn't see cheetah's post, the rankings look like this:

1. Terrelle Pryor
2. Shayne Hale
3. Andrew Sweat
4. Jonathan Baldwin
5. Lucas Nix
6. AJ Alexander
7. Jared Holley
8. Hubie Graham
9. Chris Burns
10. Christian Wilson

From there, of note:

11. Mike Yancich - Sweat's teammate
20. Cam Saddler - Hale's cousin
27. David Posluszny - finally someone ranking him more on his talent/potential versus his last name

They also go on to say that you could have made any pick between Hale/Sweat/Baldwin for the #2 player in the state...they were all that close.

But but Rivals has Nix as a 5 star...

The thing is they havent seen this guy half as many times as what these guys do...I find it stupid that they don't listen to in state gurus and people that have seen them more times than they have, it justs makes thier rankings look foolish...

They have a guy ranked as a 5 star can't miss and a guy that pa gurus have ahead of him, out of the top 100 and was out of the top 250 at one point, not sure if that is still the case...:!

There's an obvious Pitt bias in these rankings, Chris Dokish is a big Pitt homer. Chris Burns at 9? He didn't have any D1 offers, so when Pitt offered him, he jumped all over it. Mark Wedderburn is the top TE in the state and he is a PSU lock, probably why you don't see his name in the top 10.

If anyone honestly thinks that there are 26 better players than David Posluszny in PA, they're crazy.

If Poslusnzy was named David Smith you wouldn't be so high on him. The truth is, the kid is a good player but he is not his brother and his brother was not even a top 20 PA player when he came out of high school. And Wedderburn is just tall. He is nothing special either. In fact, Dokish said half the people he polled from across the state didn't even have him that high. He said he gave him the benefit of the doubt. I love those rankings because Dokish does not do them, so he can't be biased. He interviews people from all over the state, including some college coaches (who aren't supposed to do it, but I won't tell if nobody else does). And Joe Butler has been a scout for 30 years. I think he would know better than you, HBGCrusader, or any of us. If he says Burns is a top 10 player, I for one am not going to disagree with him.

Agree 100%...Scout seems to have Poz rated pretty accurately but Rivals has him vastly overrated in my opinion. They have him somewhere in the top 200 in the country, which I think is a bit of a stretch.

Ranking Burns in the top 10 still baffles me however.

Posluszny will have a chance to prove himself this year, considering his junior was cut short. He has a good offer list for barely playing any of his junior year, so that tells me that college coaches really like him, regardless of how much of film there is of him. Honestly, I don't care because everyone remembers what happened the last time a Posluszny was ranked low :wink2:

I never seen Burns play in person but he ran for over 1,300 yards with 25 TD's last season, and was all-state. He also was the MVP of the Pittsburgh Scout Combine where he ran a 4.44 and had a 36" vertical. He is just in the middle of nowhere between Pittsburgh and Erie, and few college coaches have seen him. In fact, there are articles in Pittsburgh papers that Pitt didn't even know about him until the coach of Burns sent the tape to Butler and Butler sent it to Pitt.

I really don't care about Burns or Pitt, but my point is that I would listen to the local experts over anybody because they not only see these kids, they know them personally and they know whose other opinions matter. Scout and Rivals I take with a grain of salt because it's a lot of hype and politics, but even saying that, I bet Burns winds up as a 4 star on both sites. Bob Lictenfels from Scout absolutely loves him and I wouldn't be surprised if he has Burns higher than 9th. In fact, he wrote about him: "Burns is one of, if not the premiere running back in the East region". But whatever, all I really care about is that we may get the top three players in PA this year and that would be amazing.

Free Rivals

6/4

By Crabtree...preview of the updated Rivals250. 13 players from Ohio will be on the list. The rankings will be up at noon tomorrow.

We already know these 8 are on the top 100 list:

#22 Kyle Rudolph
#31 Devoe Torrence
#39 Devier Posey
#50 Brandon Beachum
#53 Brandon Moore
#91 Jake Stoneburner
#94 Cordale Scott
#98 Mike Adams

Nathan Williams, Zebrie Sanders and Johnny Adams were on the original Rivals250 so I imagine they will be three of the other five. If I had to think like a Rivals person for second I would imagine the other two will come from DiLillo, Koger, Zordich, McCarthy or Hill.
