2008 Football Rumblings

I mentioned this in Pryor's thread but I got a couple updates from practice, granted they aren't surprising: Beanie is looking unstoppable and Terrelle is looking really good early on. Only 7 on 7's so far and we all know he is in his element with pads on, so it's encouraging to know he is doing well throwing the ball without the pads on. The hype around campus on TP is apparently staggering...again, not surprising. After hearing the reports and talking some football, I am even more stoked for kickoff than ever :osu:

FB is not as important as LB. You don't move your third best LB to FB. IMO JT was trying to find a place where this kid could play. Terry wasn't making a sacrifice for the team - he was being given an opportunity. And it sounds like he decided to give it a pass.

I could be all wet - but I don't look to see Terry's name near the top of the "minutes played" list this season.

Totally agree. He was given the opportunity to be #1 on the depth chart at FB but just because he seemed not to like being at that position he did not give 100%. Now he will be down the depth chart at LB and probably won't see much playing time at all except maybe for special teams but if he was "called out" he might that even see special-teams play.

This is strictly second hand information, so take it FWIW. Anyhow, here is the scuttlebutt that I got:

Boeckman has not exactly looked stellar in practice and has yet to throw a TD in practice. Also, I heard that Pryor was seeing a significant number of snaps with the first team and is showing ability and progress that is impressing the hell out of a lot of people. Including the ability to make plays with his feet and his arm. Specifically, I was told that Terrelle exhibits good ability to throw while on the run.

This info comes to me via a person I am close to and who I know to have connections on the team.

Is it wrong of me to smile at this statement?

Another tidbit my source told me was that the receivers are having great difficulty with the secondary coverage. According to the source, Washington and Jenkins are both playing lock-down coverage. The source also said that some sort of martial arts person has been brought in to help the receivers gain better position in tight coverage. Once again, TIFWIW.

My own speculation:
The impression I get from this is that it is not a problem with the receivers, but that the CBs are playing extremely well. With respect to my previous post, this could explain why Todd may not look so impressive in practice.

Of course the WR's had trouble with LSU's CB's in the NC game last year. Perhaps they have trouble with good corners.

Bruce Hooley on 1460 here in Columbus reported the opposite of what is being reported to WyoBuckeye.

Hooley said on Thursday or Friday that the reports he was getting out of camp on Terrelle were "less than stellar" to use his words. He even went so far as to ask the question "do you think that TP could end up never playing a down as a QB?" Now, this was in keeping with their "BOLD STATEMENT" segment of the show, so who knows?
