2008 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

McGuffie reminds me a lot of Devine from last year(for slightly different reasons). Both had ridiculous videos and put up amazing numbers(Devine against weak competition and McGuffie with a beastly O-line blocking for him). Both became internet phenoms. They both have simlar builds and running styles IMO. It'll be interesting to see how they both progress through college.

I think 22 and jwins are dead on...Sam's offer list is legit but there is a reason why the OSU coaches have not offered yet despite numerous armchair QBs clamoring about how "Sam needs an offer from OSU". It's the new age of recruiting...MySpace, YouTube, etc.

Couldn't agree more. It's not like the staff doesn't know this guy well. And they've offered loads of other young men this year. There's a reason why no offer has come yet. Not to say it won't come, but there's a reason...they're not "missing" something on him. Their evaluation is just different than some on these boards (at this point anyway).

A 62-14 record, a national title, two national title game appearances, four top-4 poll finishes, three BCS bowl wins, three Big Ten titles, numerous major individual award winners, and a boat-load of NFL draft picks show that JT knows talent when he sees it...

McGuffie hasn't been offered by OSU yet because A. He's not from Ohio, B. Devoe Torrence, C. Small Numbers, and D. he's a slightly smaller back.

I understand there is some hype to him, but you don't run for 3200 yards, post disgusting combine numbers, post incredible highlights, then become the #17 guy in Texas.

Furthermore, we don't know where the staff stands on McGuffie because he hasn't even camped here before. In a small class like this, I don't think Tressel is going to offer many prospects from OOS who they haven't seen in person. Especially when they already have a runningback signed, and would have to "figure out" a new position for someone like sam.

"slightly smaller"?

1 inch taller and 5 lbs. lighter than Antonio Pittman coming out of high school. almost 2 inches taller than Herron. 2 inches taller and 5 lbs. heavier than Mo Wells. I've seen several people refer to McGuffie as a "smaller back" which is just flat inaccurate. He's about the norm for OSU RB recruits over the last few years not named Chris Wells.

I know Shugarts is the # 2 OL in the state, which I could agree with (Good is a stud), but I don't think he is the # 13 player in the state. I'm just curious to know how many of those top 12 got offers from all over the country on September first of last year. J.B. is in the top 6 if he wasn't commited...I could see Calhoun, Aghareye(spellings wrong),Good, Washington, and possibly Hales ahead of him, but not practically every UT and OU commit from Texas.

Which of these kids are you going to move down?
The 8 Texas/OU commits?
#14 Gray? UF, Miami, ND, PSU offers
#15 Hall? ATM verbal, Bama, LSU, ND, OU offers
#16 Campbell? USC, UF, LSU, OU offers

From an offer standpoint, the only prospect who seems questionable is #7 Andrew Luck (QB).

I'm with wade, I'm not familiar enough with texas to determine where McGuffie should rank.

From a general standpoint, Texas is able to lose a half-dozen blue-chippers to other schools (namely OU), hard-sell all of them (losing another 5-8), and still land a top-5 class with virtually all TX recruits.

So without knowing the TX class well, I'm not sure if being #17 instate is an insult or a testament to the unreal depth Texas displays every year.

New Scout rankings are out today for their top 100...Adams, Brewster and Shugarts are all 5-stars. Devoe and Devier are also in the top 50 (likely to be 5-stars). Jenkins is a 5-star as well. Stoneburner and Sweat are in the top 75. Hale and Pryor are both in the top 10. More to follow...

Bob L. over at scout has said that posey and torrence will both get their 5th stars by the time the rankings are finished being adjusted.
