OSU seniors keep youngsters in line
Having twice missed title, they allow no slacking off in focus, preparation

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In the classroom that is the Ohio State football practice field, nobody is getting away with chewing gum or shooting spitballs. Normally, with only nine coaches to oversee 105 players, some amount of goofing around might go undetected. But this year, the staff was bolstered by 25 student teachers -- otherwise known as seniors -- who after losing two straight national title games were in no mood for high jinks.
"We're going to put (underclassmen) in their place and let them know we're here for one reason, and one reason only," said defensive tackle Nader Abdallah, one of the seniors. "We're not letting them get away with anything. If you see somebody slacking, we tell them (to quit), because we have one goal in mind, and that's a national championship, and we're not going to get it if you're slacking."
To some extent, seniors have always been this way. It's their last chance, so of course the urgency will drive them to snuff out shirkers.

(I really think the Ukraine would have given us the nod against LSU last season.)
Fantasy Fred (Dreamville, GA): Okay....dreamtime, Bruce. Take a team made up of current OSu and USC players and put them in a game against current Florida and Georgia players....who wins? We think that not even USC could carry the dead Buckeye weight! Thoughts.
Bruce Feldman: That's a great question. The non SEC team would be better on D, although I think OSU would contribute most of the offensive players.
Mitch (Columbus): Is Ohio State quick enough to play with the SEC this year?
Ted Miller: Yes. My feeling is this is the year Ohio State breaks through (as if they've got anything to prove)... but they've got to take care of business against USC.
Tim (Athens): Fun Fact: Big Ten is 7-7 vs the SEC the last 5 years, 14-13 over the last 10. All but 1(06 NC game)of those were bowl games played in SEC states.
Ted Miller: that is a fun fact.

Buckeye Experience Valuable Asset in 2008
By John Porentas
The very newest rendition of Ohio State football debuts on Saturday when the Buckeyes open the 2008 season by hosting Youngstown State. What marks this newest edition of OSU football most is its age and experience.
A grand total of 47 members of the Buckeye squad are either juniors or seniors, some of them super-seniors like quarterback Todd Boeckman who has been on campus long enough to be nearly eligible for social security benefits.
As is true every year, the Buckeye roster is dotted with talented young players who are just cutting their college football teeth, but the success or failure of this Buckeye team will be largely determined by players who have been on campus for at least four years. Head Coach Jim Tressel talks about the sense of urgency that characterizes the play of seniors and fosters that attitude whenever he can.

I liked Feldman's response though. How the hell do you even pick, and do you run a 3-4?
D-Line: Clay Matthews, Fili Moala, Lawrence Wilson.
LBs: Freeman, Laurinaitis, Maualuga, Cushing.
DBs: Jenkins, Washington, Ellison, Mays.
Yeah. Georgia and Florida would just move the ball up and down the field all day against that.
