2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Yeah, and Auburn has that signature 3-2 win. That's gotta count for a lot.

We were losing to OU in the fourth quarter.. some would say that we were lucky to win that game..

Aside from Florida, I agree with the rankings. And I really don't have a HUGE problem with Florida being there. We've beaten up on Minnesota and YSU, almost lost against OU, and got dominated against USC. We kind of deserve this.. IMO.

The team that played OU and USC had a different QB starting and playing almost all of the game. The team that played OU also had the best player on the team on the sidelines. No offenes to Boeckman and Harron, but the two of them in the backfield is not even close to as scary good as Pryor/Wells. It makes the whole offense diferent.

But i'm fine with being ranked lower. Now we can move up, and be underdogs in some games. If we are ranked 14th, beat Michigan, and win the Rose Bowl, then that would be an awesome feeling. Nobody remembers what the Rose Bowl champ was ranked...just that they were Rose Bowl champ.

I know we're a different team, but just because we changed our team since then doesn't mean that the loss and bad game against OU don't count. We're Ohio State. Pollsters don't care about anything other than final scores and who we are.

It's an unfortunate reality that is reflected in this weeks polls.

SEC and USC are better than everyone.

FLA lost to an inferior oponent in the Swamp = 8 spots drop (4 to 12)
Wisc lost to an inferior oponent on the road = 9 spots drop (9 to 18)

USC lost convincingly to an unranked team = 8 spots drop (1 to 9)
ILL lost convincingly to a team ranked 10 places higher = 11 spots drop (22 to 33)

GA lost convincingly to by a team ranked 4 places lower than them in Athens= 8 spots drop (3 to 11)
OSU lost convincingly by a team ranked 4 places higher than them on 3 timezones away on the road = 8 spots drop (5 to 13)

Auburn won a game that they shouldn't have by 2 points at home = 2 spots jump (15 to 13)
OSU won a game by 12 pts at home = 2 spots drop (3 to 5)

This is why SEC and USC are better than everyone else. I give you facts.

I agree. USC SHOULD be ahead of us, but barely. They lost to an UNRANKED opponent. Florida is bull. And Georgia...just like the previous poster said, got creamed and there is no reason they should be ahead of us. NO REASON.

I placed USC and Georgia ahead of tOSU this week, and Florida behind.

USC drilled tOSU. As long as they only have 1 loss, they stay ahead in my book.

Florida lost at home to a team that had 9 straight conference losses, so that's the worst loss of the bunch. Their win at Tennessee doesn't mean much since Tennessee is 1-3 and lost to UCLA.

Georgia's home loss to 'Bama (now #2) was about the same size negative to me as the tOSU loss at USC. But they also beat Arizona State on the road, and tOSU doesn't yet have a road win.

But those spots really don't matter much. If any of those teams end their season with 1 loss, they'll deserve to be ahead of tOSU. That would include an SEC CCG win for either Georgia or Florida. And if they lose again, and tOSU wins out, they'll all get passed by tOSU.

Scout.com: Tues. Question - Where Should (__) Be Ranked?

Penn State -- I would make Penn State No. 7 right now. In addition to how I spelled things out for Alabama, I think Texas and Texas Tech deserve to be ranked higher than the Nittany Lions. I know JoePa bashing has gone out of fashion, but I just think Mike Leach's Red Raiders would be more prepared for a head-to-head meeting than Penn State. Texas Tech would whip them big in Lubbock and would be competitive for 60 minutes in Happy Valley.

I'm glad this guy isn't a regular contributor. He carries a grudge against the Big-10. Texas Tech whipping Penn St. big is a fucking joke. Tech hasn't done jack this year. They've played crap opponents and haven't even looked good. Penn St. would put up 60+ on them in Happy Valley.

I don't even think South Florida should be ranked after losing at home to an unranked Pittsburgh team. I also think that they are giving too much credit to Vanderbilt just because they are still unbeaten and Auburn was overrated. I have a very difficult time with those teams west of the Rockies. Utah barely squeaked by Michigan and Illinois destroyed Michigan so where is that team from Champaign.

It's going to be funny when Tech drops 2 out of 3 to Oklahoma, Texas and Okie State.....and the Kansas game could be very interesting too....

Auburn still ranked? Seriously? They have no idea how to score.

We're outta the National title hunt folks. These pollsters just are not gonna move us up enough.

Auburn still ranked is a joke.

I wouldn't count us completely out yet, though, provided we win out and get decidedly more impressive each week...especially on defense, because I believe we will on offense. I agree, no pollster is going to give us any breaks this year whatsoever, but, at the same time, I don't think anybody goes undefeated, even Oklahoma, speaking of which, the part that constantly nags me about them is that while we were getting so called 'torched' in the last 2 NC's, OK was getting embarrassed in BCS games by considerably lesser opponents, (Boise State and West Virginia), yet no talking heads ever seem to remember or harbor any OK hate.

Anyway, you gotta figure the Big12 and SEC are going to start knocking each other off starting next week. If we're still rolling when we entertain Penn State, and then bump them off in a big way...who knows.
