2008 Heisman Trophy Discussion

I'm just going on what Rivals has listed for Wells and Foster - it's old info, but it should be 'valid' and not hand timed, for whatever that's worth. I actually see Wells as a bigger, stronger version of Adrian Peterson (which, unfortunately, includes the injury issues).
I think Peterson has a couple steps on Wells, but they both have enough speed to take it the distance. As far as the injuries go, Beanie played in every game last season. I don't believe Peterson did that once in his college career. Sure, Beanie was knicked up, but he still peaked in the last game of the regular season, so I don't really see the two situations as comparable.

Gotcha'. Just saying Beanie's speed is downright unfair for someone that big. He is going to put up an all-timer of a performance at the NFL combine.

Oh no doubt, for his size it's criminal how fast he is. He's almost (almost) AJ Hawk's size, and he's got at least 0.1s on Hawk in the 40. That's pretty ridiculous for a guy that size.

The injury issues are, in my mind, unrelated to the toughness issues. Both Beanie and AP have been injured a lot. AP wasn't able to play through his injuries (admittedly, though, a broken collar bone is mildly harder to play through than a bum ankle or wrist), whereas Beanie was. You could argue that Beanie is tougher than AP...I wouldn't, but you could make that argument. I do, however, think it's inarguable that Beanie and AP both have suffered...an inordinate number of injuries, between them.

I'm not questioning AP's toughness. Moreso his brittleness.

Brittlness being a physical limitation and toughness being more mental.

Ol' Lou at ESPN is predicting Beanie for the Heisman, and Oklahoma vs. OSU in the NC game, with OSU winning. I hope for all your sakes hes right, and this isn't like the pep talk curse. Then again, he did his pep talk for Navy last year in the ND/Navy game, and Navy came out on top

Well, being the Navy, they weren't bothered by all the water spewing onto the floor during his speech.

I like this guy as the "early leader" for the Heisman:

jeremy-maclin.jpg

Jeremy Maclin (above) and Chase Daniels lead a Missouri offense that is averaging 53.8 points through four games.
AP

Chase Daniel, Missouri, QB, Sr.
Last week: 36-of-43 passing, 439 yards, 2 TDs; 4 rushes, 16 yards in a 42-21 victory against Buffalo.
Season: 101-of-133 passing, 1,412 yards, 12 TDs, 1 INT; 14 rushes, 74 yards.
Heisman-o-meter: Every week Daniel seems to do something to top himself. This time he set a career high with 439 passing yards and broke a Big 12 record with 20 straight completions. "He brings his A-game every time he plays," Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said afterward. And now Daniel, after a bye week, will enter the most important stretch of his Heisman campaign (and of the Tigers' season) with games at Nebraska, against Oklahoma State, at Texas and against Colorado.
