2008 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

My guess is they somehow forgot to add Middleton and Hale will be 5 stars when they add them. Could be wrong but both of those guys are at least top 50 players. Also, Yancich in front of Sweat? :!

#33 Josh Jenkins
#37 J.B. Shugarts
#42 Brendal Beal
#49 Devoe Torrence
#51 Devier Posey
#54 Andrew Sweat
#55 Kenny Tate
#58 Sam McGuffie
#62 Garrett Goebel
#68 Blake Ayles

Still surprised Jeff Fuller is not on that list...Cordale Scott and Koger are two Ohio kids I think probably could ahve been on that list.

Things like putting Yancich in front of Sweat is why I say these national sites have no idea what they are doing.

Further evidence that Rivals has just plain missed the boat this year...

I think they still might be changing their list b/c Bob said that Devoe and Devier are both going to be 5* and only their top 50 get 5*. Right now, Posey is at #51. Who knows? This type of thing (constant rearranging of the list for a couple of hours) usually happens when Scout puts out a new Top 100.

I'm no expert, but I saw Trinity at a 7 on 7 tournament on Friday and Mike Yanich is impressive physically and athletically. Probably slightly better in both categories than Sweat, although he is pretty big as well. But I do realize it was just a 7 on 7 scrimmage, so I really don't know who is better in full football gear.

Most of the HS coaches in attendance were more impressed with Yancich than Sweat.

I got to meet Sweat and he was extremely nice and very talkative. The coaches said Yancich was as well. I kinda hope we offer Yancich.

From reading some things from people involved with Western PA football, the consensus seems to be that Sweat is easily the better football player, while Yannich is probably the better athlete. I heard that some of Yannich's weight lifting totals are a little inflated. He's obviously a combine beast, but I think this is one you wait to get some senior tape on first.

There's an obvious Pitt bias in these rankings, Chris Dokish is a big Pitt homer. Chris Burns at 9? He didn't have any D1 offers, so when Pitt offered him, he jumped all over it. Mark Wedderburn is the top TE in the state and he is a PSU lock, probably why you don't see his name in the top 10.

If anyone honestly thinks that there are 26 better players than David Posluszny in PA, they're crazy.

Scout now has Burns the 6th best player in PA and 86th in the entire country.

cheetah summed up what the BPRT has heard...Yancich, a great athlete in his own right, may put up better numbers at the combines, but Sweat has the instincts and the intangibles to be a better overall LB at the next level.

I think Bob jumped the gun...Posey will likely be just outside the list of 5-stars. My last post seems to be the up-to-date revised rankings.
