2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Barely beating Tennessee > barely beating OU.

We don't really have a signature anything this year. Auburn just about took out LSU. I don't really have a problem with the rankings. I understand what they see. They see us as an inconsistent, struggling team, and see Auburn as the same. They're ahead of us because they looked better in the spotlight.

If we win the Big 10, we'll be ahead of them. So it doesn't even matter. :wink2:

I don't understand how Auburn jumped us? They barely beat a 1-2 team (now 1-3) @ home.

Until we win a big time game out of conference, we will continue to be the punching bag of college football. Right now, the pollsters are looking for any reason they can find not to rank us high.

Not saying that I disagree with your point--I have seen nobody mention the fact that in our only loss, we were without our best player. That's the difference to me--Auburn struggled with a 1-3 Tennessee team and Auburn was at full strength, Florida lost to Ole Miss at home at full strength, and Georgia got crushed at home at full strength. I think there are good arguments that we should be ranked ahead of all of those teams, given that we lost without our best player against a top 5 team on the road. But like I said, we won't get the benefit of the doubt.

"Blow Out" would have been 45-6. 34-21 is a different ballgame. We, as fans, know the score doesn't really indicate how badly we beat them. Voters don't know that however.

If we lit the Gophers up on the scoreboard, we would be ahead of Auburn.

......and I think USC should have tumbled further down the basement steps!!!
A number 1 team loses to a non ranked team,come on!!!!!!!:mad1:

Yeah...now THAT, I agree with. We lose to #1 and fall way down. USC loses to a nobody and falls...oh forget about it. These polls are just useless.

How are they all still ahead of us in the polls? That don't seem right to me...

Who was the last actually good team we beat? I'm not gonna worry about a national title. Fortunately, we are in the Big 10. If we take care of business in our conference we get to go to the Rose Bowl.

USC beat us and a conference loss in the SEC still counts as a win.

I agree that UGA should be above us, as they lost to a team that is a contender in the SEC! USC beat us down, and will be above us until they lose again. UF however should not be above us. The difference between us is that when we play close games against inferior opponents....we WIN!!

I've got no problem with it. Until I see this defense play good against a decent team I'll reserve judgement. The d-line and lb play have been below average at best.

Somethings wrong when your leading tackle only has one tfl in 5 games.

Georgia was down just as bad, but actually fought back to make it somewhat respectable.

I have two problems with that, though. First, we were without our best offensive player. Moreno, Stafford, etc. all played the entire game for Georgia. Second, Georgia played at home, and we played on the opposite coast.

In short, it was a best case scenario for Georgia leading up to the game, and they got their shirts handed to them. For us, it was a worst case scenario and we got our shirts handed to us.

I agree. USC SHOULD be ahead of us, but barely. They lost to an UNRANKED opponent. Florida is bull. And Georgia...just like the previous poster said, got creamed and there is no reason they should be ahead of us. NO REASON. I expected us to be 11 at the very least. For every team that loses they drop them down to next to nothing. But, if they are a media favorite, it doesn't matter. It's crap and it really pisses me off.

Look guys, I'm not asking for a NC here, I'm asking to move up fairly and rightly. If teams lose or play badly, they should move down. If teams win and convincingly, they should move up. It's not rocket science.
